RESEARCH

METHODOLOGY

Page 12: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

SECONDARY DATA ANALYSIS

Source of data

Secondary data

In research, Secondary data is collecting and possibly processing data by people other than the researcher in

question. Common sources of secondary data for social science include censuses, large surveys, and

organizational records (Mantel). In sociology primary data is data you have collected yourself and secondary

data is data you have gathered from primary sources to create new research.. Secondary sources take the role

of analyzing, explaining, and combining the information from the primary source with additional

information.

Secondary data analysis is commonly known as second-hand analysis. It is simply the analysis of preexisting

data in a different way or to answer a different question than originally intended.

Secondary data analysis utilizes the data that was collected by someone else in order to further a study that

you are interested in completing. Sources of people from secondary year data classified into qualitative and

quantitative. Examples of qualitative sources are biographies, memoirs, newspapers, etc. Quantitave sources

include published statistics (e.g., census, survey), data archives, market research, and etc.Today, with

Internet capabilities, thousands of large scale datasets are at the click of a mouse for secondary data analyst.

Globally, there are many sources available. These sources can arrive from the data arranged by governmental

and private organizations, to data collected by any social researcher. Secondary data analysis is a growing

research tool in our modern day society. Social scientists have the opportunity to explore massive amounts of

secondary data. Sources for these data are vast, yet there are some concrete sources in need of mentioning:

Page 13: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

Secondary data is classified in terms of its source – either internal or external. Internal, or in-house data, is

secondary information acquired within the organization where research is being carried out. External

secondary data is obtained from outside sources.

The two major advantages of using secondary data in market research are time and cost savings.

The secondary research process can be completed rapidly – generally in 2 to 3 week. Substantial useful

secondary data can be collected in a matter of days by a skillful analyst.

6

When secondary data is available, the researcher need only locate the source of the data and extract the

required information.

Secondary research is generally less expensive than primary research. The bulk of secondary research data

gathering does not require the use of expensive, specialized, highly trained personnel.

Secondary research expenses are incurred by the originator of the information.

data, a real picture of Ayur Herbals comes in front which shows that there is lack of brand awareness among

people.

SECONDARY DATA

HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

History of the company spells the triumph of burning desire, courage to face the entire hardihood en route

turning dreams into a reality and a lot of spadework, of course. At this time, Ayur has more than 55 variants

in Hair, Skin & Face Care Products. But it all started with a single product- Hair Removing Wax.1985 was

the year when Ayur wore an identity of a company with a promise to enhance the beauty of Indian women

and then, women across the world. Avid success of this single product fuelled this company to introduce

Herbal Hair & Skin Care Products in the market. Very soon these products became ‘the first choice’ amongst

women seeking for genuine beauty products in the horde of chemical based beauty enhancing products.

Ayur’s success story has been scripted by three ambitious brothers with exceptional expertise. The eldest

brother, S.Raminder Singh Narang, is the Chairman of M/s Three-N-Products Pvt. Ltd. His expertise and

Page 16: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

dexterity has made Ayur a leading brand, to a great extent. The youngest brother, S.Manminder Singh, is the

Managing Director of M/s Three-N-Products Pvt. Ltd. He may miss the ball while playing lawn tennis but he

make sure not to miss a ball in business.

The dynamic second brother, S.Dilvinder Singh, is the M.D. of R.D.M.Traders Pvt.Ltd. His far-sightedness,

perseverance & spadework have helped the Company to achieve phenomenal success in such a short span of

time.

Company Profile

Ayur as a brand name is synonymous with the products which are herbal, with all the goodness

of nature. Ayur Herbals seeks to provide Indian women with products made from natural extracts, which are

not only safe but also bring out their natural beauty, as Ayur means – LIFE. Ayur began in 1985-with a

single product, a hair removing wax. Buoyed with its success they decided to enter both the herbal hair care

and skin care market by rooting their products in Ayurveda. Now, they have around 50 variants in hair and

skin care products. In Rs. 315 crore herbal cosmetic industry Ayur’s share is almost 32%. For this they

studied patent formulations in Ayurveda and sought out rare herbs and roots from remote areas to create a

wide range of herbal beauty products for women, in both India and abroad.

The company has its own R&D department. They have a team of scientists who are

constantly working to improve their old products and formulate new ones. For every new product scientists

take raw materials and put them through quality tests, before putting them to form the final product.

Ayur is targeted at women in the upper and middle class segment. Today the brand enjoys a

high volume of sales in the domestic herbal beauty care market, as well as in foreign market such as USA,

UK, Mauritius, Canada, Russia, West Indies, South-East Asia and UAE.

Ayur has a network of 2000 distributors nationwide to cater to lakhs of retail outlets

throughout the country. Besides their commitment to quality, it is their strong distribution network that has

made Ayur a household name today. Ayur has achieved a phenomenal success of late. With their turnover

touching Rs. 101 crore mark and plans to cross Rs. 125 crore mark this financial year. Ayur’s hair care range

includes items for all types of hair. The hair care products are enriched with natural cleansers and

conditioners like heena, rosemary, lemon, and coconut oil. These rare combinations are the outcome of

strong R&D network at Ayur laboratories. Available in three different sizes, shampoos are, as always,

reasonably priced. Ayur skin care products contain vitamins and natural oils which rejuvenate all skin types.

Besides this, they also have face packs which have been formulated to tackle specific problems. Ayur has

also ventured into the health care segment with about 8 variants in this product line. It includes products to

control Diabetes, high blood pressure, purify blood, etc. They are made from the herbal extracts which do

wonders for the health.

10

Page 18: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

Ayur has recently launched the first ever super hydrating, vitaminised extra rich quick

absorbing herbal winter care lotion and also almond nourishing cream and Sanwali saloni cream (natural

fairness cream with UV protection).

Ayur had expanded its product range to southern India, back in June 99’. With an overwhelming

response from the consumers as well as the sellers they are increasing their distribution network and product

awareness through media support.

According to Mr. Dalvinder Singh Narang, ( M.D Ayur Herbals ), “ the future of cosmetics industry is

very competitive, so to stay in the business one has to upgrade its products and come out with new

products to satisfy the growing needs of the customers”.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT BY AYUR HERBALS

AYUR’S research & development domain makes it sure to offer the quality products, no matter how much

pain they go through for this, and they have no complaints for this. Ayur’s independent R&D center is

divided into different sections to test, receive and inform. Ayur is well-equipped with foreign advanced

equipments to result in most efficient and quality products.

The R&D sphere consists of ample experience and strong ability of scientific research, always giving ways

to new formulas and making imitations according to clients’ requirements, controlling and improving

manufacturing technological process. Ayur’s R&D keeps close scientific research assistance with the expert

dealing with chemistry and medicine.

EFFECTIVE TIPS BY EXPERTS AT AYUR HERBALS

For damaged hair

If the hair is damaged, looks dull, doesn't seem to have volume and not bouncy, I then recommend using the

shampoo which contain Henna and Tulsi. Henna works as a good conditioner while Tulsi is a strong tonic for

the hair which helps to give the hair body and bouncy. It also helps to reduce the graying of the hair. Thus,

use the shampoo containing henna and Tulsi twice a week regularly. It will make the damaged hair healthy,

shinny, soft and gives volume and bounce.

For dry skin

Due to the technological development in the cosmetic sector, many substitutes for the

soap bar are available in the market. Use of soap makes the skin dry and starts

developing white scale in the skin. So to get rid of this problem it is better to use the

Skin bath gel which helps to make skin soft, subtle and healthy. Appearance of the

scales will be reduced. This gel makes you feel fresh after taking bath.

22

Page 30: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

Anti-blemishes

Because of the pollution the pores in the skin get clogged with dust particles which in

turn develop into blemishes. Exposure to the bright sun also helps to develop the

blemishes in the skin, which you will find in your face. This blemish is developed by

outside agents. This can be controlled by using the "Ayur's Anti blemishes cream'

regularly.  It contains special Vitamins A, C, and E. It is very beneficial for the skin.  It

nourishes the skin and helps to reduce the appearance of the blemishes in the face.

Feet care

Because of the dryness in the winter months, dryness and heel cracks may develop in

the feet. So, during the winter months one has to take a special care of the feet to keep its

skin smooth and soft.

Each evening clean and wash the feet thoroughly, and towel dry. Apply the “Ayur Pedi

Heal “(Rich foot cream) and massage gently for about 10 minutes.

Next morning wash the feet with luke warm water. Follow these instructions regularly--

the cracks and dryness will disappear, and the skin will become soft.

The cream contains nutrients—including aloe-vera, coco butter and the paraffin wax.

These substances have astringent and moisturizing properties which to remove dead

cells, soften the skin, and heal the cracks.

Hair Care

The problem of dandruff usually increases during the winter months.

Regular use of “Ayur’s anti dandruff shampoo” relieves the scalp of the flaky dead cells

restoring its ph balance.

This shampoo increases the shine and luster of the hair, and is mild enough for regular

use.

Page 31: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

Hand Care

Generally during the winter months, the hands get dry, cracked and rough.

“Ayur gentle hand scrub “contains avocado oil which works as a good conditioner,

apricot and almond grains which act as an exfoliate and aloe-vera which is also a good

antiseptic.

Regular use of “Ayur gentle hand scrub” will invigorate the skin, activate deep cell

renewal, and provide effective treatment for excessive dryness.

Growth Plans

Ayur Herbals has its growth plans which constitute mainly its new range i.e.-

Aloe Vera Magique which constitute its major products like Shampoos, Conditioner, Bath Gels,

Foot Scrubs, Foot lotions, Hand Scrubs, Hand lotions, Sunscreen lotion, Anti-ageing gel, Anti-wrinkle

gel, Anti-blemish gel, Under-eye gel, Tonor, Cleansing milk and moisturiser.

This new range is mainly for the premium segment of the society since unlike the existing products of the

company, these new ones are somewhat costlier.

The company mainly plans to enter into those segments where the existing products of Ayur are not so

much in demand. It is a general perception that Ayur products are low priced products with satisfying quality

and so to enter with this is its growth plan.

FUTURE PLANS OF AYUR

Ayur to enter alcohol-based drinks:

New Delhi: The Rs 300-crore herbal beauty care and cosmetic major Ayur Herbal, is entering the alcohol-

based drinks segment which it might retail under a different brand name. The group is also planning to invest

in a vodka manufacturing facility.

The Ayur group plans to use its expertise in the herbal segment in the emerging white spirits market, which

has been growing at about 35 per cent in India during the last three years.

The plant and the beverage business will be under another firm of the group.

FINDING AND

ANALYSIS

SWOT ANALYSIS

Page 38: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

1. STRENGTHS:-

Herbal nature- The product of Ayur herbals are totally made up of herbs and natural ingredients. No

chemicals are present so that there are no any side effects. So, the quality is very fine and natural.

Low Pricing- The products are of low price so that every segment of society can buy easily.

High volume- With respect to the other players in the market Ayur herbals provide high quantity in

low price so the price conscious customers generally prefer.

Distribution channel- The distribution channel is very fine comprising of total 1800 distributors

covering the total areas in such a manner that the products are distributed thoroughly to the retailers

and consequently the customers.

2. WEAKNESSES:-

The promotional activities are very less so that the customers are less aware about the

products.

Direct marketing and exclusive retailing are not present.

The products are not available with any consumer offer and schemes.

The advertisements of the products are also very less. The ads are given generally in

print media but very little in electronic media.

30

3. OPPORTUNITIES:-

Recently launched Aloe vera magique is going to target the upper class and premium class

segments to generate more revenue.

Page 39: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

The southern parts of India can be easily covered since the herbal products are very much preferred there and

Ayur Herbals can become the leading company because of its herbal nature and natural ingredients in the

products and hence it can become able to attract people more.

Still the southern, western and eastern regions are left to be occupied. The market share can be

increased from these regions.

4. THREATS:-

The competitors like Hindustan Lever Ltd., Procter & Gamble dominate the market completely. Some

small players like Dabur, Cavin Care, Himalaya, etc. are the threats for Ayur Herbals.

CHAPTER-6

CONCLUSION

Conclusion

Page 41: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

The total cosmetic industry is worth Rs. 3000 crores while skin care is worth Rs. 1200 crores. The company

has total market share of 101 crores and it has 40% share in the herbal sector. Although 50% of the market is

covered by HLL even after this, there are plenty of opportunities of market expansion and market

penetration. Ayur’s market share is not very significant but if a better try is given to rebuild the product and

its marketing strategy, things might change other way around.

The most important point is that AYUR HERBALS is a Brand but due to some lack of awareness about the

products and its qualities, it is back in the market.

Today’s customers become more dynamic and choosy; the time came when product would depend upon

customers’ needs and aspiration. So, this can’t be ignored. Understanding the aspiration of the customers

becomes the key success for the products.

For the survival in this cut-throat competition era, one should have some sort of differentiation for

capturing the greater attention of the market, further which can give competitive advantage.

Since the products are very much in demand in the rural market but the urban market should also be

covered.

The company can do some promotional activities to create awareness about the products, can do direct

marketing as well as exclusive retailing for its sale and last but not the least it should also give ads on

electronic media frequently along with print media in which it has already 48% share.

Thus from the above points it is clear that the company is a brand and if it concentrate on its present strategy

by keeping not only the customers’ point of views but also its rapid progress in this competitive era, it can

reach very high in the industry.

LIMITATIONS OF

STUDY

LIMITATIONS

Page 43: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

Although the project has been worked out at its best yet there are some limitations, which cannot be

overlooked. Had these limitations been overcome, the findings would be accurate.

Some of the limitations are:

1) Time constraint:

Time was really a limiting factoring the project. It’s really difficult to work out such a large project

between two months time.

2) Data constraint:

All the data that has been collected for this project, has been taken from secondary sources like websites,

magazines, newspapers and book.

SUGGESTIONS AND

RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendations

Page 45: Ayur Herbals-Ashish (1)

Ayur Herbals is a brand but it is mostly recognized and used in the lower segment of the society and also

the rural areas. The company’s turnover is 101 crore but the company needs to increase the turnover. One of

the most important negative points of the company is that inspite of its long product length and a large

number of products, the awareness is very low. People do not know the number of products it has.

From my point of view it can be recommended to the Ayur Herbals that it should :-

Concentrate on creating awareness about its products in the market.

Should provide ads in both print and electronic media.

There should be better packaging and also improved quality.

There should also be some schemes and consumer offers as well as promotional offers

whenever any promotion is done.
