Wishing Well

After recently installing a Wishing Well at Pilgrims View, one of the first wishes granted was resident George, who requested that he wanted to hear the sound of bagpipes again, especially the tune Amazing Grace.

The staff at the home set to the challenge, and were determined to deliver this request, so after several phone calls, letters and emails staff found a local man called Ivan who was happy to offer his bagpiping services for the

afternoon.

Ivan arrived in full Highland dress on a chilly Saturday afternoon in March to entertain the residents and play various tunes including George’s favourite, Amazing Grace.

All residents, families and staff had an amazing afternoon and Georges wish was granted. A big thank you to Ivan for making Georges wish come true and making it happen for us.

As a charity, Avante Partnership is ‘apolitical’ in that we operate outside of politics, working for the benefit of our service users with whichever political party is in control at a national, regional or local level.

More recently Kaylea has been working alongside the Chief Executive’s PA, Karen Flynn, where she has been learning about the organisation as a whole. One of Kaylea’s many tasks was to help with this edition of Avante News which she has really enjoyed.

Red Nose Dayn Red Nose Day Pilgrims View staff decided to do something

rather fun to raise money.

The dress code was red and wacky and many staff wore just that, with Karan Richards (Acting Home Manager) sporting a lovely red wig and Patsy Terry (Activities Co-ordinator) as the sugar plum fairy!! In total the home raised £40.

O

Dennis “Grandad” Lippard

Dennis Lippard, also known in the home as ‘Grandad’ celebrated his 90th birthday in February and decided he wanted to celebrate by playing ten pin bowling.

So without further ado the staff set up a bowling alley in the lounge for residents to enjoy, and as you can see Dennis was ready to go. Later on that day his family all arrived to spend the evening with him to celebrate his 90th birthday, Many happy returns Dennis!

Gardening club

Staff and residents at Pilgrims View are starting a gardening club in April to help restore hobbies and interests among the green fingered residents at the home. Through the gardening club the home will also see the unveiling of the ‘Potting Shed’ which is coming soon during April.

The two o’clock club

At two o’clock every day Pilgims View has launched a ‘Two o’clock’ club where residents can enjoy listening to some of the old time radio favourites such as Morecombe and Wise and Val Doonican and many other great artists.

Below left are some of our staff joining in with the day. Above right is Siobhan Joy. Above left is Patsy Terry as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Assistant Manager Maddy Pool.
