Wednesday, June 21, 2006 THE OBERLIN HERALD 7A Club News Delegate attends convention Neighbors donate bears The Oberlin Camp of the Ro- yal Neighbors held a Teddy Bear tea at the Oberlin Medical Arts Clinic meeting room on June 1 with 19 members and guests present, including several from the McCook Camp. Ten teddy bears, furnished by Royal Neighbors headquarters, were presented to Lynn Doeden, administrator of the Decatur County Hospital, and Suzanne Ahlberg, director of nursing. The bears will be given to children in the hospital. Tea and cookies were served and a social hour followed. The next meeting will be July 14 at the Golden Age Center. Pat Wright of Chapter BH of Oberlin was among more than 250 delegates at the 104th annual convention of the Kansas Chap- ter of PEO from June 9 to 11 in Great Bend. The theme was “Star Lives Brighten the World.” Five projects sponsored by the international organization include the PEO educational loan fund, a revolving loan fund to assist women with low-interest loans; Cottey College; the PEO Interna- tional Peace Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for international students to pursue graduate study in the U.S. and Canada; the PEO program for continuing education, which pro- vides grants to women who need to resume their studies; and PEO Scholar Awards, for women in the U.S. and Canada pursuing ad- vanced degrees or engaged in advanced study and research. The state group sponsors Sun- flower Grants, one-time awards to any Kansas resident who needs financial assistance, and Kansas Cottey College Scholarships, which provides scholarships for women who attend the college. Anyone interested in any of these scholarships should contact Mrs. Wright or any PEO member for details. Among former Oberlin resi- dents attending the convention were Jean Rumble, Great Bend; Pat Dixon, Wichita; Carol Wei- bert, Manhattan; Paula Bainter, Ellsworth; and Helen Riepl, Cimarron. Lisa Dawn Wagoner and Kyle Blair plan to be married on Aug. 5, at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs. Parents of the couple are Kevin and Colleen Wagoner of Sharon Springs; Mark and Marci Bultje of Sterling, Colo., and Bart Bollers of Merino, Colo. The bride-to-be is a 2002 gradu- ate of Wallace County High School and a 2005 graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in ac- counting with a minor in computers. She is working for Lemke, Feis, and Company in Brighton, Colo. Her grandparents are Stan and Ramona Shaw and Wilfred and Alice Wag- oner of Jennings. Carol Shaw of Selden is her great-grandmother. Her fiance graduated from Me- rino High School in 2001 and gradu- ated in 2005 from Kansas Wesleyan University. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, K-12, and is working for the Brighton School District. His grandparents are Kermit and Caren Carr of Frametown, W.Va., and Dale and Kathy Colerick of Torrington, Wyo. Among those planning to attend will be David and Hilda McGee, Oberlin; his son, Mike and Sharon McGee, Houston; and his daugh- ters, Kathy Thonhoff, Salida, Colo., and Patricia Horning, Wichita, along with many of their married children and grandchildren. David’s sister, Enid Foland, and her daugh- ter, Lynette Donaldson of Almena, and Oral and Doris Brunk of Lyons also plan to be here. Sharon (Beach) McGee said she has been working on the genealogy of the McGee family and among ancestral surnames are: McGee, Corcoran, Tyrrell, Wade, Payne, Olinger, Williams, Plumb, Han- chett, and Medearis, all of whom had connections to Decatur County. The family welcomes friends and extended family members to drop by from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 1 at the hall. Family plans reunion Christina Coiner, daughter of Matt and Sarah Coiner of Jennings, graduated summa cum laude from Kan- sas Wesleyan University on May 13 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Spanish. Commence- ment speaker was K. Kyra Phillips, news anchor and corre- spondent for CNN/US in Atlanta. A 2003 graduate of Jennings High School, Miss Coiner was a Presi- dential Scholar and a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society. Woman earns college degree Theresa Smith, daughter of Larry and Karen Smith of Oberlin, is among members of the Emporia State Singers who are touring Austria, Italy and Switzerand with the Empo- ria State A Cap- pella Choir. Other mem- bers of the group are Ben Spalding, Alissa Fox and Jake Narverud. They gave a concert in Oberlin in January. Miss Smith is a senior, majoring in music education. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 2002. Student tours in Europe Herman and Caroline Jacobs, Dresden, will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary June 24, 2006 in Leoville with a 5 p.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception Church. Neighbors donate bearsThe Oberlin Camp of the Ro-
