    ARCor

    A

Draws an arc. The default method ofdrawing arcs is selecting three points(so-called "3 point arc"), which are thetwo endpoints of the arc and someother point along its locus. Othermethods of drawing an arc can bespecified by three letters, such asSEA, which means "Start Point, End

    Point, and Included Angle."

A Included angleC Center point of arcD Direction angle of a line tangent to thearcE Endpoint of arcL Length of chord passing thru bothendpoints of the arcR RadiusS Start point of arc

uses the end of the last line or arc as thestart point for the arc

AREA Computes the area of any shape byselecting points at the corners of theshape, or by selecting a circle orpolyline after typing or picking the "E"option

    A sets "Add" mode

S sets "Subtract" modeE computes area of selected circle orpolyline

ARRAY Makes multiple copies of selectedobjects in a rectangular (parallel withthe snap rotation) or circular pattern

R rectangular array typeP "polar" array type in circular pattern, youmust indicate number of items and angle tofill, and whether the objects get rotated withthe angleC "circular" array type in a circular pattern, you must indicate angle between items, angle to fill, and whether objects get rotatedwith the angle

    COLORor COLOUR

Sets the current color for subsequentlydrawn objects (objects drawn after thecommand is invoked). The defaultcurrent color is a so-called "logical"color called "BYLAYER" which meansthat the color of the object drawn will

be the color which the current layerhas been set to.

can be transparent sets currentcolor to color numberentered sets current colorto color name enteredBYBLOCK sets floatingentity color

BYLAYER sets currentcolor to whatever color isassigned to the currentlayer

COMPILE Compiles shape and font files Morethan likely, you will never use this

command, unless you are creatingyour own letter design or are creating"shapes" to be used as commonlyused symbols in the drawing. Theseare not typically used in architecturaldrawings

CONFIG Displays options to allow you toreconfigure the video display, digitizer, plotter, and operating parameters. You should not have to use thiscommand, since the configuration of

DELAY This command is used with SCRIPTfiles. It will delay the execution of thenext command for the time inmilliseconds specified after the DELAYcommand.

    can be transparent

DIM Takes you out of the drawing editor and into the semi-automaticdimensioning program built intoAutoCAD. Will display a Dim: prompton the command prompt line. To getback to the drawing editor and theCommand: prompt, type the key.

DIM1 Same as above, but only allows onedimensioning command to be used, and then takes you automatically back

to the drawing editor and theCommand: prompt.

    DIMALIGNED

Dimensioning sub-command:Draws a linear dimension with

the dimension line parallel to the

    selected dimension origin points.

  • 8/7/2019 AutoCAD 2000 Commands1111

    7/40

This lets you align a dimensionwith an angled line that is not

    either exactly horizontal or

    vertical.

    DIMANGULAR

Dimensioning sub-command:Draws an arc and calculates theangle between two non-parallel

lines, and draws the text and

    arrowheads. Arrowheads are the

standard AutoCAD filledtriangles, regardless of your

    defined Arrow Block.

    DIMBASELINE

    Dimensioning sub-command:Continues a linear dimension

    from the baseline (the so-called

"first extension line") of theprevious or selected dimension.

This is not frequently used in

architectural dimensions. Thespacing between each dimension

    line is controlled by the

    AutoCAD variable DIMDLI

("Dimension Line Increment"),which you should set at 0

normally, but if you use the

baseline command, you shouldreset to 1/8".

    DIMCENTER

Dimensioning sub-command:Draws a pair of crossed lines at

the center of a circle or arc on the

    current layer

    DIMCONTINUE

    Dimensioning sub-command:Continues a linear dimension

from the second extension line ofthe previous or selected

dimension. It is used to create a

    so-called "string" of dimensions.

  • 8/7/2019 AutoCAD 2000 Commands1111

    8/40

This is used quite a bit inarchitectural drawings.

    DIMDIAMETER

Dimensioning sub-command:Draws a dimension through the

center of a circle or arc,

calculating the diameter, withone of the arrow heads located at

the point on the circle or arc

    which is picked.

    DIMEXIT

    Dimensioning sub-command:Exits the dimensioning program

and returns from the Dim:prompt to the normal Command:

    prompt

    DIMHOMETEXT

Dimensioning sub-command:Restores the text of an associative

    dimension to its default (home)

location if you have moved it.

    DIM

    HORIZONTAL

    Dimensioning sub-command:Draws a horizontal linear

    dimension line

    DIMLEADER

Dimensioning sub-command:Draws an a line or series of lines

with an arrow head (commonlycalled a "leader") to point to an

object to notate it. This command

will also prompt you for the note

at the end of the leader line, but itwill allow only one line of text.

The most useful method of usingthis command is to simply draw

leaders between the object to be

notated and text that you create

    with the DTEXT command.

  • 8/7/2019 AutoCAD 2000 Commands1111

    9/40

    DIMNEWTEXT

Dimensioning sub-command:Permits changing text of an

    associative dimension without

    exploding it. However, once the

text has been changed, thedimension will no longer be

    associative.

    DIMOBLIQUE

Dimensioning sub-command:Adjusts the obliquing angle of a

linear associative dimensionsextension lines. Useful in

    dimensioning isometric drawings.

    DIMORDINATE

    Dimensioning sub-command:Draws the X and Y coordinates

within a box with a leader line

attached to the point, for aselected point. Automatically

    calculates the coordinates.

    DIMOVERRIDE

    Dimensioning sub-command:Overrides the dimension variable

    settings on a selected dimension.

    DIMRADIUS

Dimensioning sub-command:Draws the radius dimension of an

arc or circle from the center to

the point on its locus where thearc or circle was selected.

    DIMREDRAW

Dimensioning sub-command:Redraws the viewport, just like

    the regular REDRAW command.

    DIMRESTORE

Dimensioning sub-command:Makes a dimension style current

    DIM Dimensioning sub-command:

  • 8/7/2019 AutoCAD 2000 Commands1111

    10/40

ROTATE Draws a linear dimension withthe distance measured origin

    points, but with the actual

dimension line set at a different

    angle.

    DIMSAVE

Dimensioning sub-command:Saves the currently set dimension

    variables under a dimension style

    name for future retrieval through

    the RESTORE command.

    DIMSTATUS

Dimensioning sub-command:Lists all dimension variables withtheir current status.

    DIMSTYLE

Dimensioning sub-command:Switches to a new Text Style forall future dimensions.

    DIMTEDIT

Dimensioning sub-command:Allows moving text in associative

dimensions without having toexplode the dimensions.

    DIMTROTATE

Dimensioning sub-command:Allows rotation of the text of

    several associative dimensions at

    once.

    DIMUNDO

Dimensioning sub-command:Undoes any changes made by themost recent dimensioning

    command.

    DIMUPDATE

    Dimensioning sub-command:Changes selected associative

    dimensions to use the current

dimension variables, the currenttext style, and the current units

    setting.

OOPS restores erased entities, or entitiesmade into a Block

    OPEN Opens an existing drawing

ORTHO Constrains drawing so that only linesaligned with the grid can be drawn --usually means only horizontal orvertical lines, however, if thecrosshairs are rotated through the"Snap" "Rotate" command sequence, the lines drawn are constrained to

being parallel with the crosshairrotation. Constraint can be overriddenby snapping to a point or by enteringexact coordinates for endpoints.
