KNOW-HOW

 AVALANCHE EQUIPMENT

Mammut has been working intensively on the topic of “safety in themountains” for years and is doing everything in its power to reduce therisks associated with mountain sports. To promote this aim, we aredeveloping new products that set milestones in terms of innovation andsafety. We also support prevention and training projects around theworld. And, under the “Mammut Safety” banner, Mammut has com-

mitted to increasing the safety of snow sports by means of continuousimprovements in equipment, specific training and transmission ofknowledge.

Mammut is now offering all snow sports enthusiasts the highest safetystandards with an avalanche transceiver, a probe, a shovel and anavalanche airbag. In an emergency situation, the combination of thesefour pieces of safety equipment allows fast and efficient location andrescue.

The right equipment and improved exper tise will bring you even more

skiing pleasure!

Have fun and stay safe.

Easy operation thanks to a fully graphic display and clear user navi-gation with acoustic support. The reverse direction function prevents

180° search errors while a “mark” function makes it easy to recordfound buried subjects.

Location is extremely fast and accurate thanks to a 360° display andthree antennas for easy fine searching. Manual scrolling guaranteesan overview of distance, direction and the number of buried subjectsin the relevant list. Fast, accurate marking for multiple buried sub- jects saves you time.

Speed is the most important survival factor in the event of burial!

Real-time direction display, digital signal processing in the eventof multiple buried subjects, intelligent group test and an addition-al communication channel (W-Link) for better search results alsoincrease efficiency.

INTELLIGENT SEARCH

Digital signal processing (DSP)

Rapid signal recognition and long digital range with direction anddistance display as well as 457 kHz and W-Link signal patternrecognition for quick and reliable recording of multiple buried sub- jects in a list.

Multiple buried subjectsPattern recognition is used to record buried subjects in a list and re-cord them as found by means of a marking function. This means thatmultiple buried subjects can be located without having to use special

search methods.

Analog mode Analog mode is for resolving challenging search problems usingmicro search strips, the 3-circle method and circular fine search-ing. The width of the search strip can be increased to 80 m inanalog mode and the receiver sensitivity can be adjusted manually.Earphones can be par ticularly useful for analog searching.

Rescue-SEND This mode is used by all rescuers who are involved in a rescue butnot personally carrying out a transceiver search. In this mode, the457 kHz signal is temporarily switched of f to avoid interfering withthe search. In the event of burial by a secondary avalanche, themotion sensor detects what are now only very slight movementsby the rescuer and automatically switches the transmitter back onafter four minutes, allowing the buried rescuer to be located using atransceiver.

Vital data A highly sensitive motion sensor measures even the most subtlemotions of the body (e.g. those caused by heart and lung activity). Each movement is interpreted as a sign of life and displayed, bymeans of W-Link, as an "increased chance of survival" message inthe form of a heart icon in the list of buried subjects on the searchingdevice.

Energy source The devices in the Barryvox® family can be operated using differentbattery types (alkaline / lithium). In comparison with alkaline batteries, lithium batteries offer longer operating times in low temperatures anddo not cause any damage due to leakage.• ELEMENT Barryvox®: alkaline• PULSE Barryvox®: alkaline / lithium

Audio-supported fine searching in a cross (bracketing) is simplifiedby using arrows. These clearly show on the display the directionto walk in, based on the distance and signal information in relationto the avalanche transceiver. The device helps users by means ofinformation regarding when to change search direction and theoptimum transition from fine searching in a cross (bracketing) toprobing (pinpointing).

The star ting point for guided fine searching dynamical ly adapts tothe depth of the avalanche and the device guides the user based

on the remaining distance to the buried subject using one or moreprocesses of fine searching in a cross (bracketing).

USER PROFILE

PULSE AND ELEMENT BARRYVOX®

ELEMENT Barryvox®  The device has an intuitive user profilethat is very easy to use thanks to clear instructions and one-buttonoperation.

PULSE Barryvox®  Tailored profiles (Basic/Advanced) can be

selected to suit users' needs and abilities. This allows the device tobe adapted to different users and applications. For example, userscan start with the simple Basic profile and then, after a lit tle practice, move onto the Advanced profile, which offers more options andfunctions.

Basic profile  The user navigation of the Basic profile for thePULSE Barryvox® is the same as for the ELEMENT Barryvox®. How-ever, users also have all the benefits of the PULSE Barryvox ® andits additional sensors. User navigation and searches are thereforeoptimized: the device can detect classic user errors and guide the

rescuer accordingly.

Advanced profile  This user profile al lows access to a wide rangeof device settings and functions (analog mode, vital data, tonesupport < 3 meters, etc.), which allows it to be configured to users’individual needs and preferences.

However, the most important factor is prevention, and the founda-tion for this is comprehensive knowledge, proper preparation beforea tour and appropriate conduct in the terrain! Emergency equipmentis essential on tours: an avalanche transceiver, a shovel, a probe andideally an avalanche airbag. In addition, use of this equipment in an

emergency situation should be practiced regularly. To sign up for a training course, go to www.mammut.ch/safety

LIGHTWEIGHT

CARBON CARTRIDGE

OVERVIEW AND

COMPARISON

The Removable Airbag System R.A.S. and the new Protection Air-bag System are based on the same inflation process: the deploy-ment mechanism is activated by pulling the deployment handle. The mechanism opens the pressure cartridge and the released gasflows into the airbag via a venturi valve; ambient air is also fed intothe airbag. The gas in the cartridge and the ambient air inflates the150-liter airbag in approx. three seconds (depending on temperatureand altitude).

Our new carbon car tridge for avalanche airbags is really light! When filled it weighs about 50 % less (approx. 310 g) than ourother cartridges (steel/aluminum). The cartridge is fully compatiblewith all Mammut and Snowpulse avalanche airbags with InflationSystem 2.0.

Simple and safe Thanks to simple physical principlesand intuitive operation the system is safe.
