Automatic liquid transfer saves production time
Solar powered delivery to oil & gas applications
The Jabsco VeraFLEX Pump
Cart from Xylem is aimed at craft
brewers and microbreweries. The
pump can be used to automate the
transfer of beer and other liquids,
re-circulate beer during the fermen-
tation cycle and carry out high-
pressure line and tank cleaning.

Chemical metering pump manu-
facturer, Neptune Chemical Pump
Co., has launched its Solar D Series
chemical injection pump. The Solar
D pump was developed as part of
a joint engineering eff ort with
Ferguson Beauregard, a sister
company of Neptune’s within the
Dover Corporation.
The Solar D is a solar-powered
chemical injection pump that
feeds production chemicals into
remote oil and gas wells where
electrical power is often unavail-
able. The pump’s method of oper-
ation includes maximum chemical
containment, precise and
consistent chemical-injection rates
at pressures up to 1,200 psi (83
bar). The manufacturers say that
dosing rates (from 0 to 45 gallons
per day) translate into increased
production with a corresponding
reduction in chemical expenses.
Additionally, the Solar D features a
seal-less diaphragm technology
that eliminates chemical leaks
while off ering chemical compati-
bility. Intelligent controls are

pass through the pump without
emulsifying or changing consist-
ency. This ability can save produc-
tion time during spin fermentation
of high-gravity beers, as the speed
of the pump can be turned down
to 250 rpm, enabling beer to be
re-circulated gently and oxygen
injected during the fermentation
cycle. Beer reaches its fi nal gravity
in six days, compared to 12–14
days using conventional methods.
Other uses of the VeraFlex Pump
Cart include transferring beer and
other liquids, a task which is
generally carried out manu-
ally. More viscous ingredients used
in craft-manufactured high-quality
beers, cider and microbrews, such
as honey and molasses, can also
be transferred from place to place
using the pump. As it is capable of
delivering up to 60 GPM, Xylem
claims that it gives higher pressure
clean-in-place (CIP) than centrif-
ugal pumps for both line and tank
cleaning.

brings together companies from
the pharmaceutical and biotech
industries and will be held in at
the Jacob K. Javits Convention
Center in New York, NY, USA, from
April 23-25.
Wilden, which has developed the
Sanifl o hygienic series metal AODD
pump designed for use in the
hygienic/sanitary production of
pharmaceuticals, will be at booth
2463.
The pumps incorporate a straight
fl ow-through design and the
ability to handle large solids.
Sanifl o pumps are available with
specialized air distribution systems,
such as the Pro-Flo X air-distribu-
tion system (ADS), with its Effi -
ciency Management System (EMS).
The EMS allows each pump to be
fi nely tuned by adjusting the air
volume at the pump inlet with a
variable control dial.
Sanifl o pumps are shear-sensitive,
self-priming, and dry-run and
deadhead capable, with various
surface fi nishes. The pumps also
off er either clean-in-place (CIP) or
clean-out-of-place (COP) sanitation.
Wilden Sanifl o pumps currently
meet or exceed the regulatory
standards that have been estab-
lished by the FDA, USDA, 3A,
EHEDG and ATEX. Sanifl o Hygienic
Series Metal pumps are available
in four sizes from 25 mm (1 in) to
76 mm (3 in), and feature fl ow
rates to 918 L/min (243 gpm) and
can handle solids to 76 mm (3 in).
These pumps are off ered in 316 L
stainless steel. A variety of connec-
tion options are available such as
DIN clamp, SMS and Tri-Clamp
style to meet specifi c
requirements.
