Bruce L. KampLain, PartnerBruce Kamplain is certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in civil trial and civil pretrial advocacy, an achievement for which only three percent of attorneys in the United States are recognized. He was named as an Indiana Super Lawyer honoree in 2005 and 2009 to 2019for his work in insurance coverage litigation, and he is rated AV® Pre- eminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell®. He was also selected as a 2013 Top Rated Lawyer in “Mass Torts Law.”

A partner with the firm for 29 years, Bruce is a registered civil mediator. He has more than 41 years’ experience litigating disputes to trial and using a variety of techniques including alternative dispute resolution, mediation and dispositive motions. He has tried jury and bench trials before many Indiana state courts and in federal courts for the Southern and Northern districts of Indiana. He has argued more than 30 appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He has also suc- cessfully argued before the Indiana Supreme Court.

Bruce is a member of the firm’s insurance, civil rights, environmental and toxic tort practice groups. He has litigated insurance coverage matters involving CGL, D&O, E&O, Excess and Umbrella policies involv- ing a wide range of issues. In addition, he has handled USEPA claims under CERCLA and IDEM claims under the State Cleanup Programand the Voluntary Remediation Program. Under the Federal and State Programs, he has been involved in the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Program, the Indiana Brownfield Program, the Resource Conserva- tion and Recovery Act Corrective Action Program and the Emergency Response Program. He has more than 30 years’ experience in toxic tort matters involving asbestos found in products, the carcinogenicity of benzene, toluene and xylene and occupational bronchiolitis obliterans from diacetyl exposure. Bruce has also handled a wide variety of civil rights cases in state and federal courts.

He is a graduate of Hanover College and the Indiana University RobertH. McKinney School of Law. From 1978 to 1987 he served as a deputy Indiana attorney general working in federal and state court litigation sections. In 1987, Attorney General Linley E. Pearson named him as an honorary attorney general and advocate of the State of Indiana.

Bruce is an Eagle Scout, an avid, award-winning nature and wildlife photographer and is a volunteer at Traders Point Christian ChurchNorth Campus. He is married and has two daughters and two grand- children.
