Why do plants need nitrogen?Plants need nitrogen to make protein units- amino acids, nitrogen combines with hydrogen, oxygen and carbon from glucose

glucose also provides energy

Plant roots have a very large surface area to help them absorb water and minerals. Tiny root hair cells take in minerals, such as nitrates, by active transport

Remember, the cycling of nitrogen through soil (nitrates) into plants (proteins) and animals (when they eat the plant protein). At each stage, decomposers break down proteins to recycle the nitrogen.
