We had a great turn out during Stop and Drop Mon- day Night and again this morning during our Boo-Hoo, Yahoo breakfast. All of our students were actively engaged in “getting to know you” activities throughout the day and it is so nice to see our building full of smiling, happy students! The Buzz is Buckalew’s main form of communication about events going on throughout the year. It is sent out 2 times a month. Please read through it and save the dates. To Our Buckalew Parents:

What an AMAZING first day of school! Thank you parents for being so in-

volved and supportive. We had a great turn out during Stop and Drop Mon-

day Night and again this morning during our Boo-Hoo, Yahoo breakfast. All

of our students were actively engaged in “getting to know you” activities

throughout the day and it is so nice to see our building full of smiling, happy

students!

The Buzz is Buckalew’s main form of communication about events going on

Keys to Success

Each week students have the opportunity to be nominated as a “Student of the Week” when

they demonstrate any of the 7 Keys to Success we teach at Buckalew. Students nominated

receive a special certificate to take home. They are then entered into a weekly drawing. The

winners are on the announcements and are presented a “Principal’s Medallion”. One student per

grade level is drawn weekly. Congratulations to the following students:

Counseling is for everyone at Buckalew! Students, parents, and staff members are all in-cluded. As we teach children,

we all need help at times. Please feel free to ask for any

volunteer grant program for Buckalew, please remember to complete the following:

• Complete the online application on the employee domain for ExxonMobil Foundation. • Applications can be submitted anytime. Payouts to the school are made on a quarterly basis. • Don’t forget to start recording your 2016 volunteer hours. You are able to submit your volun-

teer time after 20 hours.

We greatly appreciate your contributions. Our Exxon grants have helped us fund so

many things here at Buckalew over the years.

4th Grade 2017-2018 Yearbook Cover Contest: Be on the look-out for the

flyer announcing this year’s Yearbook Cover Art Contest. The flyer will be

distributed to all 4th grade students very soon. It will contain the yearbook’s

theme and details of the contest.

Finished artwork is due no later than Friday, September 15.

Join the PTO Hospitality Committee!

This committee coordinates monthly lunches for our great teachers and staff, birthday

surprises, and other appreciation events throughout the year.

We rely on parents to sign up to bring dishes, supplies, and also to help with set up,

serve the teachers, and clean up after the lunch. This is a great way to get to know our

teachers!

Sound fun? Send an email to Laura Simcik at [email protected], and you will

receive our monthly email sign-up (luncheons are generally held on a Friday mid-

month). Once you’re on the list, participation is ALWAYS voluntary. We are looking

forward to a great year!

A new school year has started and that means it is time to link or re-link your Kroger

Even if you have signed up before, you have to renew each August. Just register online

KONA IS COMING…

Join us for our FIRST Spirit Event on Friday, August 25th after school in the Lakeside Park

parking lot. Two trucks will Spirit Nights:

Spirit Night at Maximum Athletics

Saturday, September 9th 7:00-10:00pm

AFTER A LONG WEEK OF SCHOOL - Buckalew's Spirit Night is the perfect time for your

child to expend some energy. At "Spirit Night" your child can participate in games, contests,

and open gym time. "Spirit Night" last 3 hours, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. The cost is $15.00

per student. This event is for ages 5 and up. Sign up using this link: https://

Spirit Wear

Buckalew Bears students, staff, and families have a lot of spirit! Here is your opportunity to get

school spirit every Friday by purchasing and wearing your Buckalew tees. Adults, too!

Tee samples are available in the front office and you are encouraged to stop by and try one on.

All proceeds go to the PTO to support school field trips, materials for the students, teacher re-

sources, playground equipment, & much more!

Thank you to the families who took time out of their summer schedules to water our school's gar-

dens and trees. These families helped keep things green and looked so cute working together. The

grounds look great! Our school is now registered with Monarch Joint Venture and certified with The

National Wildlife Federation.

Eagle Scout Badge. We look forward to working and planning with you and your troop to make our

campus a nicer place for our students and teachers!
