As a researcher working at the CNRS, my work mainly consists in conducting
research. Nevertheless, since the beginning of my Ph. D, I have been a sessional lecturer.
Bachelor and Master degrees (LESC and INALCO)
From 1999 to 2008, I gave punctual lectures at the Center for Ethnology and
Comparative Sociology (LESC) (http://www.mae.u-
paris10.fr/lesc/spip.php?article195). I taught students in anthropology the
specificities of Sino Anthropology and of fieldwork in China. By focusing on
ethnographic data, I taught them how to develop anthropological analysis. At
INALCO (the National Institute of Eastern Languages and Civilizations)
(http://www.inalco.fr/), I taught students who were learning Chinese
ethnologist perspectives and ethnographic methods.
In 2008 (from the 25th April to 10th May), I was invited at the Teheran
University under the aegis of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to give
lectures at the Social Sciences Institute, at the World’s Studies Faculty and at
the Academy of Arts. The lectures given were:

From 2009 to 2010, I gave semi-annual lectures about anthropology as part of
the Master of philosophy and Social Sciences of University Paris XII, Essonne
Training Centre (Paris). The students were specialized educators and hospital
workers (nurses, doctors).
From 2009 to 2010, I gave weekly courses at the University of Burgundy (the
aim of this teaching was to initiate people to anthropology and sinology).
From January to March 2010, I gave lectures at the Confucius Institute of
Memphis (USA). I organized a weekly seminar: “An anthropological approach

ethnomusicology about Bai music.
From 2013 to 2016, I tutored Li Zihan (LESC), Chinese doctoral student who
writes a thesis about the ritual writing of the Naxis (Yunnan).
Since 2015, I tutore Fan Yifan (Yunnan University, Kunming, China/Master 1
EHESS), who is writing a Master’s thesis about the reconstruction of an
ancient Tibetan city: Dukezong（独克宗古城）in Northern Yunnan. I had the
opportunity to work with Fan Yifan in the field, in China, in 2015 and 2017, to
show her the way to observe, to collect data and to analyze them. This kind of
master-disciple transmission was a great experience that I plan to repeat again
with other students in order to teach them ethnographic methods and
anthropological theories “in live”.
12. Fieldworks
From 1999 to 2002: doctoral thesis fieldwork in Yunnan (China), Stone Forest County,
among the Sanis (Yi Nationality)
From 12 september to 8 October 2007: Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai (writings and
images as political mediations)
I had an active part in the research program “Ecologies and politics of writing” (2006-
2008) developed in the research team named “Anthropology of writing” (EHESS, IIAC). I
proposed to experiment a kind of “lecture” of the Tian’anmen Square in order to analyze the
urban space and its mediations (signboards, pictures, etc.). Cf. report of this study in “grey
literature” (list of publications).

Then my interest for the patrimonialization process, growing fast in China since 2003,
prompted me to study Chinese museography in Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing. My aim was
to understand how China exposes its own historical perspectives through architecture and
artefacts.
From 17 to 24 september 2010: Shanghai World Expo and the Crown of the East (I)
The aim of this fieldwork was to observe the World Expo has it was organized in
Shanghai and to focus on the pavilions created by the Chinese State in particular:

From 27 to 30 september 2011: The Crown of the East (II) and the Chinese notion of
“universal”
This second visit post-World Expo gave me access to the garden created around the
Chinese pavilion. This microcosm expresses the new Chinese vision of the world, its own
way of defining the notion of “universal”. Its observation was necessary in order to complete
the book I was writing about this building (published in 2014).
From 31 September to 17 October 2001: Yunnan, Kunming and Stone Forest County
I kept on working with shamans on understanding their ritual books and metaphysics. I
began the transcription of funeral texts. I also had access to female mediumnistic sessions. At
the same time, I could see urban and village transformations through the creation of roads and
new institutional buildings. I began to question the notion of “harmonious urbanization”
developed by the Central power in Beijing as it is anchored among the Sanis through the
creation of an “Ideal Yi city” in Stone Forest County, museums and ethnographic parks.
From 25 October to 11 November 2013: Yunnan, Stone Forest County (among Sanis)
I studied transmission processes between shamans. I went to meet the oldest religious
specialists of the area in order to compare the way they became shamans and the way
a young shaman is today initiated.

I kept on studying ritual lineages and shamanistic transmission processes. I began to
elaborate a kind of “scriptural cartography”, each lineage preserving a few scriptural
specificities. I pursued the observation of new forms of shamanistic transmission
through State agencies.
From September 2014 to June 2016 : The Louvre Abu Dhabi and the concept of
“universal museum”
After having analyzed the notion of “universal” as it is perceived in China, I intend to
develop a comparative approach about the role given to architecture and artefacts in
order to “portrait” cultural and political ideologies, especially the notion of “universal”,
I developed a research in Abu Dhabi about the Louvre that should open in December
2016. The aim is to analyze the museography and the notions of “universalism” and
“post-culturalism” introduced by his French conceptor Charnier.
