Brief Reflection: We are called to serve Christ, for he is the Holy One of God. Jesus calls his disciples to follow him, knowing some will abandon and betray him. Christ is gathering together a new people – committed to serving the Lord alone, nourished by the Bread of Life, and faithful and spotless like a bride.

Salem Area Catholic Schools launch commu-nity campaign to tell their story:

Salem Area Catholic Schools have come together to promote Catholic education in the region with their new "It's Closer Than You Think" community campaign. The joint effort be-

tween the five local Catholic schools is designed to raise awareness for the programs and outcomes available to stu-

dents and families in the Salem area. SACS offers a unique learning experience by focusing on

educating the whole child, both in mind and spirit. The Cath-olic faith is central to the student experience and culture. Ser-vice projects are built into the curriculum at each grade level,

teaching students the Gospel message of serving others. Schools also offer a variety of programs and activities that

match – and in many cases exceed – those in public schools. They also boast a 99 percent high school graduation rate,

with more than 95 percent of graduates going on to college. You can learn more about what SACS have to offer our local

students and families by visiting SalemAreaCatho-licSchools.com.

Be on the look out for more information to come.

Almighty Lord God, You keep on giving abun-dance to men in the dew of heaven, and food out of the richness of the soil. We give thanks to Your most gracious majesty for the fruits of the field which we have gathered. We beg of You, in Your mercy, to bless our harvest, which we have received from Your generosity. Preserve it, and keep it from all harm. Grant, too, that all those whose desires You have filled with these good things may be happy in Your protec-tion. May they praise Your mercies forever, and make use of the good things that do not last in such a way that they may not lose those goods that are everlasting, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Word from Fr. James…

I want to begin by saying thank you to everyone that came to the 10 am Mass at Sacred Heart where Fr. James Cole-man came from St. Luke to install me officially as the pas-tor of this parish. It was great to see so many of you there and to see so many of you at the picnic. It was a truly wonderful event, I got to meet some more people and just enjoy a wonderful afternoon. I am also grateful to the people that came and supported me from St. Francis. Certainly, I cannot name everyone by name because I would get in trouble, but I want to thank the Sacred Heart – St. Louis Pastoral Council for their assistance in putting on the picnic and thank you to everyone that made it a great day!! You all are truly a great group of people. Keep your eyes open for next year’s picnic date. Soon and very soon we are going to be going full swing with our fall activities. School is going to be starting soon, many of our parish programs are going to be starting up . . . two quick things, if you know someone that is in-terested in joining the Catholic Church, or maybe you are an adult that has not received confirmation, or just inter-ested in learning more about the faith, check out the bulle-tin about our upcoming RCIA classes. Secondly, our Parish School, Sacred Heart, is currently enrolling all grades. Please stop by the school office for more information. We have space in pre-school through eighth grade. I want to again just thank all of you for the warm welcome that I have received here. I am grateful beyond words. I am certainly feeling at home and looking forward for eve-rything to be starting up again. Have a blessed week!

Fr. James
