Toowong Catholic Parish.

We acknowledge the Elders, past and

this land.

The Senility Prayer

(with apologies to Reinhold Niebuhr)

God, grant me

the Senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,

the Good Fortune to run into the ones I do,

and the Eyesight to tell the difference.

Some Reflections On Aging

Now that I am older, here’s what I have discovered:

I started out with nothing …. I still have most of it.

My wild oats have turned to prunes and All Bran.

I finally got my head together; Now my body is falling apart.

Funny, I don’t remember being absent-minded ….

All reports are in: Life is now officially unfair.

If all is not lost, where is it?

It is easier to get older, than it is to get wiser.

Some days you’re the dog; some days you’re the fire hydrant.

I wish the buck stopped here - I could use a few.

Kids in the back seat cause accidents; Accidents in the back seat cause kids.

It’s hard to make a comeback when you haven’t been anywhere.

The only time the world beats a path to your door is when you’re in the bathroom.

If God wanted me to touch my toes, He would have put them on my knees.

When you’re finally holding all the cards, why does everyone else decide to play chess?

It’s not hard to meet expenses …. They’re everywhere!

TASK FORCE UPDATE.

*Thank you! For the past two week-ends, the parish has celebrated First Communion with a large group of children and their families. To ensure this special occasion was memora-ble for the children and their families, the Sacrament was received with the local parish community. The Task Force is very grateful to Fr Wrex and Allison King, Pastoral Associate for the preparation of the candidates & the celebration of First Eucharist at 9 Masses over 2 weekends. We also thank Anthony Young, Music Director and the team of musicians and singers for ensuring the music at each Mass enabled full participation in the liturgy.

The support of staff from St Ignatius School who assisted with the Masses is also gratefully acknowledged. Finally, thank you to everyone in the parish who so willingly accommodated the families by attending Mass at times to ensure we could include everyone who wanted to be in attendance. The parish has demonstrated great capacity for adaption in these changeable times. The parish has received feedback that the families felt welcomed and included by their experience of the Sacramental Program. We continue to consider how we are best able to provide moments of evangelisation for those we meet.

*Women’s Night of Spirituality 2020. The recording of the Women’s Night of Spirituality was posted on the parish website and YouTube channel on Tuesday 28 July. Since then, there have been over 1000 people view the recording. In addition, there has been very positive feedback received by various people involved with the event. The WNS team had planned to take a different approach with the event in 2020, COVID-19 propelled the changes to make it into a recorded event and for that we are grateful – every cloud has a silver lining! Whether you are male or female, young or old, you are encouraged to view the recording as there is something in it for everyone. If you have viewed it, please pass the link onto a friend (YouTube recording via Parish website www.stignatiustoowong.org.au) – we know there are many out there who would appreciate the many good messages delivered by Sr Angela Mary Doyle RSM AO as she tells her story with the music of Dr Sr Maeve Heaney VDMF providing heavenly accompaniment.

* Compliance Matters. We are grateful to all those who volunteer their time and skills to our parish. Earlier this year we received nominations from many parishioners who volunteered for a range of ministries. Most people who volunteered have been contacted to allow their names to be provided to ministry coordinators. If you have not been contacted, please let the Parish Office know. To be a volunteer requires completion of compliance documents, otherwise under the Archdiocesan Policy, the parish cannot allow you to undertake a role within the parish. If you have not completed your documentation, you are encouraged to do so as asap. The deadline for the introduction of the government’s new “No card, No start” (Blue Card) is 31 August (please refer back to the info. provided by Kaylene Perissinotto, Local Safeguarding Rep., appearing on back page of last 2 weekend’s newsletters).
