2016 Awards Changes Throughout the awards packet, all new changes for the 2016 season are highlighted in yellow. Here are the changes listed out for your reference.
Coaches will now have the ability to edit and add to completed nominations after the nomination deadline has passed. This will allow coaches and SIDs the ability to add stats and awards earned after the nomination deadline
(Oct. 28). ALL STATS MUST BE UPDATED IN EACH ATHLETE'S NOMINATION. If evidence is shown that a
particular set of stats are not included, the athlete will not be considered for AVCA awards.
Here are the items that will need to be updated:
o Updated Win/Loss records
o Updated Awards and Recognition with any potential conference awards
o Updated Stats vs All Opponents, Regionally Ranked Teams, and Nationally Ranked Teams
o New Match-by-Match stats attachment
Deadlines to Update Statistics (Stats earned in matches after nomination deadline must be added to the nominated athlete’s nomination)
o Deadline to update prior to the All-Region call: Monday, November 7th
at 12 pm EST.
o Deadline to update prior to the All-America call: Sunday, November 13th
at 12 pm EST.
Should your team be competing on this Sunday, exceptions can be granted. Please notify AVCA
staff on when you expect you will be able to update those statistics after the match.
COACHES WILL STILL BE REQUIRED TO NOMINATE ATHLETES PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE. Coaches will not be able to submit new nominations after the deadline – only edit existing nominations. Coaches and SIDs will use the same nomination link to access previous nominations and make edits.
Because coaches will be able to update their nominations with new stats, voting coaches and regional
committee members will exclusively review athletes stats using the AVCA Stats Portal. The AVCA will no longer email out spreadsheet comparisons of athlete stats. A link to the AVCA Stats Portal will be sent out with the voting ballot link.

AVCA Postseason Student-Athlete Awards Information
The AVCA women’s volleyball postseason awards program is in its 36th
year. The AVCA is proud to honor deserving student-athletes annually by selecting All-Region (one 14-person team and six honorable mention student-athletes per region) and All-America teams (14 student-athletes per a first, second and third team), highlighted by the selection of the AVCA Division III Player of the Year. The AVCA All-America selection committee is comprised of ten members, in addition to the AVCA Awards chairperson (page 4). To ensure geographic representation, these individuals represent the ten regions in NCAA Division III women’s volleyball. Presentation of the AVCA All-America awards will take place at the 2016 NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball National Championship team banquet on
Wednesday, November 16. The Division III Player of the Year will be recognized at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year
Banquet at the 2016 AVCA Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, December 16.
NOMINATING PROCEDURES
The postseason nomination procedure is an on-line process. There are no restrictions regarding how many student-athletes one team may nominate, as there are no restrictions on the number of student-athletes that one team can place on the AVCA All-Region/All-American teams. Please use your professional judgment to only nominate those student-athletes who legitimately have a chance to earn AVCA All-Region honors. Only student-athletes who are selected to their respective AVCA All-Region team are then eligible for AVCA All-America consideration.
NOMINATION RULES & REQUIREMENTS
The general requirements for nominating a student-athlete for AVCA postseason honors are: • The student-athlete must meet all eligibility requirements as listed in the rules adopted by her respective
institution; • The student-athlete may be in her first, second, third, or fourth year of eligibility; • The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution • The student-athlete must have participated in 2/3 (66.7%) of all sets (not matches) during the current season
at the time of the nomination deadline; AVCA Two-Thirds Participation Waiver: Student-Athletes who fail to participate in two-thirds of all sets
(not matches) during the current season due to Institution-approved participation in Olympic, Pan American, World Championships or World University Games are eligible for AVCA All-America consideration if all other nomination requirements are met. All regular deadlines, policies and procedures remain in effect. No statistical information may be substituted. The official participation documents must accompany the nomination.
• All deadlines and guidelines must be met for a nomination to be considered – NO EXCEPTIONS; • The student-athlete’s head coach must be a member in good standing of the American Volleyball Coaches
Association. Head coaches have until Friday, October 21, 2016, to become a member or renew their membership to ensure compliance.
TERMS FOR DISQUALIFICATION
REGION FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES
ALL-REGION/ ALL-AMERICA AWARDS
Failure to meet the above stated rules and requirements may result in the disqualification of a student-athlete from AVCA All-Region and All-America consideration. Candidates for AVCA Region Freshman of the Year must be true freshman. ONLY ONE NOMINEE PER SCHOOL IS ALLOWED PER YEAR. The AVCA National Freshman of the Year will be selected from the eight AVCA Region Freshmen of the Year award winners.
The selection of the All-Region Team is determined in part by all member head coaches’ votes, and in part by the Regional Committees. This process was designed in 2014 to increase the representation of the AVCA's member head coaches within the selection process, while still ensuring that the most deserving
student-athletes are named. The voting will take place from 8:00 a.m. (EST) on Wednesday, November 2
through 5:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, November 4. All member coaches will receive the same statistical analysis that the regional committees receives to help in the voting process.
The All-Region Team selections are not based upon position specific requirements. Instead, coaches will vote for their top 14 most deserving athletes on their All-Region ballot. The All-Region Committee will still be encouraged to have a fair representation from all positions. For committee reference, 2014 and prior positional requirements were as follows:
5 Outside/Opposite Hitters
3 Middle Blockers
2 Setters
1 Libero/Defensive Specialist
3 At-Large Selections
Voting Rules and Notes
7
Coaches cannot vote for their own players.
Coaches must vote in order for their players to be considered for the All Region Team.
Coaches must vote for a total of 14 players.
The voting will take place online through a link provided by the AVCA
All-Region Committees remain intact to ensure the proper teams are named. Their main role is to review the votes and take action in the case of low voter turnout or obvious collusion.
Athletes that receive the top six vote totals from each region will be automatically assigned
to the All-Region team. In the event of a tie for the sixth automatic selection, the All-Region
committee will determine who will receive the automatic selection.
AWARDS BANQUETS
All 2016 AVCA Division III All-Americans will be invited to attend the NCAA Division III Championship
Banquet on Wednesday, November 16th
on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (Oshkosh, WI). All-Region committees will forward a select list of All Region players eligible for All-America status. If your student athlete(s) is selected AVCA First, Second, or Third Team All-America or National Freshman
of the Year, head coaches will be notified on Monday, November 14th
, via phone call from the AVCA Office Staff. Head coaches providing a number where you can be reached away from your home or office is most
helpful. For All-Americans that are NOT participating in the NCAA Semi-Final Matches, the deadline
to RSVP to AVCA Staff is Tuesday, November 15th
at 12 p.m. EST. AVCA National Players of the Year for NCAA Division I, II and III will be announced at each respective banquet.
All 2016 AVCA National Players of the Year (Division I, II, III) receive an invitation to the AVCA All-
America/Players of the Year Banquet on Friday, December 16th
, held in conjunction with the 2016 AVCA Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio. The AVCA will provide ONE ticket to each National Player of the Year to attend the 2016 AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet, as well as a travel reimbursement. This banquet ticket will only supply admission for the National Player of the Year. Additional banquet tickets for family and friends may be purchased for $45 each (limit up to 3 tickets) on-site at the AVCA Convention Registration.
8
2016 Nationally and Regionally Ranked Teams
AVCA will publish its list of Nationally Ranked Teams and Regionally Ranked Teams on Wednesday, October 19th
to the
AVCA DIII Awards Nomination page. Each list will also be emailed separately to all AVCA member head coaches. ONLY
teams on this list are to be considered when compiling summary statistics for regionally and nationally ranked
competition in the postseason awards process.
Nationally Ranked Teams All teams that appear on the AVCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll at least THREE or more times (not including the DIII Preseason Poll) will be selected and appear on the AVCA List of Nationally Ranked Teams. There is no minimum or maximum to the quantity of teams that can appear on this list.
Regionally Ranked Teams Because AVCA started to recognize ten regions in 2014, as opposed to NCAA’s eight regions, in Division III Women’s Volleyball, the AVCA Regionally Ranked Team List is determined using a combination of the NCAA Regional Rankings and the Rich Kern’s National Pablo Rankings. (This process has existed since 2014, though has not been published).
1. All teams that are featured on the 2016 NCAA Regional Rankings by region will be featured on the 2016 AVCA Regionally Ranked Teams List.
Teams will then be assigned and listed under their correct and respective AVCA-recognized region.
2. Each region will be filled with the next available team from its respective region listed on the 2016 Rich Kern’s National Pablo Rankings. Those teams will be selected in order by points from largest to smallest.
3. This process will continue until each region has a minimum that is consistent with the number of teams featured on NCAA Regional Rankings in each region.
This minimum may fluctuate each year based on the number of teams that the NCAA Regional Ranking Committee selects per region.
I.e., If NCAA Regional Ranking only produces 8 teams in one region and 12 teams in another region, then the AVCA minimum is set at 8 teams per region.
No team with a win-loss percentage under .500 can be featured on the AVCA Regionally Ranked Team List.
AVCA reserves the right to publish this list with less than the minimum number of teams (as determined by the NCAA Regional Rankings), should the next team(s) ranked on the Pablo Rankings have under a .500 win-loss percentage.
