Autumn Term 2016 Our First
Week/Week back at Pre-School
Here are just a few of the activities that we did on the first day of term. We had our
home corner, painting, musical instruments, peppa pig and our new pirate ship. We had
snack with Kerry too
Our pirate ship. We are promoting our physical development and the ability to take risks on the pirate ship.
There is always an adult close by to help if we need it but we love
to explore our different movements and using our
imagination.
Here you can see us mark making in a variety of ways, we had paint with brushes, sponges and also the paint
pens. We experimented with different colours and as you can see, did these
activities both indoors and out.
As you can see, the majority of painters indoors
was girls. Boys tend to access creative activities more in our outside area.
They love to use large movements and be active rather than sitting at a
table, that’s why we make sure we have lots of things
like the easel and large pieces of paper with pens,
rollers and paints outdoors.
Here you can see the playdough table. At the beginning of the week we had playdough with rolling pins and cutters. On
Tuesday we had some feathers and sticks. Wednesday. We had lots of cutters and tools and on Thursday and Friday we had the
pots and pans. The items that we used with the playdough changed because the children chose what they wanted to use. Adults also sometimes add things to extend the activity and
develop the children’s learning and interest further. By encouraging the children to make choices about what they use,
we are enforcing the Fundamental British Values. Making choices promotes democracy and individual liberty.
Our new playhouse As you can see, our new
playhouse has a set of steps. We absolutely love it!
We not only get to use our imaginations whilst playing in the house but we also get to practice physical skills too. We also have to think about
staying safe in the house because of the steps,
therefore, only 3 children are allowed on the loft at any one
time, we are not allowed to push. We have been learning the
rules to help us stay safe. This is part of the British
Values Rule of Law.
Sand Pit! Did you know that we can learn lots of new skills in the sand? We can learn to count by counting the number of scoops of sand it takes to fill the bucket. Our physical development is
promoted by squatting, crouching and using our arm movements. We develop creativity by using our imaginations. Learn about the world and talk about significant events such as holidays, which promotes communication, personal socials & emotional development and our understanding of the world. You may be
surprised at how much we can learn from ‘just playing’.
Our pictures are updated on our website regularly. Don’t forget to take a look at

We will also update your children’s profile regularly. You will receive an email as soon as an observation is uploaded. If you haven’t already
done so, don’t forget to follow the link that will have been sent to your email from Tapestry.
