Dear Parents,
Congratulations to our two Kids Lit teams that performed with excellence at the BOP
finals in Tauranga yesterday. Our A team came second, in a competition that was nail
biting and very close. While Our A team came second our B team came 14th out of
28 schools! A result that epitomisers our under lying philosophy of “the pursuit of
excellence”. 1st was Tauranga Intermediate, 2nd Awakeri, 3rd Taupo Intermediate.
Well done to our children and our coaches, Margo White and Kate Dowzall.
Our Cross country day is now on Monday the 28th at 1.30pm. Parents and
supporters are more than welcome to come and watch the runners.
Written reports will go home on the 28th of June in preparation for parent interviews in the last week of the term. You do not have to wait for interviews if you have a worry or concern. Please contact us at any time if you have a worry or issue with the school. We are here to help. Negotiations between the Government and the Teachers and Support Staff unions are not going well for the renewal of our collective agreements. The next stop work meeting for teachers is to be held on Wednesday the 27th of June at 2pm. School will be closing at 1pm and buses will run at this time. Again their will be a skeleton staff here to supervise children for parents who find it difficult for children to go home early. These children will need to be collected from school by 3.30pm. We will be closed on Friday the 22nd of June for a Teacher Training Day. Situations vacant - Retired, grandparents, or if you have some spare time, people to come into the school on a regular basis to read to children. A short introduction/training will be given. If you have a spare 20 minutes leave a message for Peter Sheather. Every day counts, learn to earn. Peter Fitzgerald

I am practicing Self-Discipline when I... Use detachment so my emotions wont control
me Speak and act calmly when I am hurt or angry
Get things done in any orderly and efficient way Create routines for myself
Do what is expected without people having to remind me
Do things on time
Our virtue this month is Self-Discipline Discipline means control. Self-discipline is self control. It means getting yourself to do what is
important to do, rather than being a leaf in the wind of your thoughts or feelings. With self-discipline, you can be moderate. You don’t lose control of yourself when you feel hurt or angry, but decide how you are going to talk and what you are going to do. With self-
discipline , you take charge of yourself

“Princesses with Attitude”
Speeches The senior rooms are currently doing speeches in class on their various topics. The year 7 & 8s are doing health topics. They are part of the school speech con-test. The year 7&8s have semi finals to see which speakers go through to the final in week 7. The final is open to the public and is always an entertaining evening. The past winners of the speech contest, which goes all the way back to 1949, are on the Academic Archives page of the School Website.
Letters to France The senior rooms have all recently written back to the letters they received from a school in France. The students there are aged 11 and 12 and they are learning English. It was a great experience for our students to read their good attempts at using English and their lovely cursive handwriting styles. Our students were very excited and they have done a good job of their replies too. The school is College Le Calloud in the town of La Tour Du Pin.

Germs and Illness—There is currently a vomiting bug through school and chicken pox in the junior school. Unfortunately the chicken pox is spread before any symptoms show. Follow the link below to see the signs and symptoms: https://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/conditions-and-treatments/school-exclusion
If your child feels sick at home please take note, you are welcome to call us to check if anything is going around. We can never be to too careful.
Head Lice—Please check your children for nits as they are back in force. Please encourage the kids tie their hair up to discourage the spread of nits.
