Inthecurrentcon�lictriddenglobalscenario,IndianeedstohaveChemicalWarfareAgents(CWA)detectionmechanisminplacetorespondtoCWAattacks.AttheheartoftheCWAdetectionmechanism,theDetectoristhekeyelement.OnlyfewforeigncountrieshavethedetectorsdevelopedforthedetectionofCWA,andIndiawasdependentoncompaniesfromthesecountriesforthedetectorsupplies.Self-relianceinCWAdetectionisimportantforIndiaduetoitsstrategicimportance.

Tomeetthesituationalrequirementasa“Firstresponder”,whichshoulddetectChemicalWarfareAgents(CWA)asearlyaspossiblewithlowestconcentrationwhereachemicalhaslessereffecttothehuman,anIonMobilitySpectrometry(IMS)basedCWAsensorhasbeendeveloped.TheCWAdetectionSensorisbasedonTimeofFlight(ToF)IonMobilitySpectrometry(IMS)principle.Thesystemisdesignedtoinhalegassamplepresentintheenvironmentandproduceanelectricalsignalcalledionmobilityspectraandthechemicalagentisidenti�ieddependingonthemobility,thetimeof�lightaseachchemicalagenthasitsownsignature.BasedonthisconceptsensorisdesignedtodetectCWAinrealtime(lessthanaminute),andgiveaudio-visualalarm.
