    1ISoLATIoN FRom LINE mEDIAachieved in two undamental design concepts:A. INTERNAL DISc/STEm coNNEcTIoN Bra oers three disc-to-stem connections: Double D, Splined, and Double

    Ke. These internal, non-wetted connections eliminate exposed external disc-to-stem connections such as screws or taper pins.

    Disassembl o Bras internal connection is

    2INTERNATIoNAL comPATIBILITyValve mounting top fanges meet ISO 5211

    power actuators. All Bra valves have extended necks

    which allow or at least 2 piping insulation.

    3AcTUAToR moUNTINg

    Due to a modular concept o design, all Bra

    actuators including Handles, Gear Operators, Pneumatic

    and Electric Actuators mount directl to Bra resilient

    seated valves. No brackets are required. This allows

    or simple installation in the eld, minimizes possible

    misalignment and reduces overall height.

    SEAT mATERIALS

    EPDm (Peroxide Cured)

    EPDM is the abbreviated name or Ethlene Proplene DieneMonomer. In general industr, one ma see other abbreviations or

    trade names used in lieu o EPDM such as EPT, Nordel, ECD, or

    EPR. Tpicall these are the same materials as EPDM.

    EPDM is a standard seat material oered in Bra resilient-seated

    butterf valves. It is the most universal and economical o seat

    materials oered b Bra; that is, it ma be used in a wider range

    o applications than BUNA-N. O important signicance also is

    the act all EPDM seat materials sold b Bra are Food Grade.

    Bras EPDM Food Grade seats are perectl suitable or sanitar

    applications as well as standard industrial uses. EPDM is also

    available as a covering or Series 20 discs.

    BUNA-N (Black & White)BUNA-N is the commonl used name or Nitrile snthetic rubber.

    Nitrile is a copolmer o acrlonitrile and butadiene. BUNA-N is

    sometimes reerred to as NBR, Nitrile, or Hcar. BUNA-N is an

    excellent general purpose seat material which is particularl suitable

    or hdrocarbon service. BUNA-N is a standard Bra seat material

    and is Food Grade; thus suitable or sanitar applications. Note,

    BUNA-N is also available as a covering or Series 20 disc stems.

    FKmFKM is the ASTM D1418 designation or Fluorinated Hdrocarbon

    Elastomers (Fluoroelastomers) such as Viton (DuPont). FKM has

    some outstanding characteristics such as improved acid, oil, and

    temperature resistance over standard seat materials.

    PoLyURETHANEUrethane seats are primaril used or their abilit to resist abrasive

    wear. Urethane can be used on a reasonabl broad range o services.

    Urethane will withstand severe impact, recover its original shape

    ater distortion and resist abrasion better than other elastomers such

    as EPDM and BUNA-N.

    SEAT mATERIALS

    PTFE LINED EPDm(Standard or High-temp)

    PTFE lined EPDM seat consists o a PTFE liner which orms theaces and the fow wa o the seat, and is molded on to an EPDM

    elastomer backing. Onl the inert non-stick PTFE liner surace is

    exposed to the line media. The EPDM backing acts as a resilient

    support to the relativel rigid PTFE. These seats are generall used

    where BUNA-N and EPDM seats are not chemicall suitable

    especiall in corrosive services.

    VIRgIN PTFEAll Bra PTFE seats and encapsulated discs are molded rom pure

    virgin PTFE material to the ollowing specications: thickness 3

    mm, specifc gravity 2.16, crystallinity 68%. PTFEs inherenmolecular bonding strength gives an excellent chemical, high

    temperature and tear resistance. Sintered processed PTFE oers

    lower permeabilit than melt processed materials such as PFA. These

    properties combined with Bras stringent material specications

    provide optimum protection against permeation o the line media.

    coNDUcTIVE PTFEBra Conductive PTFE seats and discs are available or

    installation in areas o the plant where explosion protection

    is important. This material was designed to prevent harmul

    electrostatic discharge. For the ultimate in saet and reliabilitBra has combined electrostatic discharge protection and the

    excellent chemical resistance properties o PTFE. The conductive

    PTFE seat and the disc has a minimum thickness o 1/8 (3 mm)

    providing optimum protection against permeation o the line media.

    UHmWPEUHMWPE seats and discs eature exceptional chemical resistance

    and are the ideal choice or highl abrasive chemical applications

    The natural abilit o the UHMWPEs high molecular weight to

    repel solids prevents in-line particles rom damaging the valves sea

    suraces. An economical and high perormance choice or abrasivechemical services.

    The Series 20/21 valve not onl surpasses the

    high standards required in sanitar valve

    applications, and inherent fow characteristics

    and capabilities. Bras Series 20 valve is a waer

    version with fange locating holes, and the Series

    21 is the companion lug version or dead-end

    service and other fange requirements.

    Sanitar & Chemical applications

    One-piece disc/stem

    STEm BUSHINg: Non-corrosive, heav dut acetalbushing absorbs actuator side thrust.

    STEm SEAL: Double U cup seal design is sel-adjusting and givespositive sealing in both directions and prevents external substances

    rom entering the stem bore.

    DISc / STEm: One-piece design. The disc edge is sphericallmachined and hand polished to produce a bubble-tight shut o, minimum

    torque, and longer seat lie. The disc/stem design inherentl provides

    complete protection rom particle entrapment and bacterial deca,

    protection that is required or sanitar perormance. For

    superior erosion and abrasion resistance, the one-piece

    disc/stem is ull encased in either EPDM or BUNA-N.The thin disc prole provides a much higher Cv (up

    to 50% greater than most through-stem designs) and

    greater pressure recover, thus resulting in lower

    pressure drops and a more energ-ecient valve.

    PRImARy & SEcoNDARy SEALS: Theseseals prevent line media rom coming in contact

    with the stem or bod.PrimarySeal is achieved

    b an intererence t o the molded seat fat

    with the disc hub. Secondary Seal is created

    because the stem diameter is greater than the

    diameter o the seat stem hole.

    SEAT: Bras tongue and groove seat design

    lowers torque and provides complete isolationo fowing media rom the bod. The seat also

    eatures a molded O-ring which eliminates the

    use o fange gaskets.

    BoDy: Two-piece waer or lug stle allowsor ease o assembl and maintenance. Nlon 11

    ToP STEm BUSHINg: A top stem bushing, retained b astainless steel ring, is provided to absorb actuator side thrusts and

    is acetal as standard or PTFE as an option.

    UPPER STEm SEAL: The upper stem seal serves to keep anenvironmental contaminants rom entering the stem bore.

    BoDy:Bodies are two piece waer or lug stle and are epox coated.All bodies meet ull ASME Class 150 and DIN 3840 pressure ratings

    or hdrostatic requirements.

    BEARINgS: PTFE impregnated steel bearings provided or

    precision alignment o the upper and lower stem.PRImARy SEAL:The primar seal is achieved b an intererencet between the extra wide disc hubs and contoured seat.

    SEAT DESIgN:The seat design reduces seating/unseating torqueand, at the same time, reduces wear on the contacting parts. Curvatures

    machined into the inner seat area minimize contact orces between

    the disc and seat as the disc approaches, or opens rom, the closed

    position. This unique seat geometr permits lower torques and

    reduces seat wear.

    SEAT ENERgIzER:A resilient seat energizer extends completelaround the seat, including the disc hub. This provides uniorm orce

    sucient or bubble-tight shut o.

    SEAL cAPSULE: (Secondar Seal) This sealcapsule ull isolates the valve bod and stem rom

    the line media. The Seal Capsule is made o a virgin

    PTFE enclosing the internal energizer. The capsule

    ts into grooves machined in the upper and lower

    disc hubs. When compressed between the disc and

    seat during assembl, the capsule becomes energized,exerting both upward and downward pressure on

    disc and seat suraces.

    BoDy SEALS: (Bidirectional): ReinorcedPTFE gaskets are placed between the bod halves.

    These seals eliminate contamination rom external

    environmental conditions and potential leak path

    rom the line media.

    AccESSoRIES taPPed Port can be provided in the bod neck

    below the stem seal to connect leak detectors

    or instrumentation.

    grounding caBle is oered to protect againststatic charge build-up. The cable mounts to the

    The seat also eatures a molded

    O-ring which eliminates the

    use o fange gaskets.

    STEm RETAININg ASSEmBLy: The stem isretained in the bod b means o a unique Stainless Steel

    Spirolox retaining ring, a thrust washer and two C-rings,

    manuactured rom brass as standard, stainless steel upon

    request. The retaining ring ma be easil removed with a

    standard hand tool. The stem retaining assembl

    prevents unintentional removal o the stem

    during eld service.

    SERIES 3A2-20 (50mm-500mm)

    Bras Series 3A/3AH valve is a Double Flanged design which can

    be used or dead-end service. A major design advantage o Bra

    valve product lines is international compatibilit. The same valve is

    compatible with most world fange standards ASME Class 125/150,

    BS 10 Tables D and E, BS 4504 NP 10/16, DIN ND 10/16, AS 2129

    and JIS10. In addition, the valves are designed to compl with

    ISO 5752 - Table 2 (EN 558 Table 13) ace-to-ace and ISO

    5211 actuator mounting fanges. Thereore, one valve
