We extend special thanks to our special guests. Foremost among these were Maureen and Phil Miller, the parents of SSG Robert J. Miller, who was posthumously awarded our nation's highest honor, the Medal of Honor, by President Obama in 2010. Also present were members of Nancy Blue's family. Nancy was awarded the Chapter's Earle Denton Award this year. Central to our celebrations were the Soldiers and NCOs of the year from both the 143rd ESC (Army Reserves) and 2-124th Infantry Regiment, FL Army National Guard, as well as the PEO STRI STAR Awardees, and the Acquisition Person of the year, Mr. Joe Cabret. We were also honored to have the Chief of the Army Reserves, LTG Jack Stultz attend and enjoy the Army's Birthday with us. The Ball was made possible with the great support of our Corporate Sponsors, Army Ball Sponsors and Table Sponsors who were recognized during the Ball. Along with the fabulous Army Ball Committee, headed up by Jan Baka and Jovanna Nelson ran a great show. We can't thank these groups enough for their hard work and contributions! It goes without saying that Soldiers from many local units and commands, to include the UCF ROTC Detachment, the Orlando Recruiting Company, and the Active Duty and Civilians personnel from PEO STRI, all helped make this a memorable event. Enjoy the pictures in this special newsletter, we will have additional articles on our awardees and other Chapter activities in an upcoming edition. President’s Message
Welcome to our Special Army Ball newsletter!
We wanted to publish some of pictures from the 236th Army Ball for everyone to enjoy.
It also gives us a chance to thank you for your support to our great Soldiers and their
families throughout the past AUSA Operational Year (which ends 30 June). Without
you r cont inued he lp , ou r s uppor t to S o ld ie r s w ou ld be
limited. Everything that we do for our Soldiers is possible only because of You and your
generosity. Thank you for your commitment to our Great Army! As I said at the Army Ball, you
continue to amaze our community by your commitment and dedication to our men and women who are pro-
tecting our freedoms.
And what a great Army Ball! We all owe a huge ‘Thank You!’ to the entire Army Ball committee and this
year’s lead, Jan Baka, and her superb deputy, Jovanna Nelson. They put on an Army Ball that was simply
outstanding. It was a great evening! As always, made even more special because of our great Corporate
Members, their sponsorship and support! We sponsored a record number of Wounded
Warriors and soldiers this year, and more of you stayed later enjoying the evening.
But we’re not infallible. Aegis, a great corporate member and their COO, Lance Cooper, were a table spon-
sor this year and were not recognized during the program for their support. I sincerely apologize and we
work hard to recognize all the people who make our Chapter a success.
As we start the ‘new’ AUSA year I’d like to ask for your continued support in the coming year. Next year we
have three major events where we will need our Individual and Corporate Member support to be successful:
- The AUSA Annual Meeting in October 2011 in Washington DC
- Our Chapter will host the AUSA 3rd Region Meeting in Orlando in April 2012
- The 237th Army Birthday Ball, to be held on 16 June 2012
Please plan to the Sunshine Chapter in these future events.
Again, we’ve had a great year! All do to YOUR efforts in showing the support our Warfitghters and their
families deserve.

Just prior to the Memorial Day Weekend the Sunshine Chapter lost a great friendin Pat Garmley as she passed away on the evening of May 25th.
I realize many of you may not have known Pat, she was the ChapterSecretary in the 1990s and was known for always taking pictures of and document-ing the Chapter’s activities.
Pat was very active in the Chapter and was a personal friendof mine – she was one of the first people I met when I came toPM TRADE in 1996, truly a great lady who put Soldiersa b o v e a l l . P a t w a s p a r t o f t h ebackbone of the Sunshine Chapter as it got on its feet and
started to run – always towards Soldiers. She was a lifetime member of AUSA – a sign ofher commitment to serving Soldiers.
At her memorial services she was remembered as the caring, energetic and friend that she was to everyone.She is survived by her daughters Leah and Jennifer McCarrick and her brother Phil Curbow.
It is great people like Pat who make a difference in our lives and the lives of our Soldiers.
