V. REPORTS

DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

Rev. Louw, Rev. Dr. Moore, members of the District Assembly and friends, The theme for this District Assembly and for this coming year is: “By His Spirit”. Zerubbabel had been called by the Lord to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem after the Jews had returned from captivity in Babylon. Humanly, the odds were against his success, but the Word of the Lord came in Zechariah 4:6. “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord Almighty." I am encouraged by these words to realise it is about what Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, has done, is doing and will do through a humble, obedient people to transform this world and build His Church.

This past year God has been gracious to us and helped us to achieve modest gains across the Australia Southern District in order to achieve our objective of making Christ-like disciples in the nations. This past year we have focused on: Developing Young Leaders

We sponsored mentors and protégés to the Leadership Development Initiative Conference held at Wollongong in August. There, mentors and protégés learned the importance and how-to of the mentoring relationship for developing tomorrow’s leaders. Protégés were then linked to mentors and have been interacting on a weekly basis. The intention is that these relationships will continue for years and be multiplied as the protégés become mentors themselves to other youth in a couple of years. This initiative was made possible by the FSC, Dr. John Moore, who provided excellent speakers and trainers. The initiative was organised by our District Youth Pastor, Thiago Bonifacio, and his team.

The three young pastors, Patrick and Sarah Montelongo and Andre Santos, who were deployed last year into ministry, have made effective contributions to ministry in their assignments in Melbourne and Gawler. In the midst of their busy schedules, somehow they found time to get married --- Patrick to Sarah and Andre to Gawler girl Rachel Fisher. Sarah also managed to complete her university studies.

This year, we arranged for Mr. Gavin Holfter to become a trainee pastor at the Croydon Park Church, working with Pastor Raphael and making a great contribution to the spiritual life and ministry of the South Australia Zone.

The District NYI, under the leadership of Sarah Montelongo, held a very successful camp in Sydney with 90 campers from across the District.

Neighbours Ministry

Reverends Diler and Akeela Barazinch continue to lead and develop our ministry to neighbours via radio and literature. We are now broadcasting many hours per week on community radio and internet. The District has funded the conversion and equipping of the garage at our Sefton property into a recording studio for radio and

27

television. Through Diler and Akeela, we have the opportunity to expand into satellite and community television in the coming year. The potential to record and broadcast in many languages is huge. Diler and Akeela desperately want pastors who speak languages other than English (but also English) to record messages for broadcast. We also have the potential to travel in order to video services and / or lectures. If you are interested, please contact me. If you are from interstate, we will help you come to Sydney to record a series of messages or lessons.

Closed Ministries

Unfortunately, two ministries closed officially this year. Mt Gambier was a ministry to refugees. When the designated lay pastor had to move back to Adelaide, no one was left to continue the ministry. At Northlakes, the church had declined, and the people decided to disband meetings and attend other churches. This does not mean these ministries are failures, rather that the life of their ministry was shorter than we would have liked it to be. I thank those who participated in their ministries.

New Ministries

New ministries that began this year or will be beginning next year are:

A new South Sudanese Church at Clayton in Melbourne begun by Rev. Stephen Gatthep. At the same time, he continues to pastor our Morwell Church 100 km away. This church began even though Stephen's son Kuiy was being treated for lymphoma at the time. Kuiy’s health is stable.

A women’s support group at Kenthurst to provide emotional and prayer support for the community.

A food bank ministry at Enmore, which is helping to feed 70 families on a weekly basis.

A new church at Wollongong NSW. Rev. Douglas Carolisen and his family moved from Gawler, South Australia, our largest church on the District, to start a new church in Wollongong NSW. They have been working hard to make contacts with other churches and the community and have begun weekly prayer meetings and fortnightly services.

A new Greek language morning service at the Mt Waverley Church.

A restart of the Christian Men’s Support Network in the Thornbury Church, led by Harry Malos. This is growing rapidly and feeding into the Thornbury English service which is growing well.

Home groups in Sydney, started by Thiago and Camila Bonifacio in the coming year as a first stage in a new church plant.

28

A new church building being built at Wantirna to accommodate the coming growth.

Personnel

God has provided us with some excellent pastors for key positions.

This year we have had the installation of Rev. Raphael Ngandu as lead pastor at Croydon Park Church.

Rev. Douglas Carolisen and family followed God’s call to plant a church in Wollongong NSW.

Gavin Holfter moved from Sydney to serve as trainee pastor at Croydon Park in Adelaide.

Rev. Kristopher Govender arrived from South Africa, and I think he is a perfect fit into the ministry at Wantirna.

Rev. Michael Schmidt from the ANPD accepted a call to the Gawler Church where he has been well received by the congregations of Gawler and Pinery.

We have also had Rev. Audrey Porter relocate back on the district from NTC where she had to resign from teaching due to health issues. Audrey remains unassigned.

Thiago and Camila are in the process of obtaining permanent residency in Australia.

District Financial Assistance and Budgets

The District has continued to provide loans to many churches for equipment and buildings as follows.

Kenthurst for major parsonage renovations, including a new bathroom and kitchen.

Birrong for a new church kitchen and parsonage carport.

Wantirna for a new church youth hall building.

A recording studio and equipment for the Neighbours Ministry.

Mt Waverly for solar power.

Our churches continue to be faithful in the repayment of special loans for maintenance and equipment, and all churches paid their District and NTC budgets in full. The District is subsidising the rent for Rev. Douglas Carolisen at Wollongong and providing low rent housing for Reverends Akeela and Diler Barazinch in

29

Sydney while they work with our Neighbours Ministry. We have also provided salary assistance for Patrick and Sarah Montelongo to start ministry in Melbourne and short term salary assistance for Rev. Caine Pennell at Enmore. We have now ceased providing salary assistance for Rev. Thiago Bonifacio, as he is wanting to self-support while he plants a church and continue to serve as District Youth Pastor. National Board

The National Board met in Perth in August and:

Discussed the best ways for the church to improve its missional effectiveness in Australia.

Emphasised the requirement that all local churches have and implement risk management, particularly with regard to child protection policies.

Agreed that a person needs to have completed the following five core subjects before becoming a recognised church leader.

1. Wesleyan Theology / Doctrine of Holiness.

2. History and Polity (Church of the Nazarene History).

3. Hermeneutics (Interpretation of the Bible).

4. Pastoral Ministry in the Wesleyan Context.

5. The Story of God (An Overview of the Old and New Testaments).

Regional Involvement

Rev. David Harris continues to serve as Regional Compassionate Ministries Coordinator and Manager of NazCare in Australia. Australasian Nazarene Theological College (ANTC)

The District continues to support our College through:

Paying budgets and loans.

Participating on the board.

Encouraging our people to enrol in courses at ANTC.

Continuing our initiative of sponsoring new students one semester unit in their first year.

Encouraging each pastor to use ANTC to resource their church.

Encouraging each church to have at least one person actively enrolled at ANTC each semester.

Encouraging each church to make prayer for NTC a priority in corporate

30

and private prayer.

Web Site

The District continues to co-sponsor the National Church Website which allows each church and ministry to manage their page content. Please make sure the information on your church page is up-to-date. www.nazarene.org.au The Future

I am inspired and optimistic about the future of the District because of:

The commitment and love of our pastors for Jesus and their people.

The strategies we are following to raise up godly leaders with a passion to serve God and a love for people.

The growing flexibility and variety we see in various expressions of what it means to be a church.

The genuine love and fellowship there is among the people in the churches.

The pastor and people’s growing desire to reach out in love and get involved in their communities.

The high quality of pastors God is helping us to recruit and raise up on the District.

The desire and ability of the District to support new churches and ministries we are starting and strategies we are developing.

Thanks

Leaders are made by the people with whom they serve, so, in closing, I would like to thank God for the great people with whom I am privileged to serve Him and you in this role. Firstly, let me thank all of the pastors and spouses who were not individually mentioned in this report. I know and Jesus knows your labour for Him --- your struggle and striving, pouring out your lives, denying yourselves, many without salary or little salary, literally working 2 jobs. You do not let the devil distract you, but you focus on the goal and move forward to win the prize for which Jesus has called you heavenward. I thank you for your hard work and faithfulness for all you are and do for the church and Jesus. Also I would thank:

The Regional Director, Rev. Mark Louw, for his guidance and seeking to

31

understand the unique nature of the Church on the Southern District in order to help us in our mission.

The FSC, John and Vicki Moore, for your advice, help, love and support for myself and the District.

The District Advisory Board (Rev. Douglas Carolisen, Rev. Caine Pennell, Rev. Paul Spanos, Mr. Gary Beaumont, Mr. Harry Malos and Mrs. Jenny Karmas). Your support, advice, commitment and love are deeply appreciated.

The District Department leaders, Rev. Chris Northey SDMI, Mrs. Jenny Karmas NMI, Rev. Sarah Montelongo NYI and their teams for promoting and supporting the work of their relevant departments

All the pastors of the District. Thank you for honouring Christ by your example of love for all people, your faithfulness in prayer and your commitment to preach Christ as the answer. Your dedication is amazing.

Rev. Thiago Bonifacio, our District Youth Pastor, who has been such a blessing to the church by raising up and mentoring young leaders.

Our courageous church planters --- Douglas, Bernice, Kimberley and Gabby.

Diler and Akeela Barazinch for their passion for and hard work in ministry to “Neighbours” through multimedia.

The Credentials / Studies Board for making wise decisions and encouraging new pastors.

The District Treasurer, David Rodda, for his extraordinary efficiency, patience and grace.

Mr. Keith Allen for auditing the District books and giving much needed financial advice to NTC.

David Harris for his leadership of NazCare and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and helping with grant applications and keeping us informed of prayer needs.

Gail and Gary Beaumont for publishing and printing the District Journal.

Rev. Steve and Violetta Kasambalis, pastors of the Mt Waverley Church, and all the people of this church who have worked hard in preparing for and hosting the District Assembly. I think they deserve a round of applause.

All delegates and friends who have taken the time and incurred the expense to be here.

All the people of the District who show Jenny and I so much love and care

32

when we visit your churches. We love you, and it is a pleasure to work with you.

My wife Jenny who loves and cares for me and is a great help to me in this ministry. My love and appreciation for her just keeps growing. Our children and their families for their love, support, practical help and encouragement.

I thank Jesus for His salvation and the presence of the Holy Spirit. He loves, inspires and strengthens me. He has given me a great family and a loving church to love and serve. I love Him.

District Secretary, Karen Northey, who amazes me by her grace and efficiency in the work of preparing for the District Assembly. This will be Karen’s last Assembly as District Secretary, as due to chronic illness she feels unable to continue beyond the publishing of the District Assembly Journal. Karen, you are loved and appreciated across the District and by this grateful Superintendent.

Respectfully submitted, Ian B. Davidson

DISTRICT SDMI CHAIRPERSON

Welcome Rev. Louw, Dr. Moore, Rev. Davidson and fellow pastors and leaders on the Australia Southern District. It has been a privilege to be the Chair of the SDMI for the Australia Southern District. As the SDMI Chair, I was able to attend the General Assembly and associated convention and workshops. The Church of the Nazarene worldwide has many creative and exciting things happening. A sample of this is presented at the conventions and workshops, but, even then, there are so many that it is impossible to be involved in it all. Nevertheless, I would recommend to all who possibly can, to attend the next (2017) General Assembly and workshops and conventions. Many creative and exciting things are also happening here in the Australia Southern District as far as SDMI is concerned. There has been significant improvement in the understanding of discipleship and mentoring (the 'D' in SDMI). This is based on conversations with local church pastors and SDMI leaders. This has been verified by the 2013 statistics that show that the number of people involved in discipleship mentoring activity for all churches has risen from 149 to 196, a total increase of 47, or 32%. This is a huge statistical gain. But it is more than statistics. Based on communication with those involved at the local church level, the vast majority of those involved in discipleship are youth and young adults. This stands well for the future of the Nazarene church. According

33

to the research, such as from the Barna Group, a reason for the high drop out of youth and young adults from the Christian faith is that their experience of Christianity lacks depth. Good discipleship should not only overcome this but also equip the youth for leadership within the church. A lack of feeling of significance and opportunity to lead is another factor in retention within the Christian faith. Thus, discipleship also answers another factor in regard to the church's future success. Although the adult average weekly attendance has dropped by 7, and the children's responsibility list has dropped, all other areas in relation to SDMI have shown increases. This gives a total responsibility list increase of 42 and an average weekly attendance list increase of 21. To all the churches, I would like to say thank you for your excellent work in the area of SDMI. I would especially like to thank the Northlakes Church. This church has only 6 members and no permanent facility, yet they have had 122 children in their responsibility list. This has come about due to their regular ministry in the local school. I would also like to thank the 2013 Zone Representatives. I appreciate the feedback. I look forward to working with the 2013-2014 representatives. I note that Gawler has been refining their child protection policy and putting in place risk management procedures. I know other churches have been doing the same. In Canberra, under ACT law, the policy is referred to as a 'vulnerable person protection policy', as it is extended to all persons with disability, the aged as well as other groups. Maybe with some modifications to their protection policy, this is something that all churches could consider. It is also good to see some of the churches (e.g. Croydon Park) using the Nazarene CLT material. This material is easily accessible via the web, and some of it is free. (See the presentation later on how to obtain this material.) As a person who has dedicated his whole life to education, I cannot emphasise enough the importance of education in terms of establishing self-concept, values and future directions, as well as overcoming problems. Secular government is always using education in that way. The Nazarene church in Australia needs to be aware of these factors from a Christ-centred point of view as we endeavour to do Christ's will. (I will elaborate further on this later in the SDMI Convention.) To enhance our awareness of what resources are available, both locally and internationally in the area of SDMI, a web site and blog is proposed. The web will raise the profile of the Nazarene churches involved in SDMI. It will also serve as a link to the many resources, some of which have been highlighted at the General Assembly workshops. The blog will give connection for the various churches, which can also act as a source of encouragement. The recruiting of people with the skill and Godly commitment to implement this web site and blog has already begun. As far as SDMI is concerned, God is doing great things within the Nazarene church

34

on the Southern District. Praise God and keep up the good work. Respectfully submitted, Chris Northey District SDMI Chairperson

NMI DISTRICT PRESIDENT

Reverend Ian Davidson, Delegates and Friends, Thank you for entrusting me with the ministry of NMI this year. It has been my privilege to serve my Lord as His servant to the churches in this capacity, not by my power, or by my might but totally by His Spirit's leading, direction and strength. The Lord has me busy in a lot of areas of life, but I truly believe that, if I am obedient to His call on my life, He will keep His promise to never leave me or abandon me and will give me the time, energy and desire to serve Him. But sometimes I think to myself, what AM I doing here!! You can't possibly manage all that's going on in your life and then NMI as well!! But I am quickly reminded of my purpose in this life when I read our NMI Theme: Making Christlike Disciples in the Nations. Matt 28 vs 17, after Jesus' resurrection, says: "When the eleven disciples saw Him they worshipped Him but some doubted." Why did they doubt? They had just seen the risen Lord! They doubted that they could continue to do the work He had called them to do - to follow Him. But then Jesus came to them saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe the things that I have commanded you - and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age." Jesus comes to us today and says - "It's OK - keep going, keep doing what I have called you to do because I have all authority in heaven and on earth". Do we believe that He died on the cross and was resurrected? Yes - then we must also believe that He is not only the Saviour but the Son of God and has all authority in heaven and on earth, so we can Go in confidence that He goes before us. Jesus didn't tell us to Go and save souls - he tells us to Go and make disciples in the nations - Go and tell others about Him and His love for them - Go and be Jesus to them, teaching them to follow Him. The Holy Spirit is the one who will bring about salvation in a person's life, not us. Our calling is to communicate with Jesus, and to communicate Jesus to others.

35

This is a huge calling, but one that comes with a promise - that Jesus will be with us to the ends of the age. On the Asia Pacific Region alone, there are 8,000 unreached people groups. Can we make disciples in those people groups for Christ? Can we reach our families, neighbours, friends, work or school colleagues for Christ? Not on our own, but we have the promise from Jesus himself that we can - "All authority has been given to me - therefore - GO!!!" Oswald Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest, put it this way: "The challenge to the missionary does not come in the lines that people are difficult to get saved, that backsliders are difficult to reclaim, that there is callous indifference in society, but along the lines of his or her own personal relationship with Jesus Christ." Do we believe that Jesus has all authority and power by his Holy Spirit to bring salvation to the nations? If we say Yes - then Go and make disciples in the nations in the confidence of Jesus. NMI enables us to do our part in Going. Through NMI, we can GO to all the nations. We are currently in 159 nations around the world. There are officially 196 declared nations in the world today, so there is still plenty of room to Go. There will be challenges along the way - war, poverty, hunger, natural disasters, political oppression, religious conflict, materialism, human trafficking, disease. But behind challenges are opportunities. There is a lot of work to do on our own Region and beyond to reach people with the love of God, to let them know that Jesus loves them, and to lead them to the One who can free them and give them salvation. Will you take up the challenge to trust and obey Jesus to Go - wherever that may be - knowing that He will be with you to the ends of the age and trusting in His power and authority? I am pleased to say that the ASD does believe in going to the Nations and the role that missions plays in the Great Commission. This past year, I have concentrated on resourcing our NMI Presidents with NMI news, DvDs and information to encourage them in their ministry for NMI to the local church. I am greatly encouraged by the passion our NMI Local Church Presidents and our NMI Council have for mission. This report is a reflection of their service to the Lord. Our churches have reported a total of 495 NMI members and 108 associate members. This past year, our churches have raised $33,371.84, with $22,347.45 toward our WEF goal. Of the 12 churches on the district, 7 paid their WEF goal in full or overpaid it. As a District, we came short of our WEF goal, but I believe that our next year will be better, with the challenge to overpay our WEF. WEF funds our global missionaries and keeps them in the nations serving and

36

making disciples in places that we may not be able to go. By supporting WEF, we believe in the authority of Jesus to send us to all the nations with the Gospel. All our churches participated in Alabaster offerings, and together we raised a total of $3,548.45 toward providing places for people to be discipled. Through Praying, Discipling, Giving and Educating, the four core values of NMI, we can support the work of Mission in our world. Two of our churches were able to meet all four NMI core values this year by involving their people in praying, discipling others, meeting their WEF goal for the year in full and educating their people about missions in the world. Congratulations to Canberra and Gawler churches - Our Mission Priority One churches this year. Three of our District's servants have been obedient to the call of Jesus to Go as volunteers into mission areas outside of Australia. Lou Moss from SA went earlier this year to Mango Tree Respite Centre in Tonga to help as a volunteer for 4 months. Tedd Sadauskas from our Gawler church, who was a member of the W & W team to PNG in 2012, went back to Kudjip Nazarene Hospital in March this year for 1 month as a volunteer to help fix the broken machinery. Tedd was asked to return to help with the building of the new surgical building. He left this past Monday and will be there for 3 months as a volunteer. Phil Cellich from Enmore, who has previously served in Thailand, will be going to Kudjip in a few weeks for one month. Phil is studying Medicine at Sydney University and is going to Kudjip as a volunteer and to shadow the mission doctors as part of his studies. I love the fact that the Nazarene church is a mission-focused church, focused on the Great Commission to be obedient to the Son of God, our risen Saviour. So let's keep focused on what our calling is - to Go and make disciples in the nations. I am excited about what the Lord has in store for us in the coming year in the lead up to the 100th Anniversary of NMI. Let's seize the opportunities God puts before us to know that our involvement is an investment in the lives of others, as we show Jesus to a hurting, a fallen world. I have a special presentation to make to a dear NMI friend who truly believes in the Great Commission to Go and make disciples. This dear lady has served NMI for many decades. Mary Lilja has this year retired from NMI service as the Mt Waverley NMI President after decades of dedicated and passionate service to the Lord. On behalf of the ASD, I would like to present a Distinguished Service Award to Mary. Respectfully submitted, Jenny Karmas

NYI DISTRICT PRESIDENT

37

I am so grateful for each and every person here in the NYI Convention today. I know that every person involved in NYI has a heart for young people, and for that I am very grateful. I’d like to take this time to thank my wonderful husband who also happens to be the NYI Vice President; this is really a team effort. We are really so blessed that God has placed us in this position because we are able to put to use our passion for seeing young people grow closer to God and build life long relationships in the church. As it has been my first year as NYI President, it’s taken a while to get my head around where we are as a church and how best to take the vision that we have further to reach even more young people. 2013 started on a great foot for NYI with our District youth camp ministering to over 80 young people from South Australia, New South Wales, Canberra and Victoria. Our guest speaker, Kenny Wade from Brisbane, shared around the theme of being ‘All In’. We focused on being completely committed on your walk with Christ and being in it with others. We had the privilege of baptising 5 young people and saw many more make a decision to follow Jesus. Every year after camp has ended, I feel so blessed to have been a part of what God is doing in and through the lives of our young people. I’d like to take this time to thank one person in particular. Without him, I think camp wouldn’t even exist today. Glenn Stanley…you are a true champion, and on behalf of the NYI Council, I would like to say thank you for your passion and commitment to making camp what it is today. There are exciting things taking place around our District. In particular, in Adelaide, Andre and Gavin have been doing an amazing job of leading the youth of Croydon Park and Gawler churches. They held a combined Spring Camp along with their weekly youth meetings at Gawler. We are really excited about the talent and level of leadership that is coming out of this zone. Here in Melbourne, Pastor Stephen has been doing an amazing job of raising up young leaders in the Morwell and Clayton churches. This year, Patrick and I had the enormous privilege of representing the Australian Southern District NYI at the General Assembly in Indianapolis in June. It was such a great experience to meet so many young leaders from all over the world who share a passion for NYI. The theme of the NYI convention was ‘Be, Do, Go’, focusing on Evangelism, Discipleship and Leadership development. During one of the electives given about Event Planning, I was asked to share my insight on how we run Summer Camps where I shared videos and ideas during the elective.

38

We are really looking forward to what is to come for NYI next year. Our summer camp will be on January 4-8 here in Melbourne with the theme being ‘Heart and Soul’ and will focus on what it means to embrace God’s love with all your heart and all your soul. We are also excited to be voting on a new NYI Council this year and working closely with them to plan and equip our zones with hosting their own Youth initiatives and ministries. We are going to be working closely with the Council to make summer camp more effective in reaching young people. Patrick and I have been in discussion with the Queensland NYI Council to start planning a new joint Young Adults Camp in the October long weekend in 2014 in Coffs Harbour. We believe this is a fantastic opportunity for our young adults to spend a weekend fellowshipping with others their own age and hearing from God. Pray that God is in everything we do and goes before us to mark the way. Respectfully submitted, Sarah Montelongo

Section 3 – Pastoral Support 1. That each church develops a realistic plan to work towards the goal of having their

Pastor’s salary package based on a minimum salary of $25 per hour. That this be a guideline as to the number of work hours expected based on the salary received;

2. That the local church board review at least yearly, the Pastor’s salary and fringe benefits (such as housing allowance, utilities, etc...) and endeavour to raise it by at least the equivalent of the annual CPI (consumer price index);

3. That the payment of the Pastor’s salary and the payment of the district budgets, be preferred claims on the local church;

4. That each local church be responsible for the payment of at least the minimum amount of the superannuation levy for its own Pastor as required by law. However, it is recommended that the local church pay superannuation on the Pastor’s total salary package. The amount be paid quarterly into a superannuation fund nominated by the Pastor and that the Pastor be notified when the payments are made and the fund into which the payment has been made.

5. That each church, where possible, meet the cost of adequate health insurance for the Pastor and family;

6. That the Pastor be given six weeks leave with pay; that the time away for District, Regional and General Church functions not be counted against holiday time; that the time of holidays be determined in counsel with the Church Board and an accurate record kept in the board minutes; that pastors only be permitted to accumulate a total of 12 weeks annual leave.

7. That churches consider giving the Pastor and family an annual cash gift as a token of their appreciation;

8. That each local church, where possible set aside an amount either weekly or monthly to cover the expenses incurred by the Pastor and spouse in attending the January 2015 District Assembly.

9. That the District may make available loans to local churches for pastors needing emergency funding. The local church board to make the application and be responsible to collect repayments and repay the loan. The DAB to set terms and conditions and approve or disapprove the loan at their discretion and according to available funds.

10. That the District continues to administer a Long Service Leave (LSL) fund for senior Pastor’s Long Service Leave;

11. That Senior Pastors be entitled to twelve weeks LSL after 10 years of service on the Southern District and be paid pro-rata after seven years, if transferring to another District. The District to pay the pastor LSL of $500 per week, with the local church to reimburse the District the cash & non cash component (excluding Housing and Utility Benefits) of the Pastor’s salary.

(In effect; the District to "top up" the cash & non cash component of the Pastor's salary, so that the Pastor receives a total cash component of $500 per week whilst on LSL. The local church is still obligated to pay the fringe benefit component of the Pastor's salary whilst he/she is on LSL.)

Section 4 - District Superintendent support 1. That the District Advisory Board review at least yearly, the District

46

Superintendent’s salary and fringe benefits (such as housing allowance, utilities etc...) and endeavour to raise it by at least the equivalent of the annual CPI (consumer price index);

2. That the District Superintendent be given six weeks annual leave with pay; that the time away for District, Regional and General Church functions not be counted against holiday time; that the time of holiday be determined in counsel with the District Advisory Board; and an accurate record kept in the board minutes; That the District Superintendent only be permitted to accumulate a total of 12 weeks annual leave.

3. That the District Superintendent be entitled to twelve weeks LSL after 10 years of service on the Southern District and be paid pro-rata after seven years, if transferring to another District.

4. That the District be responsible for the payment of at least the minimum amount of superannuation levy for the District Superintendent on a quarterly basis, as required by law.

Respectfully submitted, For and on behalf of the Assembly Finance Committee dated 23

rd November, 2013

MEMOIRS COMMITTEE

Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the air. And so we will be with the Lord for ever.

47
