Can it be? We are into the month
of September and summer is winding down.
Have you accomplished all the things
you planned to do? If you are like me,
the answer is resounding NO.
So now we must take stock of all the things that
need to be done and tackle them one by one.
Good things are planned for the lodge and with your help they will happen. What is that expression? Oh, yes it takes a village. In this case that means you and me. So, let's join hands and go forth! Wishing you happy days! Fraternally, Luisa Potenza President

NATIONAL V-J DAY
On September 2, National V-J Day (Victory over Japan Day)
recognizes Allied Forces’ victory over Japan during World War
II. Officials announced the surrender of Japan to the Allies on August
15, 1945. The official signing of surrender took place on September 2,
1945, officially ending World War II. The formal signing of the
Japanese Instrument of Surrender took place on board the battleship
USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. At that time, President Truman
declared September 2 to be the official V-J Day.
LABOR DAY
The first Monday of every September recognizes the men and women who
labor to build this country. Through a time-honored tradition with roots in
the coordinated efforts of the labor movement of the 1800s, we salute the
American worker force.
Labor Day was celebrated for the first time in New York City in 1882. It was
originally celebrated on September 5th but was moved to the first Monday
in September in 1884. Labor Day started out as a state holiday, getting
voted in by individual states. As the day gained popularity, Congress
declared Labor Day 1894.
1. THE FOUNDER OF THE BANK OF NORTH AMERICA WAS A.P. GIANNINI.
A P Giannini was the first to challenge the
unwritten rule that banks should only lend
money to people who don’t need it. Amadeo
Pietro (Peter) Giannini was born on a small
farm in San Jose, California in 1870, the son
of Italian immigrants. He was only seven
years old when he saw his father killed in a
fight with another man over a dollar.
2. COLONEL FRANCESCO VEGO WAS ON THE NORTHWEST EXPEDITION.
Terre Haute is the county seat of Vigo County which is named after Colonel Francis Vigo. Francis Vigo was born under the name Giuseppe Maria Francesco Vigo in Mondovi,Italy in 1747. While he was in New Orleans he became interested in the fur trading business. In 1772, he established a fur trading business among the Native Americans in St. Louis. At the same time he was also a secret agent for the Spanish governor. In 1778, Vigo decided to help the Americans during the American Revolution. After George Rogers Clark captured Kaskaskia, Vigo began providing funding, supplies, and pertinent information to Clark. With this help from Vigo, Clark was able to recapture Vincennes in 1779. Vigo became an American citizen when he settled in Vincennes in 1783. In 1801, he petitioned the U.S. Congress for land in order to start what is now Vincennes University. In 1818 Vigo County Indiana was renamed after Colonel Vigo. The bell at the Vigo County Courthouse was bought using money that was provided from the government after he died as compensation for his efforts in the Revolutionary War. He lived to the old age of 89 and is buried in Vincennes.

I recently picked a new primary care physician. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age.
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him," Do you think I'll live to be 80?"
He asked, "Do you smoke tobacco or drink beer or wine?" "Oh no," I replied. "I'm not doing drugs, either." Then he asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?" I said, "No, my other Doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy."
"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?" "No, I don't," I said.
He asked, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?" "No," I said. "I don't do any of those things."
He looked at me and said, "Then why do you want to live to 80?"

What causes Leaves to change Color
Not all trees turn to vivid colors in the Fall. Several factors contribute to
change of color including temperature, precipitation and soil moisture.
That’s one of the reasons I always welcome the rain. The main reason
for the change though, is light or rather lack there of.
THE SEPTEMBER MOON APPEARS WITH BRILLIANT JUPITER AND BRIGHT SATURN AT NIGHTFALL. THE Moon floats to the right of Jupiter on the 5th, left of Jupiter on the 6th, right of Saturn September 7th and left of Saturn

thin crescent Moon, very low in the west soon after sunset, forms a triangle with Mercury to its lower left and bright returning Venus
