Introduction

Welcome to Autodesk University 2010.

As the world economy continues to recover, it’s my pleasure to welcome you to Autodesk University 2010.

As companies shift their focus from survival and cost-cutting back to innovation and competitive advantage, now is the perfect time to improve your knowledge, build your skills, and expand your network—and there’s no better place to do that than at Autodesk University.

Here are some highlights of this year’s AU:• Choose from hundreds of classes, labs, and lectures designed to help you take your skills to the

next level and boost your productivity.• Explore the latest trends and technologies, from design computation to infinite computing.• Meet and talk with colleagues, peers, industry leaders, and Autodesk staff from around the

world in an environment ideal for sharing best practices.• Listen to an exciting group of speakers in the AU General Session, including Jeff Kowalski,

Autodesk chief technology officer, talking about infinite computing and innovation.• Take home new professional expertise that can benefit your company and your career.

And the AU experience doesn’t end when the conference does because you can access AU online for learning and networking 24/7/365.

On a personal note, Autodesk University is one of my favorite events of the year: it’s the perfect opportunity for me to talk with customers from all over the world about their projects, their use of Autodesk tools, and the issues they face in their day-to-day work.

Thanks for joining us at Autodesk University 2010.

Carl Bass President and Chief Executive Officer Autodesk, Inc.

We also recognize that our own environmental performance is important to long-term business success. We aim to model sus-tainability best practices across our business and operations and work with our business partners to do the same. 1:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m. South Convention Center, Level 3, South Seas E

This new conference will focus on managers of design technol-ogy services. If you are responsible for keeping your design enterprise working smoothly, controlling overhead, and motivating staff, you will benefit from the range of relevant topics presented during this half-day conference.

Content for the conference will focus on the business issues that managers face—from the impact of a new release on their systems and teams to best practices and many other issues in between. Special focus will be on building information modeling (BIM). Emphasis will be placed on group discussions with other managers in collaborative environments that foster sharing, problem solving, and learning. Class space is limited, and you must be a manager of design technology services to participate.

ADN DevLab at AU

Tuesday, November 30

9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. South Convention Center, Level 2, Lagoon C

For the first time this year, we are extending the ADN Conference with an optional DevLab day. Get help and advice on implementing a specific feature in your application, receive general application design advice, or further discuss the topics presented in the ADN Developer Conference.

Entry Requirements: The ADN DevLab event requires either a full Autodesk University pass or our specially priced ADN one-day AU pass. Come and go as you please between DevLab and AU classes. The ADN one-day AU pass gives you access to all of Tuesday’s AU events—keynotes, AU classes and labs, the Exhibit Hall, and breakfast, lunch, and evening reception.

Highlights & Special Events8

AU 2010 conference badges must be worn at all times to gain entry and maintain access to the conference and exhibition venues.

Page 12: Autodesk University 2010: Show Guide

Classes, hands-on labs, PowerTracks, and unconference sessions form the learning core of Autodesk University. All of these sessions as well as industry keynotes require preregistration, but drop-ins are allowed when room is available. The General Session is open to all without preregistration.

FacultyThe AU faculty includes top instructors, authors, programmers, and experts working in all key industries. Autodesk welcomes and thanks these dedicated professionals who help AU attendees get the most from their investments in Autodesk technologies.

Class Surveys Available OnlineAfter each class, complete a class survey online at a Survey Kiosk. This year the kiosks are conveniently located in the foyers outside the classrooms. Each completed survey enters you in that day’s drawing for a free AU 2011 all-inclusive conference pass. Several winners are announced each day.

Are You Ready?

BIM software investmentsand the development ofinternal collaborative BIMprocedures rate as the toptwo areas of investment forfirms deploying BIM.*

Half of the AEC industry is using BIM - up 75% over the last 2 years.*

Government agencies and owners are now specifying Building Information Models in project deliverables. This drivesAE firms and General Contractors to demand that consultants and trade contractors operate in an integrated, collaborative project environment.

If you haven’t already, you need to prepare your organization for BIM.

Delivering on BIM specifications not only requires innovative technology but modern workflows as well.Understanding your modeling capabilities and matching the required level of detail needed to the owner/agencyexpectations is critical for success. Considerations include:

• 3-D modeling for visualization and clash detection.• 4-D/5-D modeling for scheduling and cost estimation.• 6-D modeling for on-going lifecycle management.

Traditional design-bid-build workflows must also be changed in order to enforce new modeling practices, takeadvantage of BIM technology and deliver the right models.

See how the Pinnacle Series™ can help your firm deploy BIM.
