    FROM THE EDITOR

I dont know how everyone weathered the last threeeclipses but I am feeling somewhat shell shocked. Theeclipses brought about six weeks of intensity and I amamazed at the amount of toxic muck that has risen to

the surface. The whole month has played out like adark surreal scene in Alice in Wonderland.

Eclipses especially lunar eclipses have a tendency towork on the emotions, the inner and hidden aspects ofour psyche, so I am not surprised that the energies ofthe past few weeks have caused so much disharmonyamongst so many people. In fact the July 1st eclipsebrought with it a plethora of angry planets that wereunable to cooperate with each other. No wonder the

communications on Facebook of late were so heated at times. There were definitely somevery domineering people out there espousing very strong viewpoints and who werecoercing people with excommunication if they didnt agree with their terms and conditions.

I actually was one of many people that had been excommunicated from someones pagefor opposing a particular viewpoint. Well actually I wasnt opposing I was just referring to adiscrepancy in an argument. Evidently it was enough to be permanently extricated from thefriends list. Actually it was more than being just unfriended, I was blocked, which preventedme from seeing their comments on anyone elses wall. Well it cuts both ways, but I guesswhat I have to say doesnt rate that high on the Richter scale anyway.

Did you know that Facebook is a cause of stress with so many people? This stressincludes the fear of missing important social information, fear of offending contacts, discomfort or guilt from rejecting user requests. In fact how many people have felt offendedby somebody deleting them as an unwanted contact? Facebook has certainly become asocial dilemma especially with so much cyber bullying and predator behaviour goingaround. Many people who started using Facebook for positive purposes have now foundthat the website has negatively impacted their actual life which is rather sad.

I have personally made so many wonderful friends on Facebook, it has opened up another

dimension to communicate and network with people from all around the world.Unfortunately today's communities are often cyber communities where our main chats arevia posts on the inter net. We dont seem to have much time for actual face to facecommunication. It all becomes so impersonal, where people feel they can say hurtfulthings because they are not speaking directly face to face.

To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way weperceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication

    with others. ~ Anthony Robbins

Angels have featured in all the major religionsof the world, from Islam to Celtic and Hindu toNorse mythology. Images of angels haveappeared all over Asia Minor, in differentcultures in the ancient civilized world, and

westward into Greece and Italy. The earliestreligious representation of the angels datesback to the city of Ur, in the Euphrates Valley,c. 40002500 BCE. In Mesopotamia, therewere pictures of giant winged creatures, parthuman, part animal, known as griffins. InEgypt, Nepthys, and her twin sister Isis, protect Osiris with beautiful wings. In Norsemythology angel equivalents were theValkyries who were originally sinister spirits ofslaughter, dark angels of death who soaredover the battlefields like birds of prey, carrying out a warriors fate in the name ofOdin.

In fact every spiritual religion in every cultureon the planet has their concept of Angels andDemons although they are not always exactlythe same. Sometimes the theories coincideand overlap and there are others where theirideology is completely different. Sometimesthe theories coincide and overlap and thereare others where their ideology is completelydifferent.

Here are a few religions where angels arereferenced:

    Zoroastrianism

Zoroastrianism was founded some timebefore the 6th century BCE in Persia (Iran). In

this religion there are different angel-likefigures. It is believed that each person hadone guardian angel, called Fravashi. Theypatronize human beings and other creatures, and also manifested Gods energy.

    Hinduism

Hinduism has many different types of spiritualbeings who act in a similar capacity toAngels. One example is the minor gods, or

devas, referred to as the "shining ones". Theyare said to inhabit the higher astral plane ofthe divine world. Gods, devas, planets likeSani (Saturn), gurus (teachers), andancestors all play a protective role forhumans.

    Sikhism

Sikhism is a monotheistic religion founded in

Punjab in the 15th century by Guru Nanak. InIn Sikhism, the references to angelic or divinedeities focus on the liberation of the soul andultimately joining with Waheguru (meaningSupreme Being or creator). However, in earlyscriptures written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji hedoes indicate specific heavenly deities to helpin the judgment of the soul. Azrael is namedas the angel of death in the Guru GranthSahib, the holy scripture.

    Buddhism

The Buddhist equivalent of angels are devas,or celestial beings. Some schools of

    6/40

    Axis Mundi July 2011 5

Buddhism also refer to dharmapalas ordharma protectors. In Tibetan Buddhism, forinstance, devas are sometimes considered tobe emanations of bodhisattvas or enlightenedbeings. Different schools of Buddhism havedifferent important devas, as they are oftenderived from pre-Buddhist cultures andreligions and not from Buddhist philosophy.

    Theosophy

In Theosophy Devas are regarded as livingeither in the atmospheres of the planets ofthe solar system (Planetary Angels) or insidethe Sun (Solar Angels) (presumably otherplanetary systems and stars have their ownangels) and they help to guide the operationof the processes of nature such as the

process of evolution and the growth of plants;their appearance is reputedly like colouredflames about the size of a human. It isbelieved by Theosophists that devas can beobserved when the third eye is activated. Some (but not most) devas originallyincarnated as human beings.

    Ceremonial Magick, Kabbalah andthe Archangels

Ceremonial Magick is a formula oriented, complicated system of magick whichdemands a thorough knowledge of astrology,Kabbalah and other disciplines.

There are a couple of well-known rituals usedin Ceremonial Magick that incorporateArchangels; they are the Lesser BanishingRitual of the Pentagram (LBRP for short) andthe Rose Cross. In ceremonial magictraditions the four directions are commonlyrelated to the four archangels Michael,Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel (or Auriel).

In the book The Middle Pillar: The BalanceBetween Mind and Magic by Israel Regardie,Regardie describes how the influence of theArchangels can be invoked during the LBRP.The archangelic figures are to be seen asemanating a spiritual power that penetratesand cleanses the personality.

From a practical working viewpoint somePagans have accepted the dominions, rolesand correspondences of the angels fromceremonial or ritual magic and havesuccessfully integrated these into theirmagical practices. There are also an everincreasing number of pagans and otherspiritual movements that acknowledge a non-Christian/ Judean connection. They have

been developing their own personalinteraction with the Angels from a completelydifferent perspective, and are now redefiningthe Angelic Kingdom from their experientialobservations.

    Full Moon in Capricorn

  • 8/6/2019 Axis Mundi - July 2011

    9/40Axis Mundi July 2011 8

On the night of the actual full moon in Capricorn, SOL members gathered toconnect to the upcoming cosmic shifts which are centred on moving human kindtowards their higher aspirations. The Capricorn/Cancer Full Moon is an appropriatetime to shift our centre from the focus on our status, family, job, activities andrelationships; it is a time to search for our true path, to anchor our stability in ourown heart and to root our identity in our own unique destiny.

Originally the ritual was going to be conducted for the April full moon, but theuniverse had other ideas and so a car with engine trouble resulted in the ritual beingdelayed and performed for the Capricorn full moon. It was rather synchronistic afterall as this kabbalist ritual which involves the archangels seemed to fit in with arecent Facebook topic and an article being prepared for the Axis Mundi.

The participants of this full moonritual were gathered in the circle, every one faced east and the

Kabbalist Cross was performedfollowed by the Lesser BanishingRitual of the Pentagram. The circlewas then cast and commenced bythe power of the dragons. TheArchangels were then summonedto lend their power to the rite. ThenOur Lady was evoked, Queen ofthe Angels, Blessed are you

among women, Holy Goddess,Mother of Earth. Followed by theGod. He, whose name is many, shines through, Our Lord, God,Heavenly Father, In your powerand glory.

While meditating we were asked to observe a star. The star grows larger and larger, moving closer and closer becoming brighter and brighter, seeming to illuminate the

whole sky. From the centre of the star, a figure begins to form; this image is anangel. The angel gives a gift of a rose quartz crystal which vibrates with energy inyour hand. At this point each person is able to commune with the angel. At the endof the meditation the angel is now standing in front of you holding a cup of wateroffering it to you. You take the cup and drink the water. The angel says it is thewater of life, of rejuvenation and purification you feel its energy penetrating everycell within the body, feeling it balancing and harmonising, throughout the body.

Everyone then had an opportunity to share their experiences and then the circle was

closed and we all finished the evening with our usual feast. More informationregarding this circle and past circles can be found in our Book Of Shadows. Ournext Full Moon Circle will be held near Engadine on Friday August 12, 2011. Pleasecontact us for further details if you would like to attend.

Also known as Imbolg, Candlemas, Feast of Torches, Oimelc,Lupercalia and Brigids Day

Imbolc is the time of the beginning of beginnings, the time to

consider carefully what you will do with the year stretching beforeyou. Imbolc brings the awakening of the life force when the firstgreen shoots of bulbs appear. Life is stirring again and this marksthe Goddess recovering after giving birth while the newborn Godis depicted as a small child nursing from his mother. The God isgrowing, spreading sunshine all around causing things to grow. Itis a time to honour the feminine and get ready for spring. Atlmbolc, the Australian forests are bright with the colour yellow,

the Acacia trees coming into full flower. Until fairly recently, the1st of August was "Wattle day" in Australia (it has now beenmoved to the 1st of September).

The vision quest, like an initiation, hasmany purposes; the most important isfinding balance, clarity and focus from yourhigher consciousness, and from spirits ortotem animals that join you during thisjourney. Sometimes a simple meditation isall that is required to achieve a connectionwith your higher vision.

The vision quest is all about yourwillingness to accept the necessarychanges and messages that align with yourpersonal and spiritual objectives duringthis experience.

A vision quest is a quest for insights as towhere you are travelling physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Inancient cultures young warriors were sentout into the wild to listen to the voices ofthe living earth. The elders taught them todo this to find their role in life and to findtheir power animal helpers.

The person on the vision quest often spentdays or weeks in caves, on mountain tops,

on rivers, in the desert, waiting, andinviting the voices to come to them. Whenthey have heard the voices and saw theirvision, they would return to their tribeknowing who they were and what they wereto do.

A vision quest can help you unravelcomplications and mysteries in your life

and to help you find your way through any situation. In life we must face our self, ourshadow and learn to live from our strengths rather than our weaknesses. We must learn to

face our fears and we must find our ground and determine our place, whether as a solitary,in a partnership, or in the community. In this quest we are called to find our "medicine," ourown unique path to self-actualisation and to find that special gift that we can share with theworld.

Using a combination of journeying, ritual and meditation and through the awakening of allfive senses - smell, taste, touch, hearing and sight - you are taken on a journey intoyourself to discover your next step and how to get there.

As with a true vision quest, surround yourself in a circle with stones, crystals, items thatare special to you, that can add power and vibrations to your special journey. This is a very

powerful experience and will awaken in you, new power and a sense of freedom to be justyou!

At our recent Dark Moon circle, the group wentthrough a vision quest to connect with guides forour higher learning over the next 12 months. Myguide presented as a beautiful black jaguar with

the most piercing blue eyes. The advice that Ireceived was that I should see the pathwayswithin chaos and once understanding thepatterns of chaos, I should move without fear inthe darkness. As a shadow dancer I should testthe pathways before moving forward on unknownroads, and that I should be more discerning withthe people that I connect with as not everyoneshares the vision of SOL. I evidently need toreclaim my power and become smarter and morediscriminating in the projects I take on.

Evidently people with a Jaguar medicinehave the ability to multi-task. They tendto be loners and are very comfortablewith themselves. Which is quite correctto a point, I actually do multi-tasking butI am somewhat disorganised at themoment and yes, I am definitelycomfortable with myself and am happy

    to be alone.

Jaguars are at home in the dark withtheir excellent night vision. They movefearlessly, whether night or day, teaching us how to trust our personalinstincts. When the jaguar comes intoyour reality it is asking you to go within,to release your fears, to heal youremotions and to awaken your innersight.

Interestingly, the role of the personwhom the Jaguar journeys with is that ofthe Shaman, it is the destiny of theircalling. Shamans serve as a bridgebetween the worlds and as such canhear, see and communicate with theSpirit World.

Throughout the journey, the Jaguar soul will encounter numerous scenarios set up bythe psyche as a means to facilitate transformation, often they will drive themselves to

the point of physical, mental or emotional exhaustion until the breaking point isreached. Then, once they have burned themselves to the ground, they will arise muchlike the Phoenix in a new form with new eyes and a new cycle awaiting them.

May I walk with your fire ignitedMay it burn in the depth of my soulMay the cycles of life be my rhythmMay I dance with the ebb & the flowBrigid was first worshipped in ancientCeltic times; she was the daughter of thegreat Irish God Dagda, the 'Good Father'.She had two sisters who were also named

Brigid. Taken together, they were calledthe 'Three Mothers', 'Three Sisters', orsimply the Goddess Brigid.

Brigid is one of the most revered and wellknown Goddesses of all time. She is thedivine feminine, mother and hardenedwarrior. She is well known as a firegoddess and she radiates with light andwarmth. A goddess that carries a hammer

and commands the power of the flame, she is a Goddess that you could work withto give you the determination and theenergy to get that project done.

Like all women she is a multi-tasker, she isa healer, a mother, a poetess, a midwife, aprotector of children and livestock and asympathetic deity that will assist you infinding balance within yourself.

Brigid encourages you to be that warrior and stand in your power and not to be afraid tospeak up for what is right. The flame within you illuminates the truth, but it is up to you tocarry that flame forward so that all truth might be illuminated. The fires may burn withinyour heart, within your being, but they will not manifest in your world unless you yourselfhave the courage to do what you have to do. Brigid ignites you with inspiration and remindsyou that a life without the fire of courage is a life not fulfilled.

May Brigid bring you a light of hope during these dark, cold and dismal winter months. MayBrigids fire burn deep within your heart so that it can be the source of power to ignite that

creative spark to enable you to fulfil all your hopes and desires.

    Blessed Imbolc.

In the dead of winter The Horned Godsits upon the throne of the

underworld. Cold winds howlmournfully across the land. But soonthe Spring will return. Imbolc bringswith it the promise of a brighter andwarmer tomorrow.

The Horned God leaves theunderworld and looks at the Earth. His light begins to shine and hisblessings on the Earth begin new life.

As the Lord of the Underworld, hewas a guardian of the dead. Oncemore we see The Horned God takeon the role of the Lord of Light.Guardian and protector of the landand beasts. We also see him turn toThe Goddess at this time.

Through the love of The Goddess,The Horned God is renewed. The

wheel of the year turns. The cycle ofthe seasons progress. Just as the year progresses there are changes in our lives.Maybe you have had a change of career. Maybe you have had a change of lifestyle. Some change, like the cold of mid-winter is not always welcome but as the weatherturns so can our fortunes.

Recently I have been faced with looking for work but with that came the opportunityto spend a little more time with my daughters and to explore other interests. Onething I have learned in my journey as a Pagan is the importance of balance. Balanceis a part of

the natural order of thing. The Goddess is balanced by The Horned God. Thefeminine is balanced by the masculine and the bad is balanced by the good.

When we celebrate the cycles of the seasons, the changing from winter to spring. When we celebrate the hope for the coming season we also give thanks for thethings that have passed behind us.

We give thanks to The Horned God and to The Goddess for seeing us through thedarkness and for giving us the gift of the coming light. We stand outside in the sunand feel the first hints of the coming warmth. We look at the life beginning around

us and know the The Horned God is back watching over us.

A TALE OF SIX BROTHERSBy Amethyst

Some weeks ago I had a vision of 6 brothers &that they were joined and separated by an eventof historical proportions. This is their story.

In the far distant past, so far distant that this timehas gone beyond myth and legend, there liveThe People. They had no name for themselves, they simply existed. They hunted, gathered andfarmed, but always with care for theirenvironment. After all if they looked after it, theywere in turn provided for all of their wants.

The people lived in peace (relatively so) andharmony. They had rules or laws about howthings should be done, and if you disagreed withthese rules then you brought the matter up at theregular meetings. When one of the peoplereached adulthood, their name was placed on theroster of supervisors of these meetings. Theyonly served one sun cycle before their name wentto the bottom of the roster, which might mean thatthey never served again as a supervisor for therest of their life.

The People lived this way for longer thananyone could remember and The People grewfruitful and multiplied. But they lived according to

the rules/laws and life was mostly harmonious.Among The People lived a man and woman.

This couple had seven sons, and while they were

    all young, life was good.

But as the 7 sons grew to manhood, they beganto disagree about everything. The brothers couldnot agree with each other, and sometimes theynearly came to blows. This was unheard ofamong The People, and a meeting wasconvened to settle this families differences.

At this meeting, there was much heateddiscussion that went on for days and days withoutany agreement being reached. This had neverbeen heard of before in all their history. At lastone brother, the middle one, spoke up and saidthat they, The Family, must abide by thedecisions reached at this meeting. The meetingwas suspended while the 7 brothers talked overthe decisions reached.

Throughout the night, the next day and thefollowing night, there could be heard talking, arguing, more talking, more arguing and thensuddenly a loud scream rent the night, then

suddenly silence. Upon investigation, it wasfound that one of the brothers had been stabbedto death, but how had this happened. Only the 7brothers were in the room, no one else was there.

In all their history, this had never happenedbefore. The brothers were questioned individuallyabout what had happened? Each brother refusedto say who was responsible; they were at lastunited in something.

The People called a mighty council to decide

what to do, and the only thing they could decideon, was to send each of the brothers off into thewilderness. But each brother was to be sent in adifferent direction. This caused much angeramong the young men and women. They formeda council of their own & decided that they wouldgo into the wilderness with the brothers.

So The People were divided into 7 groups. Theelderly, sick or infirm stayed at the originalsettlement with the ones who did not want toleave; and each of the 6 brothers went in different

directions, taking their friends with them.

This was the ending of the time of peace.

    Meditation in the RoyalNational Park

Spheres of Light conduct meditations in theRoyal National Park, Sutherland on everythird Sunday in the month.

It is an opportunity to come together as agroup of like minds and to be at peace with

nature and experience a Shamanic journeythrough meditation. It allows nature to speakto you and become part of your innerlandscape in the same way that the ancientones paid attention to the signs and symbolsof the cosmos. The mystical path of directknowing is the world's oldest form ofcommunion with the Source and is based ona deep, living relation to Nature.

When you are in harmony with nature youcan hear the voice of the wind, you canunderstand the language of the birds and themessage they bring to you. Listen to thesound of the water as she sings her ancientsongs and feel the air blowing against yourface whispering its secrets to your inner soul. When you meditate with nature and you listento what it has to tell you, you connect withMother Earth and you become present to herinnate call.

Meditation is simply the process of stilling themind so that all wants, needs, and desiresdisappear which allows the Universe to enterand heal and to inspire.

    What is Meditation?

Meditation is the art of clearing the mind of allmundane thoughts, feelings and the generalnoise of day-to-day living. It is a state ofrelaxation and peace, a state where you can

control what you deal with and whichthoughts and feelings you allow to passthrough your consciousness.

When you meditate the brain enters analtered state of consciousness - known as'alpha. - a state also entered during deeprelaxation and dreaming. In the alpha statethe brain waves register at between eight andfourteen cycles. This is close to thebackground energy cycles of the Earth itself.

It is in the alpha state that we are able toenter and explore the other planes of realitythat include the astral and spiritual planescreating a situation where we are much moreopen and receptive to the energies that exist

all around us, rather than just those on themore commonly recognised physical plane.

    Brain Wave Activity

There are four different levels of brain waveactivity and these four levels represent thestages of activity, which change as we gofrom being mentally alert to a relaxed stateand then from sleep to deep, dreamless

    sleep.

According to their frequency, brain wavesare divided into the following four maingroups:

    Beta:- 14hz plusAlpha:- 8- 14hzTheta:- 4- 8hzDelta:- 0.3-4hz

    Beta, 14hz +

Most adults operate in this frequency whenthey are fully awake and alert. This isgenerally associated with left-brain thinking. The logical, critical, analytical thinking mind, the fully conscious mind.

    Alpha, 8-14hz

Generally associated with right brain thinkingor the subconscious mind. This is a relaxedstate of day dreaming, also associated withaccelerated learning

    Theta, 4-8hz

Deeply relaxed, dreaming, associated withthe subconscious mind, but the deepersubconscious that brings forth insights andbursts of creative ideas.

    Delta, 0.3-4hz

Generally associated with being unconscious, which is a no thinking state of regenerationand rejuvenation. Also a state of superconscious in meditation, body asleep, mindawake.

    Rhythmic Sounds

Music and meditation can be an ideal

combination to take you into higher states ofconsciousness. Studies have also shown thatvibrations of rhythmic sounds have aprofound effect on brain frequency. Inshaman traditions the periodic beating of adrum at 4.5 beats per second was the key totransporting the shaman to a higherconsciousness. The Buddhists chants aredesigned for the same reason.

Please check out Spheres Of Lights Healing

What are the physical benefits ofMeditation?

Meditation has the effect of slowingrespiration and decreasing the heart rate, thus lowering blood pressure. Because itcreates a state of deep relaxation, meditationhas several health benefits including

strengthening the immune system andimproving circulation, as well as increasingperceptual ability and decreasing anxiety. It isparticularly effective in managing ailmentsaggravated by tension.

    Visualisation

Did you know that the brain cannot tell thedifference between reality and visualization? We become stronger, physically and

mentally, when we relax and applyvisualisations to improve our health. If weconcentrate on that we are all able to moveourselves larger than the problem or the

illness, we are able to rise above theproblem. You may not be aware that we areall are able to move ourselves forward, mentally through the process of utilisingmeditative techniques. Start with creatingsimple images in your mind such as an imageof a tree, or an apple, and gradually you canstart building up quite complex images andactions.

    Grounding

At the end of any meditation it is important toensure that you are properly and fullygrounded. Grounding is a way of ensuringthat any excess energy that has beenaccessed through meditation is returned tothe earth rather than left buzzing around

ones system - it works in a similar fashion toa grounding wire in an electrical system. Afterbringing oneself out of the meditation, moveyour fingers, arms and legs. If you still feelungrounded you can simply visualise excessenergy flowing back into the earth for a fewmoments. If this does not seem to be enough, then kneel on the ground and put your palmsflat on the ground and do the same or simplygo hug a tree. Eating and taking a drink canalso help this process considerably.

Time sure does go fast. This months crystalwas due before I knew it and what a struggle!

I had started to write the article, only to findthat it was the wrong one, so I was back tothe question of which one is suitable for thismonth.

There are times when the most obvious ismissed; well I can say that it was the casewith this months crystal.

I literally had it under my nose. It is one that Iwear often and the first one I had forprosperity and good fortune, which bringsblessings of abundance to everyone whoworks with it.

It is the first piece I completed when I joinedat lapidary.

The crystal is Rhodonite. The original piece ofRhodonite was longer but I dropped it,snapping it in two. So I kept one piece, thelonger one, (see picture) my mother is therecipient of the other.

Rhodonite (Greek word rhodon which meansrose), it is available in dark red, flesh red withblack dendrite (meaning mineral crystallisedin a shape of a tree) inclusions.

As stone of love, Rhodonite works with theheart chakra, the centre of love, that of selfand others. The black inclusions in Rhodoniteassists in keeping you grounded andbalanced (Root chakra).

This stone calms emotions thus helping youto focus on what is important to you. It doesthis without being intrusive.

Rhodonite is also a protective stone and anally in unpleasant situations. My work at timesbecomes stressful and negative. I find thatwhen I wear my pendant I am calmer, morefocused and the negativity dissipates.

Rhodonite is a stone that promotes relaxationand a sense of wellbeing. Its loving energyopens your heart and mind to your potentialand purpose.

On the physical level Rhodonite assists inmany areas:

    Excellent wound healer

    Supports liver function stimulatingdetoxification

Limits the damage from wounds, fromsmall cuts to deep cuts

Promotes fast healing of wounds byeliminating toxins

Prevents the formation of scars fromopen spots and acne

    Relieves insect bites

    It aids bone growth

Very good for speech and hearingproblems

    Stimulates fertility

    Treats emphysema

    Treats auto-immune diseases andstomach ulcers

    Eases inflammation of joints andarthritis

    Supports liver functions stimulatingdetoxification

It is a good stone to use in rituals where astressful relationship needs to be healed. Thisstone helps to strengthen mantras, chanting, affirmations, singing and toning. If youpractice magic and/or healing, this stone canhelp you to promote an energetic balance

within you and throughout your immediateenvironment.

(The word lapidary means concernedwith stones, which is where one can formtone, mineral, gemstones, and othersuitably durable materials into decorativeitems such as engraved gems, includingcameos, or cabochons, and faceteddesigns. Wikipedia/Lapidary)

We may feel as though the year has flown byfaster than ever as Jupiter has flown throughAries in just 6 months. Now with Jupiter

entering the grounded sign of Taurus, ideas, projects and plans start to feel more stableand realistic; it seems more likely that theywill actually turn into something productive.Even if this seems not to be the case, it isexactly what needs to happenif youve hadgreat ideas and plans bugging you, now isthe time to develop them, put them to work, make something of them, or else they will justdisappear as yet another wonderful vision ofAries potential spent with nothing lasting to

    show for it.

Taurus is the zodiacal phase to implementthe bold visions of fiery Aries, to plant thoseideas in fertile soil, to let them grow towardstheir ultimate fruition. Physically supportthem, make them real and tangible. WithTaurus being fixed earth, the five senses arecentrally involved: we have to be able to see, hear, taste, smell or touch it to know it is real.Taurus is not concerned with the invisibleideas and inspirations, with the philosophicalframeworks or the grand visions thepurpose of Taurus is to ground these plans,

to substantiate them, make them real anddeliverable, to give form to them.

Jupiter will stay in Taurus until June 2012, sowe have some 13 months in which to bringthese creative ideas down to earth. The

drawback with Taurus however is inertia, getting stuck, or getting mired in the sensualexperience and not wanting to move on andwith Jupiter this can develop into a sort ofover-identification with physical value, wallowing in the delights of the physical worldbut not leaving anything lasting or solid onwhich to build or develop further. Theshadow side of Jupiter in Taurus is avariceand cupidity, excessive identification withpossessions and physical value, beauty,

sensuousness and money. It is wise toremember that this like all zodiacal phases is but one stage in an ongoing process, astage of physical growth and healthyidentification with what is of lasting value, withwhat can be a physical foundation for thedevelopments of the future. So make thingsreal and of lasting quality, but dont confusequality with quantity!

Taurus is also a sign that resonates strongly

with the Moon in classical astrology theMoon is said to be exalted in Taurus. Thereis a deep earthy femininity to this sign, aconnection with Mother Nature and all that isfecund and fertile sexuality, beauty, thebody, pleasure aspects of human naturethat connect us to deeper instinctual drivesand that point to our commonality with theother animals, plants and living things aroundus. The Earth Mother. The fixity of Taurusgives intense focus, and when its natural and

undeniable truths are denied or ignored it iscapable of powerful and frightening fury, justlike the bull charging at the red flag. There ishere a primal urge to ground truths and to

gain natural and healthy satisfaction ofdesires and it wont rest until that hashappened. Stamina, sustained forces, a kindof momentum borne of whole-bodyidentification, endurance, lustiness andnatural resilience these are the qualitiesthat deliver real results. Not giving up is akey here. The fortitude to stay the course.

Real rewards come to those that do exactlythat.

As Jupiter enters Taurus it sextiles Neptuneas Neptune begins its journey retrograde.Due to Neptunes position in Pisces a sextilebetween these two planets in these twosigns, has not been experienced since 1857-58. Neptune and Jupiter travel well together,

both attuned to expansive energy and Taurusand Pisces fair well together too as thefeminine qualities of groundedness andreality merge with dreams and ideals and

beautifully come together in divineunderstanding. Will we notice the differencewhen Neptune retrogrades back to Aquariusin August, leaving only a few months againwith these two planets in Pisces and Taurusfor a few months from Feb till June 2012.Lets take this opportunity to channel somedivinely inspired yet real outcomes. That areusually more difficult to grasp.

Jupiter will remain in Taurus till June 2012.After a retrograde period from 30 August2011 until 26 December 2011, it begins its journey again direct through Taurus at zerodegrees, giving us all enough time to makesure things are done well and completedproperly.

    Adrianas Book Corner

    Merry meet!

In this issue I interview Jane Meredith abouther new book, APHRODITES MAGIC.Celebrate and heal your sexuality. It waswonderful meeting Jane, her soul inspirespeace and joy; I hope I can meet her again inritual or over a cup of coffee. To know more about Janes work, visitwww.janemeredith.com

    1. Can you tell us about your life as Priestessand writer?

Jane believes she has been able to weavethem together with her book. She has alwaysbeen a writer, however came to associatewriting with being a Priestess lately. For herbeing a Priestess of the Goddess is someonewho has a connection to the Divine, but alsoa responsibility to the Community and theEarth, and writing comes as part of thatresponsibility to communicate to others whatshe has experienced.

    2. What inspires you to write?

Jane loves words, language, and the Englishlanguage. And she love books! They are trulymagical. She devours them, their meaning,

and their sounds. Jane loves the Qabbalistcrelation to the word in that it is more than asymbol, it is the thing itself, with which youcan connect (through what it represents); it isa creation in a magical context. She loves thefact that words are alive when you put themdown on paper, and then when someonepicks it up and reads it.

    3. What and who has influenced you in yourwriting?

Jane said that every book she has ever readhas influenced her. She is a very criticalreader, thinker, person, so part of what hasinfluenced her is that critical part of herself,as she get inspired to be practical as a writer,to not only give theory but show how to put itinto your everyday life.

A person who has influenced Jane in her

writings is Emma Restall Orr; she is a Druidin England and she wrote a wonderful bookabout year of her own rituals, how she didthem, what influenced them, etc. (the book isSpirits of the Sacred Grove, 1998)

    4. In your view, what is/are the mainteaching/s of Paganism?

Paganism is an umbrella term, but in generalit is about valuing personal experience (more

than received teaching), and the recognitionthat humans are part of the Universe. It isEarth-centred practise that is embodied, which means you in your body and the bodyof the Goddess which is Earth, and that

  • 8/6/2019 Axis Mundi - July 2011

    32/40

    Axis Mundi July 2011 31

means honouring Earth and all forms of life,as they are all sacred, humans included (andnot being any more or any less).

    5. What does the Goddess mean to you andwhat can you tell us about how you relate toHer?

Janes relationship to the Goddess hasshifted and developed over the years.Originally it was very personal, Jane feels shehasnt lost that but now it has broadened aswell. It started with her exploration of Innana,Persephone, Isis, now it is the Earth and all init, the Goddess as the life force. Janesrelationship as being part of the Earth hasalso shifted, from being in the Mother, tobeing a Mother as well, in the sense of being

    a protector for the Earth.

Sometimes Jane relates to the Goddess byswimming in the ocean; she feels cradled byher waves, carried in her water.Jane may also invoke a particular Goddess attimes, depending on what she is working on;she invokes them and then wait to see whatunfolds, what the Goddess wants to give her.At present she told me she is invoking Freya. We are all aspects of the Goddess and the

God; so you need to honour yourself andothers if you want to honour them.

    6. How did you get into Earth-basedspirituality?

    Jane answered with no hesitation and with alot of passion that she was born to it. Shewasnt raised in any particular religion, butalways loved fairy tales and myth. She talkedto the trees, listened to Nature, to the rivers;

she has always felt a strong relationship tothe Earth.

    7. What would you say a Modern Pagan is?

An eclectic, Paganism for Jane is justemerging and evolving. People locked awayin their private Covens is on the out, Janebelieves there is going to be a cross-over withpeople honouring the Earth as sacred, practising their spirituality in more everyday

    ways.

    8. What is the most important thing for youabout your spirituality?

It defines who I am. It is my backbone, myinner core. The essence is the place for me,the seed for me. There is certainty; Janesaid she hasnt experienced doubt regardingher spirituality, there is no place for doubt asthis is a spirituality that is lived, embodied.

    9. Can you tell us about The Circle of Eight?

Jane noted it all started with a lot of travelling, from the North to the South hemisphere, backand forth, so much travelling that she endedup quite confused about which season tocelebrate when and where as she could beleaving right in Summer, arriving somewhere

else ready to celebrate Yule. So she wantedto make a Magical system that would makesense wherever you might be, somethingconsistent across the planet.

For example, Samhain and Beltane areopposite each other in the Wheel, but theyhave more in common than they do with theseasons before and after.

The Circle of Eight is like a compass, a circle

with 8 points on it, marking N, NE, etc. Janealso wanted it to be localised, creating a ritualthat is completely relevant for how it is whereyou are; it is also based on Celtic tradition.

Ideally you have a group of 8 people, whowould work on each direction for a month. Then you move on to the next direction andso on. Jane also wanted to find 8 actualplaces which she and her group visited andthen would call into their ritual. These 8

places are within natural parks (open toeveryone) and make a loose circle.

    Axis Mundi July 2011 32

It is based on a workshop Jane runs andcovers 7 aspects to do with womenssexuality (the next workshop will be inSydney on 30 31 June; (for moreinformation visit Janes pagewww.janemeredith.com); those 7 aspectshave related to the Chakras. Jane wanted the

book to be practical, embodied, nottheoretical.

In her book, she works down the Chakrasinstead of up, from the Crown to the BaseChakra which is the genitals, working throughto the core of womens sexuality andwomens relation to their own body, their ownrelation to the Goddess, the sacred feminineon Sexuality. It is for the womans own sake,to improve the relationship with their own

body and their own sexuality; it is notdesigned to improve relationships with others.Aphrodite is the perfect Patroness for thiswork as she is not defined by relationships;she has her own sexuality and is in love withit.

The book is hands-on, if you do all exercisesand rituals you end up with 7 cords, whichyou can then weave into a Magical Girdle, like Aphrodite had, to heal and celebrate yoursexuality. (You can get the book in any goodbookstore such as Phoenix Rising, theFeminist Bookshop or Adyar, or Amazon)

    11. You mention the light and dark aspectsof the Goddess quite regularly. How do youwork with these aspects?

Jane said she has worked a lot with the darkaspect of the Goddess. By dark she means

hidden, sacred, to do with the mysteries. The

light and the dark are both parts of one, likeday and night are both parts of one.

Dark Goddess holds powers that are belittledin our society. In her realms we can find a lotof the Sacred that has been lost to us.Working with the Dark Goddess is related, but not the same as Shadow work, for youare working with the Mysteries, withInitiations, not with your personality as inShadow work.

    12. You have mentioned that you are workingtowards your next book, Journey to the DarkGoddess, what can you tell us about it?

It is going to be also a hands-on book abouthow to journey to and back from the Dark

Goddess. The book has a strong basis inmyth and Jane works mainly with the Mythsof Persephone, Innana, Psyche, but alsomentions the story of Christ and his deathand resurrection.

There are 4 parts of the book: preparing forthe descent, descending, staying down withinthe Dark Goddess, and ascending back.Jane commented she is planning to have itpublished by mid next year.

    13. Three most influential books in your lifeare

As a writer but also as a human being, Janeread all three books in her 20s and they haveremained very powerful in her memory:

    - Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban (1980),which is a science fiction novel where a lot ofthe language is made up by the author. It is

post-apocalyptic and speaks of a newmythology.- Gyn/Ecology by Mary Daly (1978), which isa theoretical book about the oppression ofwomen under patriarchy. Jane believes itsthe most powerful analysis of patriarchy.- The Lesbian Body by Monique Wittig(1975), which is a fictional book about whatwould happen if there was only woman bodyin the world. Its an exploration of whatfemininity would be if there was no

    masculine.
