Lenten Series
Redeemer Lutheran Preschool 2018-2019 School Year
OPEN ENROLLMENT IS NOW OPEN
At The Crossroads
A Lenten Midweek Sermon Series
Many of those involved in the story of the Passion of Christ came to a crossroads and had to decide which way to go. Some chose well, some did not, and the stories of each of these experiences at various crossroads helps us to know what to do and what not to do when we encounter similar crossroads in our own lives. In the end, each service in the series reveals in some way how Christ and his cross help us to decide which path is in line with God’s will for us. Please join us each week for a soup and salad dinner at 6 p.m. followed by worship at 7 p.m.
March 21: Lent 6 – Obedience • Matthew 26:36-46
Our Easter Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. following the Sunrise Service. Egg dish, breakfast rolls, juice, and coffee will be served.
Our Continental Breakfast will be served at 10 a.m. fruit, rolls, muffins, juice, and coffee will be served. Everyone is invited to join us for this special event.

The Gospel in Seven Words
Imagine that a friend or family member who is unfamiliar with your Christian faith asks you to summarize the gospel. She isn’t looking for a laundry list of doctrines. She has no interest in hearing you recite the Apostles’ Creed. She wants to get to the heart of the matter. “In seven words or less,” she says, “tell me what you believe as a Christian.”
What would you say? How would you put it? Are you prepared to confess your faith in Jesus?
To be a Christian is to “believe with your heart” and “confess with your mouth” the good news of God’s love for us in Christ (Romans 10:9-10). Peter calls us to be prepared always to give a reason for the hope we have as Christians (1 Peter 3:15). Christians have the best news in the world to share! But are we prepared to share it?
During this season of Lent, we’re going to prepare to celebrate Holy Week by sharing why Holy Week is so important. Our weekend worship services will serve as opportunities to consider the many ways in which the Scriptures proclaim Jesus. During the week, each of you will be working on your own summary, with the hopes that all of us are more prepared to share the good news of Jesus. Come and join us this Lent, and join us by crafting your own confession of the gospel!

Jeremiah 31:31-34
31 "The time is coming," declares
the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them," declares the LORD.
33 "This is the covenant I will
make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
34 No longer will a man teach his
neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
Hebrews 5:1-10
1Every high priest is selected from
among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2He is able to deal gently with
those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.
3This is why
he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
4No one takes this honor upon
himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was.
5So Christ also
did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father."
6And he says in another
place, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
7During the days of Jesus' life on
earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
8Although
he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered
9and, once
made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him
10and was designated
by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Mark 10:32-45 32
They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him.
33 "We
are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles,
34 who will
mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise."
35Then James and John, the sons
of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask."
36"What do you want me to do for
you?" he asked.
37They replied, "Let one of us sit
at your right and the other at your left in your glory."
38"You don't know what you are
asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?"
39"We can," they answered. Jesus
said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,
40but to
sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared."
41When the ten heard about this,
they became indignant with James and John.
42Jesus called them
together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and
their high officials exercise authority over them. 43
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
44and
whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.
45For even the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
