What an incentive are produce - scarce in one locale abundant in another, resulting in a route through dry deserts,
treachourours mountains and dacoit infested plains, without which many secrets would remain hidden until technology furthered its advances. A bridge between countries
and people, needs and requirments, beliefs and faith, art and architecture stood, the
long and winding commercially important ‘Silk Route’. The expertise of Caravan Travel steered many between the huge expanses of the deserts and terra to contrasting environs
of joy at oases that refreshed the traveler providing respite for the journey’s next stage.
Silk Road traffic passed through Central Asia along many routes and on to many
destinations making the Middle East in some sense an end-point for the road, but perhaps
more importantly a trans-shipment zone.
This beauteous region is where our ‘Chauraha’ literally translating to ‘Cross Roads’, inspires and transpires from. A melting hotpot of influences many have
travelled through or exchanged knowledge here, lending to its all-important charm.
Influences are still prevalent in tribes and art from centuries ago. With this rich and
prominent regions’ influence we continue an evolution along our route to bring together the travellers, the travelled, the traders, the
traded, the invaders and the invaded.
Our Collection meets on this cross road where things coincide from different spheres,
genders, ideologies – the oldest known cultural exchange - telling stories of rags to riches, taking from the travelling men to the traditional women, the western invader to the most religious saint, the wealthy spice
vendor to the most elusive gypsy. Our AW12 collection Chauraha is a perspective of this magnificient geographical area of contrast with harmony, always teaching us how new
things are borne from the old, how new meaning can be found within the existing.
