The Art Quilters have an exhibit in the Mobile Mu-

casing our newest works. Please stop by and take a
look, and remember, we welcome anyone who is inter-
ested in becoming an art quilter, no experience neces-
sary.

been accepted into the 2018 New Quilts From An Old
Favorite contest.
AUGUST RETREAT
Ladies, I'm looking for ideas for August Retreat.
Please send me an email if you have an idea that you
feel will be a learning experience for all. Remember
we need to keep extra costs down to a minimum.
With these ideas, I will send out a survey for all to
help choose what we can possibly do.
Thank you, Susan [email protected]

I know everyone is busy shopping, cooking and deco-
rating. I hope that we will be able to get a little quilting
squeezed in our crazy schedules. Being able to create
something always helps me to escape and relax.
Our November meeting with the QOV Presentation
was very inspirational. So much work goes into prepar-
ing and presenting the quilts.
Thank you, Joyce, for all the work you and the ladies
of the Guild do in order for these quilts to be made.
On December 9, 2017 at 9:30, the Guild Board will
meet at Springhill Baptist Activity Center. All officers
and committee chairs are asked to attend if possible.
Our December meeting as always will be our Christ-
mas Luncheon. Please bring serving utensils and slice
anything such as pies, cakes, etc. If you are not able to
bring a dish, there is a kitty that helps to pay for paper
products and drinks.
Remember to finish those resolutions!!! I still think we
need to wear our ugly or pretty Christmas sweaters. Let’s
be festive.
January brings the Country Store as our program. For the
newbies, this is an excellent time to clean your sewing room
and bring all those “why did I buy this” and sell it. You
can’t imagine what some of us will buy
Also the retreat is in January and the deadline to sign up is
January 9th. This always is a great time to catch up with
UFOs and unwind from the holidays.
Lori Hickman is collecting loose change
for the Child Advocacy Center. She plans
to present the check in December.
Bonnie Johnson is still selling Quilt
Guild Calendars. Remember the proceeds
go directly into our general fund. Merry Christmas, Ann
After call to order by President Ann Singleton and inspi-
ration by Bonnie Johnson, Joyce Reed presided over a
Quilts of Valor Presentation. She also read some moving
testimonials from previous recipients.
Minutes of the September meeting were approved.
Treasurer Peggy Stone reported money market balance of
$8, 224.53 and checking account balance of $11,785.47.
Mrs. Singleton announced that an ACQG Board meeting
will be December 6, 2017 at 9:30 AM at Springhill Baptist
Activity Center. Shawn Sumrall reported attendance of 63
members and 9 guests. Total membership is now 191.
Yearbooks and membership cards are ready.
Mary Warfield presented her report of the retreat audit.
All of the figures were correct.
No workshops are scheduled for November, December,
or January. In February Shawn Sumrall will teach a paper-
piecing Mariner’s Compass wall hanging project.
December program is the Christmas Luncheon. Please
bring a covered dish with a serving utensil and pre-slice if
needed. Program for January is the annual Country Store.
Contact Terrie Garmendia, program chair, to reserve table
space.
Additional announcements are as follows: Dates for Re-
treat are January 18-21, 2018. Registration is open with
deadline at the January 9th meeting. Bonnie Johnson an-
nounced a special price on the quilt calendars: two for $15.
There are 120 left; all proceeds go to the quilt guild. Linus
Quilts group meets on the first Thursday in December at
the Nevius Road Senior Center. The off-year opportunity
quilt will be ready to show in January. Thirty-nine ex-
change blocks have been submitted, 13 remain for sale.
Resolutions are due at the December meeting with prizes
for completions. Bring a fat quarter for each unfinished
resolution. Ideas for 2018 resolutions were given. The
library check-out plan has been presented to Night Guild.
Art group’s next project will be “The Story of Me,” a
folk/primitive art quilt. Contact Susan Mogan for more
information. The group’s next show will be December 4-
5 at the Mobile Museum of Art.
Barbara Smith needs a few more tote bags for the
homeless women of McKimmie Place. Make a bag and
have a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Block Ther-
apy.
Ways and Means chair Lori Hickman will take the
money collected for Child Advocacy Center next month.
She informed new guild members about the $5 guild pin
for sale. Birthday gift winners were Martha Rowland,
Georgia McCain, Ann Hetrick, Carol Peterson, Susan
Mogan, and Peggy Stone.
The meeting adjourned after Show and Tell Quilts were
displayed.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ann Hetrick

NIGHT GUILD NEWS Twelve members were present on November 16th at Christ United
Methodist Church, 2nd floor room 204, at 6:30pm. Some critical
business was taken care of, and library books turned back in.
Shawn Sumrall gave a "hands on" tutorial on folded Christmas
ornaments. Shawn brought all the supplies that were needed
so each member had the opportunity to make a folded ornament.
Plans were made for our Christmas Party on Dec. 14th. It will
be held at Bonnie Johnson's home, and each attendee is asked to
bring a side dish. Thank you Bonnie for being so gracious. We will
have a $10 gift exchange. Linda Evans, Chairman, Night Guild

a dozen venues in November alone. This group rocks!! I have only 2 names left on the list of those to receive quilts and they will get
theirs in January due to November scheduling conflicts. PS: This does not include any of the quilts done in Baldwin County by
their group. Thanks for the unwavering support from so many in our guild. It is greatly appreciated.

QUILTS OF VALOR
As we bring Nov. to a close, Stars over Mobile has done 10 different QOV presentations from the guild meeting, to Baldwin Co.
High School in Bay Minette, to a private home. We have awarded almost 50 quilts this month alone and over 100 for this year. We
have worked on our list of veterans and almost have everyone on it with a quilt, and are starting to sew for those we know will come
our way next year. Hopefully, we can help the state with one or two extra quilts for their long list of veterans before our list be-
comes unwieldy again. Please join us if you can. Thanks to everyone in the guild for their wonderful support this year. Baldwin
Co. has done a similar amount of awards as well this past year thanks to Pattilynne Miller and Cathy Baldwin and crew.
God Bless,
Joyce Reed
ART QUILTING WORKSHOP
Internationally recognized teacher and art quilter Susan Lenz is coming to Mobile to teach her
"HOT" workshop, sponsored by the local SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) group. The
workshop has 4 spots left, and is now open to non-SAQA members. The dates are Jan 24th and
25th, 2018, and will be at University Church of Christ on Ziegler Blvd (where the art group
meets). Cost is $155, plus a $20 supply fee to be paid the day of the workshop. There are no
other supplies needed: Susan brings everything with her. The HOT workshop is a very innova-
tive technique involving stitching layers of different fabrics, and then melting away portions to
create a unique piece of fabric art. Here is a link to view the type of work for this work-
shop: http://www.susanlenz.com/InBoxStainedGlass.shtml, or you can go to SusanLenz.com to view more examples of her work. If
you would like to sign up for this workshop, please do so directly on the SAQA website, www.saqa.com, and go to the "SAQA
Online Store" under the "Resources" tab to sign up. If you have any questions, please contact Sherry Mozley at 251-228-2388 or
[email protected], or Susan Mogan, [email protected] or 458-0246. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a
fun, interesting, and different experience.
