Since 1869 Begg Scotland have been making luxurious woven accessories in the beautiful west coast of Scotland. Today the tradition continues, Begg Scotland blends vintage and modern – time-honoured craft with new design inspiration – to create a gorgeous new collection of scarves, stoles and interior throws for Autumn Winter 2011 using only the purest and most luxurious natural fi bres.

Begg knows how to do checks! From its origins in the nineteen century, crafting hand-woven shawls in the Scottish town of Paisley, Begg have been creating stunning check patterns in beautiful fabrics.

Inspired by the great outdoors and stunning Scottish landscapes, Begg Scotland re-invents this tradition for the Autumn Winter 2011 collection, tapping into a wealth of heritage whilst exploring modern day themes as inspiration for new and inspiring check and tartan designs; exploring the idea of naturally occurring check patterns in rural and urban landscapes and adapting these into modern-day designs. Concrete paving, granite squares and yellow sandstone brick from urban settings inspire understated checks in lightweight blends perfect for city dwellers. While gnarled tree bark, criss-crossing twigs, cracked mud and wooden palings inspire diff used and softened naturalistic checks with a rural twist.

Natural earth elements and tile patterns inspire a geometry of design. Th e pleasing regularity of repeating tiled motifs arranged in chequerboard formation. Windowpane patterns repeating in perfect symmetry. Timeless gingham patterns in elegant lightweight cashmere and cashmere blends. Polished and swept smooth ceramic fl oor tiles inspire tempting jacquard fl oral patterns in elegant cashmere. Scattered mosaic patterns and crackled-glazed crazy paving eff ects inspired by earthenware, sandstone and sun-soaked quarry tiles. Landscape views of fi elds, trees and fl ora mixed with historic geology create a new perspective in the collection. Wide open spaces and sweeping vistas of rolling hills inspire innovative pictorial designs and naturalistic motifs. Happened-upon hedgerow cow parsley and wild meadow fl owers. A dissected limestone study reminiscent of a fi eld and tree cross-section. Museum studies of minerals and rock formations. Clusters of crystalline shapes and striated sediment. Mica and fools-gold embedded into sparkling granite. Radiating prisms of calcite. Bubbles of beryl and frosted fossilised marble inspire abstract geometric pattern and form.

Th e unique Begg Nuance uses the fi nest 100% cashmere yarn, delicately blended from strands of fi bre to create a single yarn that gently varies in tone to create a subtle gradation of shade in perfect colour harmony throughout the cloth. New for Autumn Winter 2011 is the beautiful Moonlight colourway. Dusky blue-grey diff uses into pale grey and silver before melting into a soft moonlit pale yellow.
