Tony Fernandes has been the Group Chief Executive Officer of

AirAsia since December 2001

Prior to AirAsia he was the Financial Controller of Virgin

Communications London before joining Warner Music

International London in 1989 He was promoted to Managing

Director Warner Music Malaysia in 1992 and to Regional

Managing Director Warner Music South East Asia in 1996 In

1999 he was the Vice President of Warner Music South East

Asia

When the music industry failed to adapt quickly to the Internet

Fernandes decided to make a clean break He left his job to

pursue a childhood dream set up an Asias first low cost

airline

Fernandes bought AirAsia from a Malaysian government-owned company in September 2001 for a mere 25 pence and managed to turn it

into a highly successful budget airline public-listed company The company grew from two planes in 2002 to a fleet of 90 aircraft flying over

100 million people around the world to 65 destinations in 18 countries and counting

Since launching AirAsia he has received numerous state awards as well as accolades from international press and industry observers

Notably in 2010 he was named Forbes Asia Businessman of the Year 2010 the first Malaysian and Asean citizen to receive the award In

2013 Tony was named Innovator of the Year by CNBCs Asian Business leaders Award (ABLA)

Cai graduated from China Civil Aviation Institute and was appointed as

General Manager of Shenzhen Airlines in 1999

He joined Air China in 2001 as Manager of its Shanghai Branch and

subsequently as Assistant to the President and Manager of the marketing

department In October 2002 he was appointed as Vice President of Air

and subsequently was appointed as Secretary of the Communist Party

Beijing ndash a strategy to capitalise on over 100 million Chinese expected to travel overseas in 2015 and Los Angeles is one of their top

favourite destinations Air China is also the only Chinese carrier with more-than-once daily frequency from the United States to China

Calin Rovinescu began his term as President and Chief

Executive Officer of Air Canada in April 2009

Rovinescu first joined Air Canada in 2000 as Executive Vice

President Corporate Development amp Strategy where he had

oversight for many of the airlinersquos businesses including loyalty

management (Aeroplan) regional carriers (Jazz) and

maintenance repair and overhaul (ACTS) He also designed

Air Canadarsquos corporatization business model and subsidiary

carve-out strategy for Aeroplan Jazz and ACTS which

subsequently surfaced significant shareholder value

Under Rovinescursquos leadership Air Canada is eyeing Asian expansion with its Boeing 787 Dreamliner as the industry predicts that travel

demand will surge in Asia over the next decades Its long-term growth strategy is to go beyond the largest hubs in Asia targeting the new

destinations including New Delhi Mumbai and Guangzhuo

Stefan Pichler has held the position of Chief Executive Officer

of the airberlin group with responsibility for all of the companies

in the group since February 2015

With 25 years experience in the aviation industry Pichler has

unique experience managing low-cost charter and classic

airlines with profitable route networks He is thus well

positioned to take the task of restructuring airberlin to ensure

sustainable and long-term profitability for the airline

world in 2006 and 2007 At the same time he also founded V Australia where he worked until 2009 as Chairman of the Supervisory Board

Before that Pichler was Chairman and CEO of Thomas Cook AG He has also held a variety of senior positions at Lufthansa most recently

as Chief Commercial Officer and Member of the Executive Board

Alexandre de Juniac graduated from the elite Ecole Polytechnique de Paris and

then at the even more elite Ecole Nationale drsquoAdministration founded by Charles

de Gaulle in 1945 to train the countryrsquos next generation of leaders

Alexandre was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air France in

2011 Until 2013 he took on the same role at the holding company Air France-

KLM the alliance that was created through the merger of the two airlines in 2004

operating the leading long-haul network on departure from Europe

Alexandre is taking the mission to restructure the Franco-Dutch flag carrier amidst

high cost base labour unrest big fuel bills and fierce competition from low-cost

carriers Under his leadership the airline returned to operating profit in 2013 the

first in three years after a prolonged crisis

To keep Air France KLM financially healthy in 2015 and years ahead especially

after the pilot strike in 2014 Alexandre is planning to adjust some of the airlinersquos

long-haul flight plans in several markets especially Asia where it has more

capacity and will become a larger market than North America

International Airline at Air New Zealand from May 2011 and

took over the role of Chief Executive Officer on 1 January 2013

Before joining the airline Christopher was President and CEO

of Unilever Canada based in Toronto where he was

responsible for leading Unilevers $14 billion Canadian

business and 1500 employees He was also a key member of

Unilevers North American Leadership Team

Under Christopherrsquos leadership Air New Zealand reported a strong set of financial results for the first half of its financial year 2014 Also

the airlinersquos international expansion is much now in Asian markets Services to Tokyo have increased and Air New Zealand recently

launched flights to Singapore as part of its alliance with Singapore airlines - which Christopher considers as a key part of the airlinersquos

Keisuke Okada is highly respected in the industry for his knowledge experience

leadership and personality

Okada joined ANA as a trainee aircraft engineer in 1974 from University of Tokyo

School of Engineering He rose through the ranks and soon held a variety of

managerial posts in the ANArsquos Engineering and Maintenance Division including

roles in Planning and Production Control

He moved to Headquarters as deputy director of Airline Alliances in 1998 where

he oversaw ANArsquos entry into Star Alliance He was then appointed executive vice

president for Corporate Planning and Cargo Marketing amp Services for ANA Group

and promoted to the board in 2004

From 2007 to 2013 he took responsibility for Alliances and International Affairs

and was also responsible for entire IT services that includes challenges for

process innovations and digital marketing for ANA During this time period from

2010 to 2013 he was appointed as a chair of the Star Alliance Management

Board

In April 2014 he stepped down from the board members of ANA and now serving

as a Senior Executive Adviser for ANA Holdings

Soo Cheon Kim has served as President of Asiana Airlines since January 1

2014 Kim has been with Asiana Airlines since its founding in 1988 when he

began working in the Sales Office In Seoul Shanghai and Guangzhuo

During his time in China he helped to develop the market and promote sales for

Asiana Airlines in the region His efforts greatly contributed to Asianarsquos current

position as the number one foreign carrier operating to China

In 2002 Kim was promoted to General Manager of Human Resources

Management and subsequently promoted Vice President and Senior Vice

President of Personnel amp Labor in 2004 and 2005 respectively

He was promoted again in 2008 to the position of Executive Vice President and

appointed President amp CEO of Asiana Airlinesrsquo regional affiliate Air Busan in

March of the same year

In his nearly six years at Air Busan Kim successfully led the carrier from the

commencement of operations to its first profitable fiscal year in 2010mdasha record

turnaround for a new airline He was appointed President of Asiana Airlines on

January 1 2014 in recognition of his successes at and contributions to both

2014 becoming the second Chinese executive in its history He is also Chairman

of Hong Kong Dragon Airlines

Ivan joined Cathay Pacific in 1984 and has worked with the Group in Hong Kong

Mainland China Taiwan Thailand and Australia His senior appointments include

General Manager Southwest Pacific General Manager Taiwan amp Korea General

Manager Southeast Asia and General Manager International Affairs

As the CEO of the airline with three years of undistinguished growth Ivan is taking

a major task of continuing its success Under Ivan leadership Cathay Pacific is

eyeing greater and more clearly defined partnerships a low-cost strategy and

profitable freight and fleet planning

Cathay Pacific was named the ldquoWorldrsquos Best Airlinerdquo in the annual Skytrax World

Airline Awards 2014 This is the fourth time Cathay Pacific has received the

Worldrsquos Best Airline honour - the only airline to achieve such a feat The carrier

also took the title in 2003 2005 and 2009

Pacific Air Lance Gokongwei worked at various units of Cebu Pacificrsquos parent

company JG Summit Holdings a conglomerate founded by his father His current

positions include President and Chief Operating Officer of JG Summit

Launched in 1996 Cebu Pacific Air is credited with introducing the low-cost

carrier model in the Philippines The budget airline began flying to international

destinations in 2001

Under Gokongweirsquo leadership Cebu Pacific Air began its long-haul services in the

3rd quarter of 2013 The airline is acquiring more aircraft in line with its plan to

introduce more long-haul flights

Albert Burhan began his term as President amp Chief Executive Officer of Citilink in

February 2015

Albert has the has 20 years of experience in the industry He served in several

Planning Operation and Finance position within Garuda Indonesia before serving

as Vice President Treasury Management (Corporate Treasurer) of Garuda since

2005 until August 2012 In August 2012 he and two other board members

created and started operation of Citilink Indonesia as new entity

Since then until recently Albert served as Chief Finance Officer of Citilink which is

now a low cost airline with 33 new A320 fleet based in Indonesia 100 owned

by Garuda Indonesia He has done many aircraft leases aircraft financing deal

corporate amp debt restructuring and IPO during his career including the successful

turn-around of Garuda Indonesia

As part of Citilinkrsquos turnaround plan Albert deferred the airlines planned

development of scheduled international routes in 2015 in favour of consolidating

its position within the Indonesian domestic market

Tim Clark has been a member of the senior management team

since the year Emirates launched and was instrumental in

transforming the airline from a one-route carrier operating off a

dusty runway to a world leader serving more than 120

destinations

He became President of Emirates airline in 2003 after spending

18 years helping build an aviation empire which owes much to

the route networks he established soon after joining as Head of

Airline Planning

recruited him from the now-defunct British Caledonian Airways

Using this experience combined with the skills he developed while attaining an economics degree from London University in 1971 he

scrutinised demographic data and passenger statistics to identify profitable new routes for Emirates

Clark saw potential in routes other airlines had passed over and for the first Emirates route Pakistan was targeted - a nation which had a

population of more than 150 million people but just one state carrier Dubairsquos strategic location was obvious and services to India soon

followed laying the foundations for him to build a sprawling network which now connects billions of people

James Hogan was appointed President and Chief Executive of

Etihad Airways on 10 September 2006 bringing more than 30

years of travel industry expertise to the Abu Dhabi-based

airline

He has overseen rapid growth of the UAEs national airline

which now serves 89 passenger and cargo destinations in the

Middle East Africa Europe Asia Australia and North America

operating a fleet of 77 modern environmentally friendly aircraft

Under Jamesrsquo leadership in 2014 Etihad Airways introduced The Residence - its luxury flying hotel suite that takes air travel experience to

Austin Cheng has been President of EVA Air since early 2013 In this role he

gives the carrier far‐reaching benefits of his more than 20 years of airline industry

and global transportation experience

Cheng joined the Evergreen Group in 1984 starting in the Business Department

for EVA Airrsquos sister company Evergreen Marine Corporation He transferred to

EVA Air in 1992 the airlinersquos second year of service and proceeded to

successfully fulfil roles with steadily increasing responsibilities

Cheng gained international experience and perspective as manager in Vienna

station general manager in Paris and Senior Vice President in charge of the

America Head Office in Los Angeles where he oversaw passenger and airfreight

services nationwide As Executive Vice President he led EVArsquos Project Division

with extensive responsibilities for planning and operations in almost every area of

the airlinersquos business

Under Austinrsquos leadership EVA Air is looking to bolster transit traffic from

Southeast Asia to further increase capacity to North America by 15 in 2015

operations airport operations customer fulfillment centre services as well as

After 14 years with Scandinavian SAS Group in London Helsinki Tallinn and

Stockholm he managed the Finnair Cargo subsidiary as Managing Director

during 2012-2014 with focus on re-positioning the cargo unit for future growth and

toughening market environment

Since October 2014 he took over as Chief Commercial Officer for Finnair with

responsibility for airlines commercial functions cargo tour operator and travel

agency units

Under Juharsquos leadership Finnair is looking to convert its operationally successful

niche strategy based on capturing Europe-Asia connecting flows via its Helsinki

hub into sustainable profit

Ireland and GM Commercial Operations Europe and North

America

At the helm of flydubai since its inception on 1 June 2009 he

has brought together a dynamic team to build a fleet of 28

Boeing 737-800 aircraft flying to a route network that spans

more than 50 destinations across the Middle East North Africa

Al Ghaith is keen to draw attention to how flydubairsquos brand livery came about ndash a striking blend of blue and orange representing Dubairsquos

climate landscape and coastline With Dubairsquos central location a 5500km flying range and the airlinersquos potential 25 billion passenger-

base flydubairsquos aircraft acquisition and route expansion show every sign of continuing at its current pace

Under his leadership flydubai was named lsquoLow Cost Carrier of the Yearrsquo at the 2014 CAPA Awards for Excellence in Aviation held in

Antwerp Belgium Awarded to the most innovative and influential carrier in its peer group flydubai achieved this distinction in just five

years of operation by challenging the conventions of air travel

Choi Kyu-nam has been Chief Executive Officer of Jeju Air since 2012

Based in Seoul Korea Choi has broad international business experience and

perspective from his cross-border investment and consulting career Prior to Jeju

Air Choi demonstrated successful investment track record at global financial

institutions and venture capital companies including Citigroup SitKim

International and East Gate Capital Management

Choi also brings a strong government connection having served as the President

of the Korea Game Industry Agency (KOGIA) governing and promoting the digital

media industry in Korea It was the Vice Minister level position under the Ministry

of Culture Sports and Tourism (MCST) in Korea

Under Choirsquos leadership Jeju Air reported strong recent revenue growth

averaging 34 percent a year since 2010 and is expected to lift its 6 percent

market share in international flights to and from South Korea to more than 10

percent by 2020 The airline is preparing to become the first listed Korean low-

cost carrier with a fourth-quarter IPO in 2015

A highly respected aviation professional Cramer has almost two decades of

senior level experience in the aviation industry and completed earlier this year a

two year term as the Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles where he led a

struggling under high expenses and adverse operating conditions at the time

marketing related businesses She later returned to Bain as a senior leader in the Australian practice

Under Jaynersquos leadership Jetstar is expanding in Asia via joint ventures in Singapore Vietnam Japan and Hong Kong as a key part of the

airline groups long-term strategy

Barathan (Bara) Pasupathi has been Jetstar Asiarsquos Chief Executive Officer since

July 2012

Bara has more than 16 yearsrsquo experience in senior roles across the aviation and

energy sectors and was a founding executive of Jetstar Asia serving as its Chief

Financial Officer from 2004 to 2007 His key achievements include helping to

establish the airline through its merger with Valuair fleet procurement and fuel

hedging Jetstar Asia has since become the largest and most profitable low fares

airline in Singapore

Having held several leadership positions in Singapore Europe and the Middle

East Bara has extensive exposure in oil market risk management aircraft finance

and leasing and supply chain management

Bara expanded his aviation and finance experience as Chief Financial Officer for

Middle East-based Jazeera Airways during which time the airline successfully

listed on the Kuwati Stock Exchange He also played a key role in the

establishment of Sahaab Aircraft leasing in Kuwait and oversaw the Asia Pacific

Treasury Function for the NASDAQ-listed ModusLink in Singapore which

specialises in global supply chain management

Yoshiharu Ueki joined Japan Airlines in 1975 and worked as a JAL pilot about 35 years

before becoming the first ex-pilot to serve as the carrierrsquos president since February 2012

He is leading JAL through remarkable stages of rebuilding its business after the carrier

resurfaced from roughly two years of bankruptcy protection

In a recent interview with IATA in October 2014 Ueki shared his insights on the future of

LCCS in Japan citing that though LCCs command about 30 of the market in America

35 in Europe and 50 in Southeast Asia low cost in Japan would not capture the market

in the same way with only about 8 share at present

Even when Japan might not be a lucrative market for LCCs in anytime soon the competition is not less tough if not so competitive Ueki

has a simple philosophy to drive JAL going forward maximize revenues and minimize costs To him keeping it simple - by focusing on

the need to deliver the profit - is the key to success

Chief Executive of the national flag carrier Garuda

The appointment came after Skytrax the worldrsquos leading

airline rater certified Garuda as a five-star airline

leaving Arif with a significant task of maintaining the

airlinersquos reputation amidst financial losses

Arif is not a new face at Garuda He started his career in the aviation industry with the airline as an aircraft maintenance engineer from

1990 until 1994 and was Garudarsquos executive vice president of sales and marketing prior to joining Citilink in May 2012

Beginning with only nine aircraft mdash five of which were grants from Garuda mdash Arif led Citilink to grow into a leading budget carrier that

targets the middle class and young passengers During the January-to-September period of 2014 Citilink recorded 54 million passengers

double what it carried in the same period last year Citilink also posted $38 million in profit in the third quarter of 2014 a swing up from the

$56 million loss from the same period last year

Citilink has developed during Arifrsquos tenure and now has a big business equal to older domestic airlines Arif is thus the right choice to

continue the success of Emirsyah Satar - the former Chief Executive Officer

Rahul Bhatia co-founded and built IndiGo into the countrys largest

airline in 9 years with a one third market share

While SpiceJet and Jet have been racking up losses IndiGo under

Bhatiarsquos leadership makes money and has been doing so since

2009 In the fiscal year to March 2014 the latest for which official

numbers are available it reported net profits of Rs 317 crore

despite weak demand and intense competition combined with weak

currency to hurt performance With its low costs efficiency and

reliability of operations IndiGo is estimated worth a valuation of

$13 billion to $14 billion

Rusdi Kirana started out as a teenager selling American Brother

typewriters His real-life brother Kusnan Kirana put him through

school Together they set up a travel firm then Lion Air in June

2000

Starting with just $900000 in 1999 Rusdi and his brother have

built Lion Air into the largest airline in Indonesia by number of

passengers flown and fleet size

According to a recent report by Financial Times Rusdi is planning

to take the private airline public soon and the most recent indicative value of the airline is about $2 billion nearly double the value of the

listed national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia

Hersquos planning for that growth with the largest-ever single commercial order from Boeing in its history $21 billion placed in 2011 for 230

planes (with an option for 150 more) He followed that up in 2013 with a $24 billion order for 234 airplanes from Airbus also the largest-

ever single order A few months ago he did a relatively small $1 billion deal with Italyrsquos ATR for 40 turboprops Thus in the last four years

Carsten Spohr has been Chairman of the Executive Board and

Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Lufthansa AG since May 1

2014

Carsten has worked for Lufthansa his entire career and had

been running its largest business unit the passenger airline

since 2011

Prior to that Carsten was a personal assistant to the CEO and

Chairman of Lufthansa before assuming responsibility for

Lufthansarsquos regional partnerships in Europe in 1998 In 2000 he
