So many things have gone on during
the month of May that it took me a while to
capture it all to get this month’s
issue of the Avenger Times pub-
lished. We started the month
off with the NBC Chamber and
reaction training. The next day
we went to the new Avenger
movie showing at Seth Child
Cinema followed by a relaxing
cook out at Tuttle Creek that
afternoon. The movie was bet-
ter than any of us expected and
triple awesome because we had
the theater to ourselves, our families, and
friends. I think we all decided that we had a
great time and
wanted to do
this again.
M a y
also started the
post-wide soft-
ball season. The
A v e n g e r s
fielded a fabulous team with members from
each platoon participating; looking great in
their Avenger
jerseys. Even
though they
don’t win all the
time the team
continues to play
and promote camaraderie,
esprit de corps, and unit pride.
Even on nights when the team
had to be in at 0300 for weap-
ons draw to go to the field
they still played on, that is
dedication and embraces the
Avenger motto of Never Quit!
During the month
of May the Avengers com-
pleted their 12 mile foot
march. These physical
training sessions were quite
challenging due to the dis-
tance, weight, and time.
Every soldier carried ap-
proximately 40 lbs to in-
clude their IOTV,
weapon, helmet,
and water source.
The fastest soldier in
was SGT Dorff followed closely by SGT
Ash; they both finished well under 3 hours.
Everyone learned that they can push
through pain, blisters, and hardship when
they are driven by will and refuse to give up.
We also completed Night Driving
this month. Soldiers went out to the expan-
sive training area of Fort
Riley Kansas to drive
wearing Night Vision
Devices to conduct their
annual refresher train-
ing. All of us that were
able to conduct the
training found wearing
the NVGs a bit more challenging than we
expected. This training definitely helped my
confidence in driving with NVGs and re-
minded me how important it is because as
the US Army...WE OWN THE NIGHT!
We completed the month in the
midst of a Battalion FTX which we will
cover in the next issue.
Until then…. NEVER QUIT!

During the last month and a half, the
ISR Platoon participated and success-
fully completed a wide range of train-
ing to include New Equipment Train-

CW2 Bloomquist and SGT Dorff con-
tinue to support War Fighter and are
currently at Fort Leavenworth, KS tak-
ing the fight to the simulated enemy.
The skills and experience they are gain-
ing will serve greatly to prepare the
platoon, the company, and the Brigade
for future operations.
CPL Loughlin and SPC Jaeger recently
completed 65 hours DCGS-A training,
while the rest of 1st Platoon received
individual training regarding evaluating
casualties
and search-
ing indi-
viduals.

quist has recently been rewarded for his
hard work and performance of duty and

course in early May. Five SIGINTers par-
ticipated in the training event which
was both fun and educational. Not as
much fun was the reporting class the
platoon took to improve the quality of
the different reports they are required
to produce. However, after a week of
practice, all the soldiers were highly
profiencient. The biggest event for
May and June, however, was the Bat-
talion FTX. In preparation, the platoon
enlisted the help of the battalion med-
ics and MPs to receive refresher train-
ing on certain skills. At the Battalion
FTX, SGT Harris led the MSG squad
through multiple challenges and en-
sured all soldiers were successful.
Sadly, the MSG platoon is saying good-
bye to two of its members. SSG Toby
McLellan began out-processing 4 June
to leave for Germany. He was the
acting Platoon Sergeant while SSG
Jackson was at ALC, and is the 2nd
MSG Platoon
Squad Leader. SSG
McLellan blessed
the platoon with
his leadership and
one-liners and will
be greatly missed.

build junior level leadership, the time is
approaching to say goodbye to one of
our fine NCO’s. On 20 June, SGT Donna-
hoo will final-out from Fort Riley and take
his talents to Fort Irwin, California. Al-
though his leadership
and reliability will be
missed, he set a great
example for other
Avengers to follow
and will leave a void to
be filled by one of our
developing Soldiers. I
have no doubt that SGT Donnahoo will
succeed at his next duty station given his
commitment, dedication, and desire to
learn.
Hard work, excellent training, and
outstanding leadership is what
guided SGT Prunty and his squad
through the Battalion Field Training
Exercise. With all of their determina-
tion to be the best squad in the bat-
talion they finished third place. They
worked diligently in their spare time
to ensure that all members of the

Avengers– continue to set the standard for the
Brigade. You are totally leading the pack when
it comes to acting like professionals when off
duty. Remember that if you
see someone doing the
wrong thing it is up to you to
correct it or bring it to the
attention of someone who can. According to
AR 600-20 every soldier has a responsibility to
inform the commander of things that affect
command climate. If you are not part of the
solution you are part of the problem. Continue
to make the Avengers a proud unit that takes
care of each other like a family.

A COMPANY, 1ST STB, 1ST HBCT, 1ST ID A Company, 1-1 STB Building 7243 Bamford I am constantly impressed with the hard work displayed by
the Soldiers of the Alpha Company 1-1 BSTB. On a daily ba-sis I am in the presence of true professionals. The commit-ment and dedication of our Soldiers towards mission accom-plishment is truly inspirational and I am extremely proud of what our Soldiers, NCOs, and Officers have accomplished dur-ing this last month. As we head into the summer and 4th of July holiday, make sure you are not celebrating alone. We have several spouses whose Soldiers are currently in courses back at Ft. Leonard Wood, National Training Center or elsewhere. Reach out to these family members while their Soldier is away. We also have several single Soldiers who will be looking for a real home cooked meal or a family to relax with. Let’s all take care of all Avengers during this time of year. In addition I want to welcome to the Company the numerous new Soldiers to the company and a warm heart welcome to the proud new moms and dads of little Avengers over the past couple of months. With the welcomes we have to say goodbye to several good Soldiers. Good Luck in their civilian life or at their new duty station. Keep up the hard work and dedication. NEVER QUIT!!!

The Avenger Family Group’s mission is to keep fami-
lies and Soldiers informed of activities that are going
on outside of the duty day and assist with finding the
right help when needed. The AFG keeps a pulse on
how the families are feeling about support from the
unit and provides a way to reach out for volunteer
opportunities as well as bringing issues or concerns
that need to be addressed. We want to build a
strong team of Soldiers and Families that support one
another. Just Ask!
