HEADLINES

Welcome back after our half term. We ended half term with a terrific House

Song Competition, with everyone from Year 3-8 taking part. Well done to eve-

ryone for all your hard work – it is a great community event. The sports residen-

tial trip to Holland was a great success with pupils enjoying top level coaching

and facilities. I hope you enjoyed the Blog – thank you also to Tom Palmer for

accompanying the trip.

This week Year 6 pupils spent a day “experiencing” all Year 7 and 8 has to of-

fer, including racing our electric car, outdoor education and complicated

science experiments. Thank you to all our parents who attended and to Ms

Hyde for her support.

Our rehearsals for ‘Mary Poppins’ are well on their way, further information concerning tickets, performances

and routines for the event can be found in the newsletter.

Year 7 & 8 marked Remembrance today with a poignant assembly. Thank you to the many parents for attend-

ing today’s event.

As I write our U11A team are taking part at the IAPS Hockey Tournament at Eastbourne College. Good luck girls!

We will be taking part in Children in Need next Friday with an Assembly. Children are invited to wear something

spotty to supplement their uniform for a £1 donation.

Mr Stacey is now on paternity leave, congratulations on the birth of Fred and Ralph.

We are delighted to announce that Victoria Robinson will be joining us in January as our new Kindergarten

teacher. Mrs Robinson has considerable teaching experience both in London and more locally.

Year 7 are selling raffle tickets for their Children in Need chocolate raffle. Tickets are 20p each or 6 for £1.

They will begin selling tickets from Friday 8th November at break times and during registration.

So bring your money in!! The correct change would be gratefully appreciated.

There are lots of chocolate prizes – big and small!!!

planet. One of the problems is something Rose Hill School has been tackling and that is plastic, especially

MARY POPPINS YEARS 3, 4 & 5

This year’s Junior Production of Mary Poppins will be held on Thursday 28 November & Friday 29 November

2019.

There is no charge for tickets, but the maximum total allocation is five tickets per family. This could be on

one night, or split across both nights.

We will try to accommodate all requests, but the initial allocations will be made on a first come, first served

basis. If you would like to request an extra allocation of tickets, please email me directly

on tanya.harris@rosehillschool.co.uk. However, we are unable to make any guarantees for further tickets.

The deadline for ticket requests is Friday 22 November and tickets will be distributed in the week

of November 25.

Performances start at 7.00pm and the show will last for approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. Refreshments will

be served in the Common Room from 6.15pm. Doors will open at 6.45pm.

The children can be collected from 8.30pm in the Quad.

A Parentmail will be sent out next week confirming arrangements for what time the children should be

back in school on the evenings of the performances.

Costumes

Following on from the ParentMail regarding costumes, please can Year 3 & 4 costumes be in school for

Monday 18 November, clearly named and in a named carrier bag.

MARY POPPINS PROGRAMME COVER Your task is to create the programme cover and ticket design,

for the production of Mary Poppins on November 28th & 29th at

7:00pm.

Entries must be submitted to your form tutor by Wednesday No-

vember 20th and will cost £1. You can enter as many designs as

you wish.

Your entry must include:

The name, dates and time of the show

Bright, bold images

Use of any medium to create your design except for pencil

crayons (paint, collage, felt tip pens etc.)

During the half-term break 45 Rose Hill School pupils and staff

travelled to Eindhoven in Holland as part of the school’s sports

tour. During the trip the boys were lucky enough to train with

Dutch Giants PSV Eindhoven, whilst the girls trained with the

Dutch National Hockey Champions Oranje-Rood.

When we arrived at PSV we were met by our coaches, who di-

rected us to our changing room. This involved walking through

the PSV training facility where we were surrounded by over 10 3G

pitches. The boys were put through their paces by the coaches

with the focus of the session being about moving the ball quickly

in order to confuse and outwit the opposition.

At Orange-Rood the girls worked on their stick work, with a focus

on the speed and accuracy of the pass. Small sided games also

encouraged the girls to move the ball quickly in order to make it

harder for the defence to set themselves.

Having worked on these elements we got the opportunity to see

the professionals demonstrate these principles at the highest lev-

el. Before lunch we watched Den Bosch v Bloememdall. Den

Bosch are currently top of the league and demonstrated their

dominance winning the game 3-0. The pupils were excited any

time a short corner was awarded and were out of their seat

dancing to the accompanying music that played each time.

We then headed to the De Kuip stadium to watch Feyenoord

take on Heracles. Entering the stadium slightly later than kick off,

we missed the home team score! However the atmosphere was

electric. It’s always exciting watching an evening game under

the lights and the pupils took Feyenoord to their hearts and

cheered the home side on. Unfortunately Heracles equalised and

the game finished 1-1.

We headed to Eftling theme park on day 3. The weather was

good to us and the only soakings experienced, came from the

rides the pupils chose. We have spent about 5 hours at the

theme park where the pupils we thrown side to side, up and

down as well as round and upside down. Words such as

‘amazing’, ‘insane’, ‘quality’ and ‘mental’ were all used to de-

scribe the rides we have been on. The children also used the

theme park as an opportunity to partake in some retail therapy. I

can only apologies if you receive a theme park tea towel, spoon

or toilet brush when we get back! Sweets seemed to be the most

popular purchase, with one pupil clutching at straws by asking

“Does an apple flavoured sweet count as one of your ‘5 a day’?

After our usual breakfast we headed to the Philips Stadium. A

51,000 capacity ground set in the middle of Eindhoven and

home of the mighty PSV. We were greeted at the entrance and

all given VIP passes before our tour. The main entrance to the

stadium is emblazoned with the words ‘EENDRACHT MAAKT

MACHT’ which translates to ‘Together we are strong’. This sums

up everything we promote in PE and Sport at Rose Hill, with

teamwork being extremely important to us all. The tour contin-

ued and the pupils visited both the home and away dressing

rooms, media room, players tunnel, dug-out and directors box.

We were then treated to a drink, whilst sitting and looking out

onto the pitch. Rehydrated we headed for some retail therapy.

The shop stocked everything you can imagine with a PSV logo

added to it. Based on the amount of bags and merchandise

that was brought onto the coach we have some pretty avid

PSV fans. I fear a number of parents and siblings may also be

PSV fans in the coming days.

We then again went our separate ways as we headed to our

respective training grounds. The boys were again at PSV and

had lunch with other members of the youth team in their cafe.

The session focused on technical skills and dribbling the ball with

different parts of the foot. The coaches reinforced the im-

portance of the ‘first touch’. The common theme throughout

the week has been to find the ‘simple solution’ and not to fa-

vour personal performance over team success. The session end-

ed with a tournament. We were also

lucky to see a number of the first

team leaving training.

The girls spent the afternoon at

Oranje-Rood where they were lucky

enough to be coached by the 1st

Team coach. They spent their ses-

sion looking at dynamic play and

the importance of fast attacking.

The coach was very envious of Mrs

Wren, commenting that he would

be so happy if his girls showed half

the focus, attention and desire to

learn as the Rose Hill girls did.

The early evening sunset played host

to our matches with us all playing

local Dutch club teams. The stand-

ard of sides has varied and we have

experienced both success and defeat. The tour was never about ‘winning’ but the opportunity to devel-

op different sporting and social skills. Each game has begun and ended with handshakes.

Despite Brexit, Anglo-Dutch relations have been strong this week and the pupils have shared great mo-

ments with the opposition, playing together, singing together and even comparing favourite Harry Potter

characters.
