In the last week of term, we had a talent show called Geoffrey Field’s Got Talent. You could do anything you liked, e .g. singing, dancing, boxing, poems, raps, gymnastics, ka- rate and lots more. Children signed up from all year groups and we had a variety of acts. We had auditions two weeks before the fi- nal and then semi-finals in Upper and Lower school. In the semi-finals, the contestants had to perform in front of about 150 chil- dren and 5 teachers! In each semi-final, there were about 12 acts. From these 12 acts, 4 were chosen (so there were 8 acts in the final—2 from each year group). We had the final on Tuesday 18th October and everyone was watching: all the teachers, the children that are here and the judges (Mr. Clare and Miss Bunker). The finalists performed on Tuesday and we found out the winners on Wednesday 19th October. The contestants only had three minutes (or less if they wanted) to perform their act. It was run by Miss Fincken and Mrs Lancas- ter and they did a really good job. Mrs Lan- caster introduced all the contestants in the final. All of the children in the audience were really supportive and very kind—it takes a lot of bravery to perform in front of hundreds of children and adults! Lots of children took part in the auditions but by the final, we had 8 acts. These were singers, dancers, gymnasts, comedians and drummers. In the last week of term, we had a talent

show called Geoffrey Field’s Got Talent.

You could do anything you liked, e .g. singing,

dancing, boxing, poems, raps, gymnastics, ka-

rate and lots more. Children signed up from

all year groups and we had a variety of acts.

We had auditions two weeks before the fi-

nal and then semi-finals in Upper and Lower

school. In the semi-finals, the contestants

had to perform in front of about 150 chil-

dren and 5 teachers! In each semi-final,

there were about 12 acts. From these 12

acts, 4 were chosen (so there were 8 acts in

the final—2 from each year group).

We had the final on Tuesday 18th October

and everyone was watching: all the teachers,

the children that are here and the judges

(Mr. Clare and Miss Bunker). The finalists

performed on Tuesday and we found out the

winners on Wednesday 19th October.

The contestants only had three minutes (or

less if they wanted) to perform their act.

It was run by Miss Fincken and Mrs Lancas-

ter and they did a really good job. Mrs Lan-

caster introduced all the contestants in the

final. All of the children in the audience

were really supportive and very kind—it

takes a lot of bravery to perform in front of

hundreds of children and adults!

Lots of children took part in the auditions

but by the final, we had 8 acts. These were

singers, dancers, gymnasts, comedians and

drummers. They were all absolutely amazing

but there had to be winners!

Third place: Jasmine (singing) and Megan

and Eva (gymnastics)

Second place: Gabriel and David (drumming)

First place: Alana and Frankie (singing)

Well done to everybody who took part!

Spirited Art Spirited Art is where we painted what we imagined, for example

a scorpion or a hen. In class, we looked at the idea of ‘Rainbow

Nation’ and we were given a task to paint or draw a picture of

what it would like if we had a Rainbow Nation. I did a black back-

ground and went over the black with red to make a rainbow. Be-

fore we did that though, we talked about what ‘Rainbow Nation’

meant. Some people thought that it meant everything would be

like a rainbow and some people thought it had a deeper mean-

ing. They thought that it meant that the UK is multi-cultured and

has lots of people with a variety of skin colours.

We each created a response to Rainbow Nation and then we had a

gallery in the hall after school to show our parents and carers the

things that we’d come up with. Year 5 children served biscuits and

squash and music played in the background.

This picture is somebody’s art. Have they painted what you imag-

ined?

What piece of art do you like the most?

ROALD DAHL DAY!

Roald Dahl Day is a day where we celebrated read-

ing and how much we enjoy it by looking at the

books written by Roald Dahl. He wrote books for

children and you should read them! Here are two

books that you might like...

Matilda was the most famous book written by Roald

Dahl. Matilda had magic powers where she could

move things when her finger was pointing at it or

her eyes were looking at it but actually her brain

was the magical power. She lived with her horrible

mum and dad, but at the end of the story Matilda

lived with the nicest teacher ever: Miss Honey!

In the BFG, a girl is kidnapped from human

world into Giant world. Her name is Sophie

and she is scared when she’s in the hands of

a giant. The giant’s name is called BFG

(standing for Big Friendly Giant). As you can

see, the giant is friendly. The two of them

have lots of adventures together and have

loads of battles with unfriendly giants.

If you read any Roald Dahl books and like

them, feel free to send a review to the news-

paper and we might print it!

Send your work to the newspaper

club (in Miss Clark’s room) and

it might get published in next

term’s paper!

Gardening competition!

In the whole school Mr. Fox had a challenge for

everyone. He wanted us to grow as many FRUIT

AND VEG as we could.

Everyone in the school was

involved in the competi-

tion. We went out as clas-

ses and individually to get

our allotments ready, to

plant the seeds and then to

take care of them as they

grew.

Where was it based?

The garden was just outside yellow area, we

would have started in July but because we had

a lot to do before the competition, that is why

we had to start in May. Why did we do the com-

petition? We had to do the competition to see

how many fruit and veg we could grow in the

whole school.

What fruit and veg did we grow?

We grew lots of types of veg: carrots, lettuce,

green beans, tomatoes, courgette, cabbages

and any other veg that you can think of.

The fruit that we grew were cherries, golden

berries, strawberries and raspberries.

Who were the winners and the Judges?

The judges were: Scott (a year three boy but

now in year 4) and a professional gardener.

There were badges to show you if your class’

fruit and veg either came in first, second or

third. All of them looked like they were good to

eat or cook.

There were individual prizes for each and every

fruit and veg even if your fruit or veg didn’t get

a badge.

The winning team last year in year three were

Mrs Pratley’s class.

Last summer, Green Park Village held a competition to name their

statue of a swan. The competition was open to the whole school and

lots of children from Geoffrey Field Junior took part. It was open to

everyone though, so it wasn’t just our school!

The brass swan is made to look like it is taking flight. Eoghan

Herriott (9), who was in Year 4 at the time, won the name the swan

competition by christening the statue Hans. The prize was an iPad

mini which was presented to Eoghan in Green Park Village. Haribo

sweets were also given to every one else who entered.

Name the Swan Competition!

Our amazing pumpkin!

We grew great

tomatoes!

Why don’t

mummies have

hobbies?

Because

they’re too

wrapped up in

their work!

A few weeks ago, Mr. Clare handed in a

very old newspaper. It was older than

him. It was when Mr. Ben Payton was

headmaster! We’ll give you a sneak

peek of it.

How old is it? Write your answer

down with days months and years,

and you might find yourself with a

big box of chocolates.

“ Everyone is clever enough to win,”

said Quan , a reporter (9). “If was

competing, I would be happy with the

prize.”

So put your thinking cap on and

write down your answers!

Olympics and the Paralympics

What are the Paralympics and the Olympics?

The Paralympics and the Olympics are when peo-

ple come from different country to come to play

games: Tennis, Football , Hockey, Swimming and

Racing .

Which countries go to the games?

Algeria, Brazil, China, France, Ghana, Italy and

many others. In fact, 207

countries took part this

year!

What’s interesting about the Paralympics?

People come and try their best to get a medal. If

they don’t win a medal, they come back in 4 years

time to try again. It’s amazing because people

can swim and race and all sorts even though they

are disabled and it’s even harder for them to

compete. One of the best swimmers in the Para-

lympics is Ellie Simmonds. She’s great because

when she was little, she asked her mum how old

you had to be to swim and her mum told her that

you can be any age but you have to know how to

swim. So she took swimming lessons and went to

lots of swimming places to do racing and that’s

how she got into the Paralympics. She has won 2

gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze. She’s only 22

years old. Vinicus and Tom were the mascots for the

Olympics and Paralympics this year.

POETRY COMPETITION!

Recently, our school entered a poetry competition in which we

achieved first place in the Performed Poetry Competition, and second

place in the written poetry competition.

6-8 schools entered including GFJS, Christ the

King and Whitley Park . The judges were a WEC

staff , a university lecturer and a famous poet.

It happened at the end of last year and it was

put on to encourage to speak in public and to

also help them to explore poetry in a creative

way.

The winning team in the Performance Poetry

Competition were Quan, Kuba, Isha, Ella M and

Hasan . Annabelle T came second in the written

poetry competition.

The competition was very successful and there

are plans to do it again next year. If you can’t

wait to get started, there is also a Public Speak-

ing competition you could get involved with!
