Australia • Extension to New Zealand

Days 1–2 Flight

Flight to Australia • Your adventure begins as your jet departs. “Lose” a calendar day as you cross the International Date Line, bound for the South Pacifi c.

Day 3 Sydney

Arrival in Sydney • Touch down in Sydney, Australia’s oldest and largest city. After clearing customs, you are greeted by your EF Tour Director, who will remain with you throughout your stay. EF walking tour of the Rocks • Enjoy a guid-ed walking tour through the historic Rocks area, where Australia’s fi rst fl eet of European settlers landed in 1788. Built upon a sand-stone foundation from which the area gets its name, today the Rocks serves as a cultural and historical meeting place for Sydney locals and visitors alike. Stroll through the narrow, cobble-stone streets to fi nd galleries, restaurants and shops around every corner. If you’re there on a

Saturday or Sunday, explore the fabulous week-end street market—a tented city block filled with handcrafts, art and local foods. Street performers treat onlookers with examples of their skill. Don’t be surprised if you’re asked to try out your lung power on one of the world’s oldest instruments: the didgeridoo!

Day 4 Sydney

Visit an opal factory • Discover the national gemstone of Australia, the opal, on a visit to an opal factory. Opals make popular souvenirs for many tourists. Sydney Tower • Visit the observation deck of Sydney Tower. At 1,063 feet, it is the second-tallest building south of the Equator! (Th e tallest is the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand.) Tour directed sightseeing of Sydney • Learn about the city’s early days as a land for exiled convicts during Sydney sightseeing.

Overnight in Coffs Harbour • Spend the night in the pristine town of Coff s Harbour. Origi-nally named Korff ’s Harbour, after shipbuilder John Korff who discovered the area in 1847 when seeking shelter from a storm at sea, Coff s Harbour is now the largest banana producing area in New South Wales.

Day 7 Coffs Harbour • Surfers Paradise

Visit Bond University * • Visit the campus of Bond University, Australia’s fi rst private univer-sity. Founded in 1987 by Australia businessman Alan Bond, the university has quickly emerged as a leading institution in Australia. Th e campus is also known for its iconic buildings designed by renowned Japanese architect Arata Isozaki.Transfer to Surfers Paradise • Cross the bor-der from New South Wales into Queensland, arriving in Surfers Paradise. You’ll spend two nights in this resort town situated on Australia’s legendary Gold Coast.

Day 8 Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise Rainforest ecotour • Take a full-day ecotour of the Lamington and Mount Tamborine national parks in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Out-of-this world vegetation, cascad-ing waterfalls and breathtaking views make this an unforgettable trip into Australia’s larg-est preserved subtropical rain forest. Feed ex-otic birds by hand and feast on a morning tea and Aussie barbeque lunch. You’ll also visit O’Reilly’s Guest House and take a “Tree Top Walk” above the rainforest fl oor.

Day 9 Sunshine Coast • Fraser Island

Underwater World Oceanarium • Travel-ing south along the gorgeous and aptly named Sunshine Coast, visit the renowned Underwater World Oceanarium, whose tunneled walkway brings you face-to-face with Australia’s marine life, including colorful fi sh, playful sea turtles and fearsome sharks.

Cruise of Sydney Harbour • Board your boat for a scenic cruise through beautiful Sydney Harbour. You’ll also visit Darling Har-bour, where a complex of shops, gardens and museums opened for the 1988 bicentennial. Visit to Sydney Wildlife World • Get up close and personal with exotic animals at the Sydney Wildlife World in Darling Harbour! Keep your eyes out for kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles and more.

Day 5 Sydney

Free time in Sydney • Spend the day at your own pace in Sydney. You might choose to tour the interior of the Parliament House or browse the shops of Darling Harbour. Also consider visiting some of the city’s acclaimed museums, including the Museum of Sydney, the Museum of Contemporary Art or the inter-active Powerhouse Museum. Optional excursion to the Blue Mountains •

Opt to join a full-day excursion to the spectacu-lar Blue Mountains, named for the blue mist that rises from the area’s eucalyptus trees. Travel west of Sydney, passing by the site of the 2000 Summer Olympics Games, to the Blue Moun-tains, once a seemingly impenetrable barrier to westward expansion. Attend a screening of Th e

Edge, Australia’s only giant-screen destination movie, which recounts how explorers conquered the Blue Mountains in 1813. While conducting research for the film, scientists made an ex-tremely rare botanical discovery: the Wollebi Pine Grove, made up of ancient pine trees not found anywhere else on earth. So important was the discovery, in fact, that the fi lm crew were blindfolded before being led to the spot so that they could not reveal its location!

Day 6 Coffs Harbour

Transfer to Coffs Harbour • Cross Sydney’s spectacular Harbour Bridge as you journey northward to the coastal resort town of Coff s Harbour.

Catamaran to Fraser Island • Board a cata-maran to transfer to Fraser Island. Named after Eliza Fraser, the only survivor of a shipwrecked party that was held captive by Aborigines in 1836, this is the world’s largest sand island.

Day 10 Fraser Island

Fraser Island ecotour • Accompanied by an expert ranger, explore Fraser Island’s inland rain-forest on this thrilling full-day ecotour. Discover the diversity of rainforest vegetation that thrives on the island and marvel at the beauty of Pile Valley. Continue through open woodlands and see the crystal clear water of Wanggoolba Creek. You’ll also visit Lake McKenzie, a pristine lake surrounded by pure white sands.

Day 11 Fraser Island • Sunshine Coast

Catamaran from Fraser Island • Board a cata-maran this morning and bid farewell to Fraser Island as you head back to the mainland.Transfer to the Sunshine Coast • Travel past the picturesque Glasshouse Mountains to Brisbane. A town that owes its origins to a penal colony, Brisbane has since become the capital of Queensland and site of the 1988 World Expo.

Day 12 Home

Return home • Your tour director assists with the transfer to the airport, where you’ll check in for your return fl ight home. In fl ight, you recross the International Date Line and regain your “lost” day.

Day 12 Auckland

Transfer to Auckland • Alternatively, your group can extend its stay three days. Board your flight to Auckland, New Zealand, known as the “City of Sails,” due to its close proximity to Waitemata Harbour.

Day 13 Auckland • Rotorua

Transfer to Rotorua • Journey through New Zealand’s countryside, known for its farming and horse breeding, to Rotorua, home of the Maori people. Rotorua Duck Tour • Travel over land and water for a unique view of Rotorua today. Hop on board an amphibious duck boat on this 90-minute sightseeing adventure of Rotorua’s historic landmarks and natural wonders. As you pass Lake Rotorua, Mokoia Island, Geothermal Sulphur Point and more, your guide will regale you with tales of the area’s history and legends. Th en splash down into the waters of Lake Tiki-tapu and Lake Okareka. Be prepared for mag-nifi cent views of Mount Tarawera, a volcanic mountain whose 1886 eruption greatly altered the region and led to numerous legends.Hangi dinner • Witness Maori song and dance at a special Hangi dinner—a traditional Maori feast prepared in an underground thermal pit.

Day 14 Rotorua

Guided visit of the Whaka area • A Maori guide leads you on a fascinating tour through the geothermal wonders of the Whakareware-wa area. See bubbling pools of mud, crystal springs of hot mineral water, geysers, and richly colored craters. Visit to the Maori Village • Visit Whakar-ewarewa, a model living village, to learn about the Maori lifestyle and tribal customs. Set amid a landscape of hot springs and mud pools, the village inhabitants demonstrate how the Maori continue to live in harmony with their unique environment. You’ll receive the Maori War-rior Greeting and touch noses as a traditional gesture. Skyline Gondola ride • Th en ride the fabu-lous Skyline Gondola for an aerial excursion hundreds of feet up Mount Ngongotaha! Here you can enjoy a wonderful view of the lake and township of Rotorua.

Day 15 Rotorua • Auckland

Visit to the Agrodome • Visit the world-famous Agrodome for a sheep-shearing demon-stration. New Zealand is home to more than 55 million sheep!Transfer to Auckland • Return to Auckland, New Zealand’s and Polynesia’s largest city. Located on a narrow isthmus between two harbors, Auckland is also built atop seven extinct volcanoes. Tour director-led sightseeing of Auckland •

Your tour director introduces you to the city’s major landmarks: the Domain (a hilltop park), the bustling downtown area, the waterfront (with beautiful views of Rangitoto Island and the Harbour Bridge), Mount Eden and Victoria Park Market.Return home • Your tour director will assist with your transfer to the airport where you’ll check in for your return fl ight home. In fl ight, you’ll re-cross the International Date Line and regain your “lost day.” Arrive home on Day 15.
