Internal/External Posting Program Manager

Thunder Bay, Ontario The Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) is currently accepting applications for the position of Program Manager in Thunder Bay. The Program Manager is responsible for the management of programs and staff, and applying to relevant request for proposals. QUALIFICATIONS • A post-secondary diploma and/or degree in Business, Indigenous Learning or Social

Science with a minimum of five (5) year’s experience in a management role. • Demonstrated administrative management with the ability to supervise. • Excellent organizational and communication skills with demonstrated self-confidence

and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently within strict deadlines.

• Knowledge of Not-for-Profit organization program delivery. • Ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively. • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision. • Capacity to solve problems and to see different perspectives. • Ability to network with other community agencies, services and organizations. • Demonstrated knowledge in preparing and writing proposals. • Working knowledge of computers, specifically Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010, Excel

and Outlook. • Experience with budgets, overseeing and development of them • Demonstrated experience providing services to Aboriginal families and/or

communities. • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle with valid insurance and a safe driving

record. • Ability to travel. • Ability to speak an Aboriginal Language is considered an asset. • A cleared Criminal Reference check is a condition of the employment offer. RESPONSIBILITIES • Implementation, management and coordination of all ONWA programs, including

program planning, establishing and maintaining a linkage with Aboriginal organizations and community partners.

• Oversee, evaluate, and manage assigned ONWA programs and related staff members to ensure effective and efficient program delivery.

• In conjunction with the Program Director, plan, administer and control all program budgets for contracts.

• Develop, implement and evaluate communications strategies for programs in order to inform clients, employees and the general public of initiatives and services provided by the Association.

• Conduct research to identify any potential need of services as it may relate to Aboriginal women.

• Deliver strategic planning sessions with all ONWA programs for effective service delivery.

• Prepare and oversee the preparation of program reports, briefing notes and presentations.

• Represent the Ontario Native Women's Association for the purpose of government liaison, media relations and service delivery.

• Participate in policy development by overseeing the preparation of reports and briefs in relation to Aboriginal Women’s Issues.

• Good knowledge of Aboriginal culture and traditions. Request for Tenders Anemki Mino Ziizibaakwad is currently seeking tenders for the construction of a sugar shack in the FWFN sugar bush. The sugar bush operation is a community-based project, focused on providing educational and cultural opportunities for those who belong with FWFN. As such, we seek tenders from construction professionals willing to lead a team of volunteers, with the purpose of teaching construction skills to those interested. Since our budget is limited, we can hire only a single person to lead this construction project. In your tender request, please clearly describe how you would lead a team of volunteers in this project. We expect the site to require a cement foundation, and for the shack structure to be conducive to boiling maple syrup. Please include a list of cost quotes for these elements. Position Title: Chief Executive Officer – 5 year Contract Position Description: Under the direction of the FWFN Band Council, plans, organizes,

directs and controls, the development and implementation of all FWFN programs, projects and services to ensure the effective and efficient delivery and operation.

Major Responsibilities: • Responsible for the overall supervision of all administrative staff and Project

Administrators, with direct supervision provided to the Senior Managers. • Directs and advises the Senior Managers delivering services and programs to the

Membership, clientele and general public. • Coordinates the evaluations of all Band staff via Senior Managers and performs direct

evaluations of those staff under the CEO supervision. • Establishes objectives for the departments and formulates policies and programs. • Attends all Council meetings and provides information and resources for Band meetings

and Band Council members. • Supervises the preparation of the agendas, minutes and by-laws for Band Council,

Committee and Community meetings. • Prepares Band Council resolutions, contribution arrangements and other funding proposals

to access funds for priorities as determined by the Band Council. • Implements the decisions of the FWFN Band Council. • Participates in the coordination of the annual audit of the FWFN financial records, reviews

audit with Council, follows-up with recommendations and implements financial policies and procedures.

• Organizes funds to implement policies and programs; establishes financial and administrative controls and overall personnel planning.

• Ensures the security of all FWFN assets. • Ensures that all departments have their annual budgets prepared and submitted prior to

the beginning of the fiscal year. • Maintains effective communication and liaisons with all levels of government and various

organizations. • Represents FWFN for the purpose of Government liaison and media relations. • Assist FWFN Chief and Council in developing the long-term vision and strategic plan of

FWFN and facilitate the implementation of that plan. • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by FWFN. Reporting Responsibilities: • Submits reports and briefs on all Department activities, financial and administrative

matters to the FWFN Council and other agencies. Conditions of Employment:

Position Title: Administrative Support Worker Permanent Position Position Description: The Administrative Support Worker will be required to perform

an array of administrative duties including secretarial and receptionist duties. Additional responsibilities include providing administrative support to the Directors, taking minutes during meetings and aiding in scheduling. This position will also primarily be responsible for maintaining, updating and verifying the First Nation Register and Band List for Fort William First Nation.

Major Responsibilities: • Provide administrative and organizational support to the Directors and senior

management team • Word processing, presentation development, briefing notes, speaking notes, spreadsheet

building, telephone communications and screening, calendar management, travel arrangements, expense reports and filing system management

• Coordinate all external communications with tact and diplomacy • Synchronize multiple projects • Assist individuals through the application process for Indian Status and will participate in

the determination of an individual's eligibility for Indian Status. • Communicates decisions made by the Registrar and issues Status Cards to those that are

deemed eligible. • Other duties as required Qualifications: • Minimum of 5 years' experience in administrative or communications' experience • Bachelor's degree desirable • Subject to drug testing. Change Your Life Through Learning

Funded by the Ontario Government

Operator-in-Training Preparation Program10 Week Program

Program Information Currently there is a demand in northwestern Ontario for certified Water/Wastewater Operators. The process for training water/wastewater operators consists of in-class and hands-on training. The program aims to provide interested individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 with the knowledge and skills to successfully complete the Operator-in-Training Certification exam.

Program Overview The proposed youth training-to-employment project for the water/wastewater industry will provide youth with a unique, in-demand set of skills and knowledge for employment.

The skills learned in this program will assist graduates to attain employment in a wide range of settings.

Modules include:

• Academic Preparation

• Safety Certifications

• Operator-in-Training (OIT) Preparation

• Employability Skills

Admission Requirements• All potential students must have a minimum of Grade 12

and complete a Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES).

• The project will target youth aged 18–29.

• All potential students must fill out the appropriate application forms and assessments prior to training.

Course Information This course will run daily from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday for 10 weeks.

Evaluation Appropriate testing will be administered throughout the program. The instructor will provide an opportunity for improvement based on this feedback. Arrangements will be made for all eligible students to write the OIT exam.

Credentials At the successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Confederation College “Recognition of Achievement” credential. Students successfully completing the OIT exam will receive the Operator-in-Training Certification through the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO) through the Ministry of the Environment.

HYDRO ONE PROVINCIAL LINES/

POWER WORKERS’ UNION HIRING HALL APPRENTICESHIP

The Hydro One/Power Workers’ Union (PWU) Joint Lines Training Committee (JLTC) is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of the Lineperson Apprenticeship Training Program as provided in Appendix "A" between Hydro One and the PWU. The JLTC currently requires Lineperson Apprentices to be hired at the start of 2016. The apprentices will be hired in Kleinburg and remain there for approximately three weeks after which they will be transferred throughout the province. The jointly organized program is an 8,000-hour apprenticeship that, when successfully concluded, provides Power Line Technician status. Applicants require their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) including Grade 12 Mathematics and English to qualify for the position. All applicants must apply through the electronic application system available through links on Hydro One (www.HydroOne.com), the Power Workers’ Union (www.pwu.ca) or the Trade Up for Success (www.tradeup.ca) websites. Only applications received prior to September 30, 2015 will be considered for positions available in 2016.

Christ tells them they have substituted their own law for the law of God, with the result that their worship of God has become mere lip-service.
