Climate 5 major climate zones that are determined mainly by latitude

and distance from the sea. The northern Australia enjoys a tropical climate. Southern Australia experiences a temperate one. The tropical states Queensland and the Northern Territory “in

winter” experiences temperatures around 68-75 degrees F and rain is rare.

The beaches and tropical islands of Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef are at their most pleasant times of the year.

In summer, the northern states are hotter and wetter southern states are simply hotter with temperatures around 105 degrees F

Snow is rare in the southern most capitals Melbourne and Hobart falling less than once every ten months.

Adapting to Environment Australians settle in the coastal areas and

build houses according to their conditions.

In dry parts of Southern Australia, houses are solid stone offering warmth in winter and insulation from heat in the summer.

In Queensland a common house is the “Queenslander” a weather board house up high on stumps to catch the breeze.

Regions Generally classified into the geographic region of

Oceania. The region is the major area located between Asia

and the Americas. The island is named Oceania because the islands

are linked by water unlike most other physical features. ( New Guinea, Indonesia, New Zealand and other smaller numerous islands)

The regions of the south and west are dry lands and deserts. The eastern shore is known for its coastal plain and beaches. In the north the region closest to the tropics, rainforests are wide spread.
