Fazzalare, Winn, Nichols and Kimpan touched first (1:49.85) while Anderson, Watson, Schmelzer and Spencer Ruman came in sec- ond (1:57.50). D. Abbott swam in second (1:46.75) and Nigro came in fourth (2:03.48) in the 200 yard freestyle. Winn won the 200 yard IM with a time of (2:13.71), J. French came in fourth (2:28.61) and Iafrate in fifth (2:30.98). The top three spots in the 50 freestyle went to Romeo: R. Abbott in first (24.04), Kim- pan in second (24.10) and Nichols in third (24.83). The Bulldogs won the diving: Szydlowski in first (174.95), Figurski in second (171.65) and Paul Hayes in third (113.50). In the 100 yard butterfly Schmelzer swam in third (1:05.95), C. French in fourth (1:07.28) and Anderson in fifth (1:08.52). Fazzalare came in second (52.04) in the 100 yard freestyle, Kimpan touched third (53.35) and R. Abbott placed fourth (53.69). The 500 freestyle swimmers were D. Abbott in second (5:05.69), Nigro in third (5:38.60) and Cusick in fifth (6:04.26). Romeo won the 200 yard freestyle relay; the team of Kimpan, R. Abbott, Nichols, and D. Abbott touched in first (1:36.06) fol- lowed by the team of Iafrate, C. French, Schmelzer and Nigro who scored in third place. Freshman swimmer Anderson won the 100 yard backstroke (1:08.19) and J. French came in second (1:09.63). The Bulldogs were strong in the 100 yard breaststroke. Winn placed first (1:06.28), Watson in third (1:10.72) and Ridge Downs in fourth (1:19.02). Both of Romeo’s relay teams scored in the 400 yard freestyle relay. D. Abbott, R. Abbott, Nigro and Winn touched in first (3:33.97) and C. French, Iafrate, Schmelz- er and Anderson came in third (4:05.18). Final scores: Romeo 117 and Henry Ford 66. Many swimmers achieved qualifying times to be able to compete at the County Meet coming up Feb. 4 and 5. The next meet will be a Tri-Meet at Lake Orion on Jan. 29. Swim . . . (Photo courtesy of Elaine Atkinson) The Romeo High School boys’ varsity bowling team dug a deep hole, losing both Baker games and were down 10-0 heading into match play against Stevenson on Mon- day, Jan. 17. The only way to win the match was to win both games and 6 of the 10 match points — a tall order for any team. Tyler Stokes was familiar with Sunnybrook and used his local knowledge and great play to lead the Bulldogs to a last game 10th frame victory with a 235–211/446 series winning one match point. Tyler Culver’s 192–235/427 series won both of his match points as did Matthew Faz- zalare with a 211–189/400 series. Dylan Stokes earned a match point with a 213–204/417 series. Alec Shipman shot 210–179/383 series and was not able to win a match point, however, he made the biggest shot of the night needing the first strike in the 10th frame in order for Romeo to win the match. The Bulldogs won the match 16- 14. The varsity girls’ were outscored by Stevenson in the Baker games, losing the first by 10 pins and the second by 58 pins. The Titans prevailed by a 26-4 score. Kaylla Koster led the varsity girls in a loss to the 2nd place Titans with an impressive 194–236/429 series and won both of her match points. Alicia Harbin won a match point with a 185 game and Kelsey Ruebel- mann won a point with a 166 game. The team made a great effort throughout the match keeping close to the Titans until the very end. Shannon Kelley, Kaitlin Lowran and Stephanie Seefried were outscored by their match play opponents but made some great shots throughout the match. The junior varsity boys started off well winning both Baker games for a 10-0 lead heading into match play, shocking the 1st place and undefeated Titans. Stevenson came alive in match play put- ting up big scores and domi- nating the Bulldogs and win- ning the match 19-11. Patrick Brunkey won the lone match point for the Bulldogs with a 202 game. Michael Steffens’ 215 and Andrew Nelson’s 199 along with Joseph Seefried’s 202 were solid games, but not enough to win a match point. The Bulldogs visited Impe- rial Lanes on Saturday, Jan. 15, bowling in the L’Anse Creuse North Bakers Dozen Tournament. The varsity girls qualified 15th in the all- Baker 13-game format adjusting to the heavier oil pattern. In the finals, the Bulldogs faced number 2 seed Chippewa Valley and fell 2-0 in the best of three series. The Bulldogs were short handed as one of their teammates was out with the flu, however, they worked very hard all day and were rewarded by mak- ing the finals. The junior varsity boys had a great day qualifying solidly in 6th position. The Bulldogs faced Ford II and advanced, winning by a score of 2 games to 1. In the round of 8, Romeo lost a thriller 2 games to 1 to Lakeview. The varsity boys qualified in the 18th spot, missing the top 16 cut line by 79 pins. The team was not shooting spares well throughout the day on the heavier oil pattern. The varsity boys came alive Jan. 14 against the first place and undefeated Ford II Falcons in a MAC Red Con- ference match at Shelby Lanes, winning by a score of 20-10. Romeo swept both Baker games, winning the first by 11 pins and the sec- ond game by only 8 pins as Shipman threw three clutch strikes in the 10th frame of the second game to win the game and totals. The Bulldogs lost the first match game 1,043-1,002 but regrouped and adjusted to the changing lane conditions, winning the second game, 977-946. D. Stokes led all players on the pair with a 264–193/457 series and won both of his match points. Faz- zalare showed his intelligence and made some excellent adjustments allowing him to win both of his match points with a 190–211/401 series. Also contributing a match point each was T. Stokes with 202 and Shipman with 210. Culver bowled well and con- tributed to the team win with some big shots, but was not able to outscore his opponent for a match point. The varsity girls battled every shot against Ford II but could not win enough points in the match game portion of the night to come away with a win losing 21-9. Romeo start- ed the Bakers by losing by only 1 pin in the opening game. The Bulldogs erupted in the second game with a 184 and won totals for a 6-4 point lead after the Bakers. In the match play, Kelley led the Bulldogs with a 247-179 426 series and won a match point. Harbin made some good adjustments and won a match point with a 181 game. Koster also won a match point with a 160 game. Rue- belmann, Lowran and S. Seefried worked hard throughout the match but did not win any match points. The junior varsity boys got off to a great start, winning both Baker games against Ford II and kept their foot on the gas for a big win 20-10. The first match game came down to the 10th frame and Ford II was able to withstand a comeback attempt by the Bulldogs winning by 6 pins. Like the varsity team, the JV team made good adjustments to the changing lane condi- tions and won a thriller in the 10th frame by 25 pins and totals. J. Seefried led the team with a 187–195/382 series and won one match point. Steffens, Kirk Lightcap and Nelson also won match points. Brunkey could not overcome a number of splits and did not win a match point. High school bowlers reach deep to come up with wins The Powell Middle School boys’ seventh grade basketball team beat Iroquois, 38-20, on Tuesday, Jan. 18 to bring their record to 4-5. Phillip Harrell scored nine points and Andrew Medaugh scored eight. John Houbeck added seven points and Jared Ozella and Ryan Truax each added four points. Paul Hur- ley, Mitchell Heimbuch and Noah Soave each added two points. The eighth grade team saw their second loss, 41-37, against Iroquois. Their record is now 7-2. Brad Sorenson scored a game-high 23 points. Jake Kulczycki added four points. Sam Ebbitt, Anthony Proia, Mike Phillion, Ben French and Trevor Atkinson each added two points. The eighth grade team lost (42-38) on Thursday, Jan. 13, to L’Anse Creuse East. Sorenson scored 12 points and Isahi Lara scored six points. Ebbitt and James Males each added four points. Josh Mulrenin, French and Dylan Liptov each added three points. Proia scored two points and Andrew Behring added one point. The seventh grade team is posting a 3-5 record after a 48- 42 loss to L’Anse Creuse. Hurley scored 18 points fol- lowed by Heimbuch with 10 points. Medaugh scored three points. Houbeck, Efrain Flores, Ozella, Tony Gojcevic and Truax each added two points and Brad Chambers added one point. The eighth grade team beat L’Anse Creuse North on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Sorenson scored 20 points and Lara 10 points. Behring, Anthony Dragich and Matthew Kres- mery each added three points and French and Males added two points each. The seventh grade team lost, 29-20, to North. Hurley scored 10 points and Heim- buch five points. Medaugh added three points and Cham- bers and Houbeck each added one. The eighth grade team beat Anchor Bay South 35-17 on Monday, Jan. 10. Sorenson scored 10 points, Phillion and Liptov each added five points and Males scored four points. Atkinson scored three points. Lara, Ebbitt, Proia and Kres- mery each had two points. Both teams beat Romeo Middle School during the Friendship Games held Thursday, Jan. 6. The eighth grade team won 45-30. Sorenson scored a game- high 21 points and Males scored 10 points. Lara scored four points. Mulrenin, A Behring, Ebbitt, Kulczycki and Proia each added two points. The seventh grade team won 21-20. Heimbuch scored eight points followed by Hur- ley and Flores with four points each. Houbeck scored three points and Ozella scored two points. The eighth grade team beat Anchor Bay South, 37-11, on Tuesday, Jan. 4. The whole team con- tributed to the win, having 12 of the 15 players score. Soren- son scored seven points fol- lowed by Lara with six and Mulrenin with five. Kulczycki scored four points and Phillion had three points. Atkinson, Dragich, French, Males and Alex Nicley each added two points. Behring and Liptov fin- ished the scoring with a point each. The seventh grade team lost 22-25. High school bowlers reach deep to come up with wins

The Powell Middle Schoolboys’ seventh grade basketballteam beat Iroquois, 38-20, onTuesday, Jan. 18 to bring theirrecord to 4-5.

Phillip Harrell scored ninepoints and Andrew Medaughscored eight. John Houbeckadded seven points and JaredOzella and Ryan Truax eachadded four points. Paul Hur-ley, Mitchell Heimbuch andNoah Soave each added twopoints.

The eighth grade team sawtheir second loss, 41-37,against Iroquois. Their recordis now 7-2.
