Hi Everyone! This project had to be some of the most fun I have had sewing lately. It’s summer, and nothing says summer like juicy berries and adorable hat projects! Also…. Raspberry Beret…. Get it ;) This combination was too irresistible. I’ve included an adult and child version in the printable PDF pattern. And let me tell you, this beret is easy to sew. It takes just a few minutes to put together and looks every bit the stylish accessory! Supples:

● ½ Yard of Cotton (Fun prints are the best!) ● ½ Yard of Lining Cotton ● Strip of Fusible Interfacing ● Thread

Print out your PDF Pattern. Make sure when printing that your printer is set to “Print Actual Size” Or that the page is at 100% scale. This is to ensure that you are printing the pattern at the right size! Take your three pattern pieces and cut out the following: Beret Top: Cut 1 Main Fabric, Cut 1 Lining Beret Underside: Cut 1 Main Fabric, Cut 1 Lining Beret Band: Cut 1 Main Fabric

Also, cut a strip of interfacing the same length as your hat band and half the width!

For your hat band, stabilize half with a fusible interfacing.

Serge together your Beret Top main fabric and the lining at the edges, making sure that the wrong sides are facing each other. I serged my pieces together using my PROFESSIONAL™ 5 14T968DC SERGER. Repeat this step with the Beret Underside pieces!

You can then fold the band in half length size and sew the short edges together to create a ring. Try it on at this step to make sure it’s a comfortable fit for your head. Then fold your band in half widthwise (interfacing to the inside) and serge your edges together to create a lovely finish.

Take your Beret Band and the Beret Underside piece and pin them together right sides facing one another. If there is any excess fabric, ease it in as best as you can. The dotted line in the illustration below indicates where you should stitch. You can sew this part together using the 5 Thread Safety Stitch setting on the PROFESSIONAL™ 5 14T968DC SERGER. This stitch has the straight chain stitch and the overlock stitch combined into one step and is perfect for non stretch fabrics.

The last step is to place your Beret Top to your Underside/Band piece and sew all around the outside edge.Turn to right side and enjoy your beret!! And that’s it! Super simple and fun to sew, and makes for the perfect summer accessory!
