WHAT’S IN A NAME? CSG FOOD SOLUTIONS August Edition UKWEZA IS IN THE PROCESS OF A NAME CHANGE! In 1993 Ukweza was registered as Unique Catering Services (Pty) Ltd and operated successfully under that name for 16 Years. With a change in shareholding in 2009 it was decided to change the Company name to Ukweza due to registration and trade mark limitations on the name Unique. There was a desire for a more local and ethnic name, and as a result a language Professor at the University of KZN was consulted and the name Ukweza was chosen based on a Xhosa phrase - “To strive or achieve”. Many a debate has since been held about the authenticity of the Professor’s interpretation. Later with the acquisition of all the shares from minority shareholders in Ukweza by the CSG Group in October 2015 plans were put in place to build a multi-facetted Services Company offering a basket of outsourced services to the market place. In order for the Group to create brand awareness it was decided to start moving our basket of services and numerous subsidiary names under one umbrella. We are therefore proud to introduce CSG Food Solutions as the catering and food related specialists in the CSG Group. The same great team, same commitment to service excellence just another name! UKWEZA IS IN THE PROCESS OF A NAME CHANGE!

MAKING IT WORK IN STELLENBOSCH!

Article by: Joanne Rowan, Commercial Division Manager

We are very excited to have been awarded the Catering Contract for 6 of the Hostels at Stellenbosch University until the end of 2023.

The Operations Team has been working tirelessly to ensure that the first meals could be served on Sunday 22 July to a very excited crowd. This is also the first new contract under the CSG Food Solutions umbrella.

The six Hostels – Minerva, Lydia, Nerina, Harmonie, Monica & Sonop have a total of 1287 students, eagerly awaiting new and exciting offerings from CSG Foods. Furthermore, students from other Hostels on campus also have the option of utilising our dining halls for their meals, which will give us a real opportunity to prove why we are the best in the business!

We wish Tanya and her team all the best of luck to keep the flag flying high!

WHAT’S COOKINGArticle by: Arno Kruger, Executive Chef

We have promptly reached the middle of the year, and a lot of hard work, sweat and tears have contributed to our success thus far.

Let’s pay tribute to all our Chefs & Cooks!

Here’s to all the early mornings, late nights, and long weekend shifts. Here’s to every knick, scar and burnt finger. Here’s to every oil splatter on our jackets and every stain on our aprons. But most of all, here’s to every plate of food, cooked with pride!

Happy Cooking!!!

We launched a Ward Angel Training Program to all our valued ward hostesses at the Mediclinics’ The program is based on a “We Care” principle- where we emphasize how important Patient care is and the role that the Ward Hostesses play in a Patients care.

Irene Slabbert (Business Development Manager) and Marietjie Swanepoel (HR and Training Manager) launched the program with a road trip. The first phase Training was done where each Angel received their “Blue Wing” Certificates. The Angels now have the opportunity to work towards their Silver and Golden wings.

WHAT’S COOKING

COFFEE APPRECIATIONArticle by: Grace Ntuli, Procurement Assistant

Ciro Full Service Beverage Co. hosted a coffee appreciation day early this month, we had the pleasure of attending the event. We were honoured enough to be their guests for the day. The aim of the event was to help us understand the common coffee notes. We learned about the history and the origins of coffee, roasting process, the art of coffee tasting and how to identify good coffee beans. We were taught to taste through aroma, texture as well as various flavours such as fruits, nuts and chocolate to help us understand the different taste of coffee beans. We watched a coffee roasting demonstration and then each one of us had an opportunity to mix and brew our own coffee.

In summary the event was an informative, fun, enjoyable and interactive experience. By the end of the day we were overdosed with coffee and the next day when we woke up, all we wished for was another cup of coffee.

Attendees: Arno Kruger, Alvine Hunter, Estelle Engelbrecht, Grace Ntuli, Marietjie Swanepoel and Irene Slabbert.

DCS SKILLS CERTIFICATIONArticle by: Mr Kau, Deputy Director

Ukweza Holdings through their training programme inducted 14 offenders in a four hour INDUCTION program. Another group of 11 went through an ASSESSMENT programme which they successfully completed. This whole group then successfully completed a COOK CONVENIENCE COURSE wherein they were all awarded with certificates of competence that are accredited by CSG Skills Institute. More news about this in the next edition.

MANDELA DAY 2018Article by: Marié Botha, Project Manager Mediclinic Kloof

Ukweza staff members at Kloof paid tribute to our Client for their continuous support on 18 July 2018. Staff members in all departments; Technical, Admin, Management and Nursing appreciated the cup cakes and sweeties.

Our PLO Ahme Stadler, Admin Manager Mosa Chabalala and ACM Norah Koko together with our loyal ward hostesses lightened up their day for 67 minutes of fun and entertainment !!!

Proud to be part of this great team!

As part of Mandela day we at CSG Food Solutions also collected donations for so many forgotten fur babies who are desperate for homes!

The donations were delivered at FORA (Friends of Rescued Animals) who had extended their sincere thanks and gratitude to all those kind people who had donated food and blankets to their society!

Many thanks to all the CSG Food Solutions employees who partook in the Mandela Day celebrations. Special thanks for giving of your time to assist our often forgotten fury friends at FORA. Pictured with Estelle is Collen from Fora.
