AUSTRALIAN SINGLES REPORT
From Latin hit to commercial radio triumph, Luis Fonsi’s Despacito (Remix) has pushed its way to the top of the Hot 100, ousting DJ Khaled’s I’m The One, which falls to #4. This has opened the door for Shawn Mendes’ There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back and Ed Sheeran’s persistent Galway Girl to take up the remaining spots in the Top 3.
Liam Payne’s Strip That Down can’t be overlooked at #6. The One Direction star seems to be gathering serious momentum as the official acoustic version of the track is serviced to radio this week.
His buddies Harry Styles and Niall Horan aren’t far behind. Styles’ Sign Of The Times restores its spot in the Top 10 this week, landing at #9 after peaking at #3 at the beginning of May, while Horan’s Slow Hands remains parked at #7 for another week.
Calvin Harris has returned with Feels ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean – a stacked feature list that makes it a clear favourite for this week’s #1 New Single Release.
Harris is no stranger to big-name collaborations. His most recent charting success has come with singles Slide ft. Frank Ocean & Migos, as well as This Is What You Came For ft. Rihanna, which peaked at #1 on the TMN Dance chart and #1 on the Hot 100.
Just over a year after its official service to radio, This Is What You Came For is currently at #90 on the Hot 100, highlighting the longevity that his singles have at radio.
It’s all one-way traffic at radio with David Guetta’s 2U ft. Justin Bieber effortlessly taking out Most Added last week. Every major Australian commercial radio network added the track across the board, much the same way they did with other Bieber-featuring singles I’m The One and Despacito (Remix) over the past month.
2U saw very little competition from The Veronicas’ The Only High and Duke Dumont’s Real Life ft. Gorgon City. Starley’s new single Touch Me didn’t amount to its potential at radio this week, despite adds from Hit’s Ash London LIVE and Nova’s Smallzy’s Surgery.

While Childish Gambino’s Redbone was the biggest riser on the Hot 100 this week, climbing 65 spots from #99 to #34, the most significant Heatseeker is Peking Duk’s Fake Magic ft. AlunaGeorge. In only its second week on the chart, the single has made solid ground, sitting at #18 after debuting at #45.
83 Days, a new non-album single by Australian singer-songwriter Wafia, is this week’s #1 Breaker. Though she’s never been in the Hot 100, Wafia has seen some success in the past on the Alternative chart, especially with Window Seat, which hit a high of #15.
Although we have to wait till next week to find out whether or not 83 Days will make the Hot 100, it’s a safe bet that the track could overtake Window Seat’s Alt chart peak in the coming weeks.

South London multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Jax Jones is riding high following the worldwide success of smash single You Don’t Know Me ft. BBC Sound of 2017 nominee and future star Raye, and looks set to continue his winning streak with brand new single Instruction.
Jax’s music is rooted in the hip hop, grime and house music he was surrounded by in his teenage years. Alestorm’s Fucked With An Anchor has remained at #1 on the Spotify Viral chart this week. Liam Gallagher is at #3 with new solo single Wall of Glass, following his performance at the One Love Manchester benefit concert earlier this month. Gallagher made a surprise appearance alongside the likes of Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Usher and more.
Sitting at the #1 spot on the Shazam Movers chart, as well as being the #1 most added to radio this week, is David Guetta’s new single 2U ft. Justin Bieber, while Liam Payne has remained at the #1 spot for the second week in a row on the Shazam Future Hits chart with Strip That Down ft. Quavo.

While Peking Duk’s track Stranger ft. Elliphant has remained at #4 in the Australian Hot 100 for its second consecutive week, the Aussie duo’s track Fake Magic ft. AlunaGeorge has moved to the #1 spot, up from #5 last week, and is sitting at #2 on the Alternative Hot 100 chart.
Winston Surfshirt’s Ali D has lost the #1 spot on the Alternative Hot 100 chart this week to Meg Mac, but is currently at the top of the triple j Hit List. The Manly R&B group shouldn’t take it too hard, though, as she’s dominating everywhere. Blood is the first single to come from Melbourne’s City Calm Down since the release of their acclaimed debut album In A Restless House (2015).
Inspired by a standoff that vocalist and lyricist Jack Bourke had with a former employer over taking time off for touring, Blood sees City Calm Down come storming back into the spotlight with a sound that builds on all of the elements for which the band have become so well loved.
City Calm Down are touring nationally this August and September.
