PRECAUTIONSRead the Operating Instructions carefully and completely beforeoperating the unit. Be sure to keep the Operating Instructions forfuture reference. All warnings and cautions in the Operating Instruc-tions and on the unit should be strictly followed, as well as the safetysuggestions below.

Installation1 Water and moisture Do not use this unit near water, such as

near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wetbasement, swimming pool, or the like.

2 Heat Do not use this unit near sources of heat, including heatingvents, stoves, or other appliances that generate heat. It alsoshould not be placed in temperatures less than 5C (41F) orgreater than 35C (95F).

3 Mounting surface Place the unit on a flat, even surface.4 Ventilation The unit should be situated with adequate space

around it so that proper heat ventilation is assured. Allow 10 cm(4 in.) clearance from the rear and the top of the unit, and 5 cm (2in.) from the each side.- Do not place the unit on a bed, rug, or similar surface that may

block the ventilation openings.- Do not install the unit in a bookcase, cabinet, or airtight rack

where ventilation may be impeded.5 Objects and liquid entry Take care that objects or liquids do

not get inside the unit through the ventilation openings.6 Carts and stands When placed or

mounted on a stand or cart, the unit shouldbe moved with care.Quick stops, excessive force, and unevensurfaces may cause the unit or cart tooverturn or fall.

7 Condensation Moisture may form on the CD pickup lens when:- The unit is moved from a cold spot to a warm spot- The heating system has just been turned on- The unit is used in a very humid room- The unit is cooled by an air conditionerWhen this unit has condensation inside, it may not functionnormally. Should this occur, leave the unit for a few hours, thentry to operate again.

8 Wall or ceiling mounting The unit should not be mounted ona wall or ceiling, unless specified in the Operating Instructions.

Electric Power1 Power sources Use on batteries or AC house current, as

specified in the Operating Instructions and marked on the unit.2 Polarization As a safety feature, some units are equipped with

polarized AC power plugs which can only be inserted one way intoa power outlet. If it is difficult or impossible to insert the AC powerplug into an outlet, turn the plug over and try again. If it still doesnot easily insert into the outlet, please call a qualified servicetechnician to service or replace the outlet. To avoid defeating thesafety feature of the polarized plug, do not force it into a poweroutlet.

3 AC power cord- When disconnecting the AC power cord, pull it out by the AC

power plug. Do not pull the cord itself.- Never handle the AC power plug with wet hands, as this could

result in fire or shock.- Power cords should be firmly secured to avoid being bent,

pinched, or walked upon. Pay particular attention to the cordfrom the unit to the power socket.

- Avoid overloading AC outlets and extension cords beyond theircapacity, as this could result in fire or shock.

4 Extension cord To help prevent electric shock, do not use apolarized AC power plug with an extension cord, receptacle, orother outlet unless the polarized plug can be completely insertedto prevent exposure of the blades of the plug.

5 When not in use Unplug the AC power cord from the AC outletor remove all the batteries if the unit will not be used for severalmonths or more. When the cord is plugged in, a small amount ofcurrent continues to flow to the unit, even when the power isturned off.

MaintenanceClean the unit only as recommended in the Operating Instructions.

Damage Requiring ServiceHave the unit serviced by a qualified service technician if:- The AC power cord or plug has been damaged- Foreign objects or liquid have gotten inside the unit- The unit has been exposed to rain or water- The unit does not seem to operate normally- The unit exhibits a marked change in performance- The unit has been dropped, or the cabinet has been damagedDO NOT ATTEMPT TO SERVICE THE UNIT YOURSELF.

POWER SUPPLY

USING ON AC HOUSE CURRENTConnect the AC cord as illustrated below.

The OPE/BATT indicator lights up while the power is on.

CAUTIONUse only the supplied AC cord. Use with other cords mayresult in the risk of fire.

USING ON BATTERIESOpen the lid of the battery compartment on the rear andinsert eight R14 (size C) batteries, not supplied, as illustratedbelow. Then close the lid.To switch from AC power supply to battery powersupply, disconnect the AC cord from the AC inlet. When using the unit on the batteries, the display will not be

illuminated.

The batteries need to be replaced when:The OPE/BATT indicator becomes dim, the tape speedslows down, volume decreases, or sound is distorted duringoperation.

Notes on batteriesTo avoid damage from leakage or explosion, observe thefollowing: Insert the batteries with the 0 and 9 marks correctly

aligned. Do not mix different types of batteries or old batteries with

new ones. Never recharge the batteries, apply heat to them or take

them apart. Remove dead batteries.If liquid leaks from the batteries, wipe thoroughly to remove.

NOTEIf power is interrupted for more than 12 hours, all settingsstored in memory, such as the clock, the timer, and thepresetting of the broadcasting stations, are cleared and needto be set again.

PREPARATIONS

REMOTE CONTROL

INSERTING BATTERIESDetach the battery cover on the rear of the remote controland insert two R03 (size AAA) batteries.

When to replace the batteriesThe maximum operational distance between the remotecontrol and the remote sensor on the main unit should beapproximately 5 meters (16 feet). When this distancedecreases, replace the batteries with new ones.

USING THE REMOTE CONTROLSome operations can be performed using the buttons on theremote control only, or those on the main unit only, whileothers can be performed using the buttons on the main unitas well as the remote control. This instructions manualclearly describes the buttons available for each operation.

To use the buttonsPoint the remote control at the REMOTE SENSOR on themain unit to use the buttons on the remote control.

NOTE If the unit is not going to be used for an extended period of

time, remove the batteries to prevent possible electrolyteleakage.

The remote control may not operate correctly when: The line of sight between the remote control and the unit

is exposed to intense light, such as direct sunlight Other remote controls are used nearby (television, etc.)

The c button on the remote control has the same functionas that of the d button on the main unit.

BEFORE OPERATION

To turn the unit onPress one of the function buttons (TAPE/REV MODE,TUNER/BAND, CD).Playback of the inserted disc or tape begins, or thepreviously tuned station is received (Direct Play Function).The POWER button is also available.Pressing the z CD OPEN button turns the unit on as well.

After usePress the POWER button to turn off the power. The displaychanges to the clock.

NOTEWhen using on the batteries, you cannot turn the power onwith the remote control.

To use the headphonesConnect headphones with a stereo mini plug (3.5 mm, 1/8inch) to the PHONES jack.No sound is output from the speakers while the headphonesare plugged in.

SETTING THE CLOCK

When the power code is plugged into an AC outlet forthe first time after purchase, the clock display flashes.

1 Press the CLOCK button.5 flashes.

2 Turn the VOLUME/TIMER control to adjust theclock.For quick adjustment, turn the control quickly.You can also press the f or g button. Holdingthese buttons down will vary the time in 20-minute units.

3 Press the ENTER or a button to complete thesetting.5 on the display disappears and the clock starts from00 seconds.

To display the current timePress the CLOCK button.To return to the operation display, press the CLOCK buttonor one of the function buttons.

To switch to the 12/24-hour standardWhile the clock is displayed, press the s button.In the 12-hour standard, AM 12:00 indicates midnightand PM 12:00 indicates noon.

If the clock display flashes while the power is offThis is caused by a power interruption. The current timeneeds to be reset.If power is interrupted for more than approximately 12 hours,all settings stored in memory after purchase need to bereset.

ADJUSTING THE SOUND

VOLUME CONTROLTurn the VOLUME/TIMER control on the main unit orpress the VOLUME buttons on the remote control.The volume level is displayed as a number from 0 toMAX (31). The volume level is automatically set to 21 ifthe power is turned off when the volume level is set to22 or more.

To display the current volume levelPress the DISPLAY button on the remote control.The volume level is displayed for 4 seconds.

SUPER T-BASS SYSTEMThe T-BASS system enhances the realism of low-frequencysound.Press the T-BASS button.

To cancel, press the button again.

NOTELow frequency sound may be distorted when the T-BASSsystem is used for a disc or tape in which low frequencysound is originally emphasized. In this case, cancel the T-BASS system.

Q SURROUND SYSTEMThe Q SURROUND system built into this unit uses only twospeakers at the left and right to create an atmosphere thatsound as if you are surrounded by two front speakers andtwo rear speakers.Press the QSURROUND button.

To cancel, press the button again.

NOTE The Q SURROUND system does not work in monaural

mode. At higher volumes, turning Q SURROUND on may cause

sound distortion. In this case, turn the volume down.

TAPE OPERATIONS

INSERTING A TAPEUse Type I (normal) tapes only.

Press the TAPE/REV MODE button (or the TAPEbutton on the remote control) and press the OPENmark to open the cassette holder.

Insert a tape with the exposed side facing forward. Push thecassette holder to close.

To select a reverse modeEach time the TAPE/REV MODE (TAPE) button is pressed,the reverse mode changes.

To play one side only, select P.To play from front side to back side once only, select .To play both sides repeatedly, select ].

PLAYING BACK A TAPEInsert a tape.

Press the d button (or the c button on theremote control) to start play.

x: The side facing upward is being played (forward).c: The opposite side is being played (reverse).

To stop play, press the s button.To pause play, press the a button. To resume play, pressagain.To change the playback side, press the d button in playmode.To fast forward or rewind, press the f or g button instop mode. Then press the s button to stop the tape.

To start play when the power is off (Direct Play Function)Press the TAPE/REV MODE (TAPE) button. The power isturned on and play of the inserted tape begins.

To set the tape counter to 0000Press the s button in stop mode.The counter is also set to 0000 when the cassette holder isopened.

About cassette tapes To prevent accidental erasure, break off the plastic

tabs on the cassette tape with a screwdriver or otherpointed tool after recording.

To record on the tape again, cover the tab openingswith adhesive tape, etc.

120-minute or longer tapes are extremely thin andeasily deformed or damaged. They are notrecommended.

Take up any slack in the tape with a pencil or similartool before use. Slack tape may break or jam in themechanism.

MANUAL TUNING

1 Press the TUNER/BAND button repeatedly toselect the desired band.

FM AM

If the power is turned off, the previously tuned station willbe played (Direct Play Function).

2 Press the f or g button to select a station.Each time the button is pressed, the frequency changes.During FM stereo reception, "STEREO" is displayed.

To search for a station quickly (Auto Search)Keep the f or g button pressed until the radio startssearching for a station. After tuning in to a station, thesearch stops.To stop the Auto Search manually, press the f or gbutton. The Auto Search may not stop at stations with very weak

signals.

For better receptionFMExtend the FM antenna and orient it for the best reception.AMThe AM antenna is inside the unit. Position the unit for thebest reception.

When an FM stereo broadcast contains noisePress the MODE button on the remote control.MONO appears on the display.Noise is reduced, although reception is monaural.

To restore stereo reception, repeat the above again.

To change the AM tuning intervalThe default setting of the AM tuning interval is 10 kHz/step.If you use this unit in an area where the frequency allocationsystem is 9 kHz/step, change the tuning interval.Press the POWER button while pressing the TUNER/BANDbutton on the unit.To reset the interval, repeat this procedure.

NOTEWhen the AM tuning interval is changed, all preset stations(see "PRESETTING STATIONS") are cleared. The presetstations have to be set again.

PRESETTING STATIONS

You can preset up to 15 stations in each band. When astation is stored, a preset number is assigned to the station.Use the preset number to tune in to a preset station directly.

1 Press the TUNER/BAND button to select a band.Then, press the f or g button to select astation.

2 Press the a button to store the station.A station is assigned a preset number, beginning from 1in consecutive order for each band.

3 Repeat steps 1 and 2.Preset number

PRESET NUMBER TUNINGUse the remote control to select the preset number directly.

1 Press the TUNER/BAND button to select a band.2 Press the numbered buttons to select a preset

number.Example:To select preset number 15, press the +10 and 5buttons.To select preset number 10, press the +10 and 0buttons.

Another method to select a preset numberPress the TUNER/BAND button to select a band. Then,press the d button (or the c button) repeatedly.Each time the button is pressed, the next ascending numberis selected.

To clear a preset stationSelect the preset station to be cleared. Then, press the sbutton, and press the a button within 4 seconds.The preset numbers of all other stations in the band withhigher numbers are also decreased by one.

CD OPERATIONS

LOADING A DISCPress the CD button, press the CD OPEN button to openthe disc compartment, and load a disc with a label sideup. Then press the CD OPEN button again to close thedisc compartment.

Total number of tracks and total playing time aredisplayed. It will take about 15 seconds when loading aCD-RW disc.

PLAYING A DISCLoad a disc.

Press the d button (or the c button on theremote control).Play begins with the first track.

To stop play, press the s button.To pause play, press the a button. To resume play, pressagain.To search for a particular point during playback, keep thef or g button pressed and release the button at thedesired point.To skip to the beginning of a track during playback,press the f or g button repeatedly.To remove the disc, press the CD OPEN button.

To start play when the power is off (Direct Play Function)Press the CD button. The power is turned on and play of theloaded disc begins.To replace the disc before play, press the CD OPEN buttonto open the disc compartment.

Selecting a track with the remote controlPress the numbered buttons and the +10 button to select atrack.Example:To select the 25th track, press the +10, +10 and 5 buttons.To select the 10th track, press the +10 and 0 buttons.The selected track starts to play and play continues to theend of that disc.

NOTE The unit may not play a CD-R/RW disc that is recorded on

personal computers or some kinds of CD-R/RW recordersbecause of differences in recording platforms.

Do not attach any seal or label to either side (therecordable side or the labeled side) of a CD-R/RW disc. Itmay cause malfunction.

When loading an unrecorded CD-R/RW disc, it may takeabout 15 seconds to open the disc compartment afterpressing the z CD OPEN button.

Do not use irregular shape CDs (example: heart-shaped,octagonal ones).It may result in malfunctions.

When loading an 8-cm (3-inch) disc, put it onto the innercircle of the tray.

Do not place more than one compact disc on the disc tray.

RANDOM PLAYAll the tracks on the disc can be played randomly.

1 In stop mode, press the MODE button on theremote control repeatedly until RANDOM lightsup on the display.

2 Press the c (d) button to start play.To cancel the random playPress the MODE button twice in stop mode. RANDOMdisappears and the normal display appears.

NOTE Even if the f button is pressed, a previously played track

cannot be skipped. The unit returns to the beginning of thecurrent track only.

During random play, one-track repeat (" 1) cannot beperformed.

If you select tracks with the numbered buttons, random playis canceled.

REPEAT PLAYOne track or all the tracks can be played repeatedly.Press the REPEAT button repeatedly on the remotecontrol.Each time it is pressed, the play mode can be selectedcyclically.

Only the current track is repeated. (" 1 is displayed.)

All the tracks are repeated. (" is displayed.)

The repeat play is canceled. (" disappears.)

To repeat random playFirst press the MODE button to activate random play. Thenpress the REPEAT button so that " lights up on the display.

PROGRAMMED PLAYUp to 30 tracks can be programmed from the inserted disc.Use the remote control.

1 In stop mode, press the MODE button on theremote control repeatedly until MEMO flasheson the display.

2 Press the numbered buttons and the +10 buttonto program a track.Example:To select the 12th track, press the +10 and 2 buttons.To select the 20th track, press the +10, +10 and 0buttons.

3 Repeat step 2 to program other tracks.4 Press the c (d) button to start play.To check the programEach time the g button is pressed in stop mode, a tracknumber and program number will be displayed.

To clear the programPress the s button in stop mode.Removing the CD from the unit will also clear the program.

To add tracks to the programBefore playing, repeat step 2. The new track will beprogrammed after the last track.

To change the programmed tracksClear the program and repeat all the steps.

NOTE If the total playing time of selected tracks exceeds 99

minutes and 59 seconds, or if a track number 31 or higheris selected, the total playing time of the selected tracks willbe represented by --:--. Although the total playing timecannot be seen, the tracks are memorized.

During programmed play, the random play cannot beselected.

RECORDINGThis section explains how to record from the radio or CDplayer.

Preparation Set the tape to the point where recording will start. Use Type I (normal) tapes only.

1 Insert the tape to be recorded.Insert the tape with the side to be recorded on facing upand the exposed side facing forward.

2 Press the TAPE/REV MODE (TAPE) button toselect the reverse mode.To record on one side only, select P.To record on both sides, select or ].If the recording starts from the reverse side, recordingwill be done on this side only even if or ] isselected.

3 Press one of the function buttons and preparethe source to be recorded.To record from a CD, press the CD button and load thedisc, then press the f or g button to select thetrack to be recorded first.To record from a radio broadcast, press the TUNER/BAND button and tune in to a station.

4 Press the w REC/REC MUTE button to startrecording.REC on the display flashes.When the selected function is CD, playback andrecording start simultaneously.

NOTEWhen operating with the remote control, press thew REC/MUTE button for 1 second to start recording.

To stop recording, press the s button.To pause recording, press the a button. (Applicable whenthe source is RADIO.) To resume recording, press again.

To record only the selected tracksSelect the tracks in the same procedure for programmedplay (page 11), then start recording.

NOTEIf squealing or beating sounds occur when recording an AMbroadcast, press the MODE button on the remote control, soas to eliminate the noise.Each time the button is pressed, the dot light on the displayis turned on and off.

INSERTING BLANK SPACESWhen recording from a radio broadcast, 4-second blankspaces can be inserted at the desired point. This helps youlocate the desired portion on the tape when it is played backlater on another cassette deck, etc., having music sensorfunction.

NOTEBlank spaces cannot freely be inserted when recording froma CD.

1 Press the w REC/REC MUTE button during recordingor while in recording pause mode.The flashing REC on the display becomes quicker andthe tape runs without recording (blank spaces areinserted).After 4 seconds, the tape pauses (recording pausemode).To make blank spaces less than 4 seconds, press thew REC/REC MUTE button again while REC flashesquickly.To make blank spaces more than 4 seconds, press thew REC/REC MUTE button again after the deck entersthe recording pause mode. Each time it is pressed, a 4-second blank space is added.

2 Press the a button to resume recording.

RECORDING

To erase a recording1 Press the TAPE/REV MODE button and insert the tape to

be erased.2 Set the tape to the point where the erasure is to be

started.3 Press the w REC/REC MUTE button to start the erasure.

Sound adjustment during recordingThe output volume and tone of the speakers or headphonesmay be freely varied without affecting the level of therecording.

TIMER PLAY/TIMER RECORDINGThe unit can be turned on at a specified time every day withthe built-in timer.

PreparationMake sure the clock is set correctly.

1 Press the TIMER button once for timer play sothat 5 flashes.Press the TIMER button twice for timerrecording so that 5 and REC flash.

2 Turn the VOLUME/TIMER control to designatethe timer-on time.The f or g button is also available.Press the button repeatedly. Holding the button downwill vary the time in 20-minute units.

3 Press the ENTER button.4 Turn the VOLUME/TIMER control to designate

the timer-activated period.The time changes between 5 and 180 minutes in 5-minute units.The f or g button is also available.

5 Press the ENTER button.6 Prepare the source.

To listen to a CD, press the CD button and load thedisc.To listen to a tape, press the TAPE/REV MODE buttonand insert the tape.To listen to the radio, press the TUNER/BAND buttonand tune in to a station.To record from a radio broadcast, press the TUNER/BAND button and tune in to a station, and insert the tapeto be recorded on.

7 Turn the VOLUME/TIMER control to set thevolume.

8 Press the POWER button to turn the unit off.When the timer-on time is reached, the unit turns on andplay begins with the selected source.

NOTE Timer play and timer recording will not begin unless the

power is turned off. If you used the unit after setting thetimer, prepare the source, adjust the volume and tone, thenturn off the power.

Timer recording from a CD is not possible. You can also set the timer while the power is off. But in

steps 1 to 5, the unit returns to the clock display if there isno operation for 2 minutes.

To check the timer setting1 Press the TIMER button once for timer play, or twice for

timer recording.The timer-on time is displayed.

2 Press the ENTER button.The timer-activated period is displayed.

3 Press the ENTER button to restore the display.

To cancel timer standby modePress the TIMER button repeatedly so that 5 or 5RECdisappears on the display.To restore the timer standby mode, press again to display 5or 5REC.

To reset the timerSet the timer again from the beginning.

SETTING THE SLEEP TIMERThe unit can be turned off automatically at a specified time.

1 Press the SLEEP button.2 Within 4 seconds, turn the VOLUME/TIMER

control to select the time until the power isturned off.The time changes between 5 and 180 minutes in 5-minute units. OFF can be selected as well.The f or g button is also available.

To check the time remaining until the power is turned offPress the SLEEP button once.The remaining time is displayed for 4 seconds.

To cancel the sleep timerPress the SLEEP button twice.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDEIf the unit fails to perform as described in these OperatingInstructions, check the following guide.

GENERALThere is no sound. Is the AC cord connected properly? If you intend to use the unit on batteries, are the batteries

correctly inserted? Was an incorrect function button pressed?An erroneous display or a malfunction occurs.

Reset the unit as stated below.

TUNER SECTIONThe reception contains noise interferences or the soundis distorted. Is the unit picking up external noise or multipath distortion?

Change the orientation of the antenna or the unit. Move the unit away from other electrical appliances.

If the power cannot be turned off in step 1 because of amalfunction, reset by disconnecting the AC cord and removeall the batteries, and then repeat step 2.

To demagnetize the headsThe heads may become magnetized after long-term use.This may narrow the output range of recorded tapes andincrease noise. After 20 to 30 hours use, demagnetize theheads with any commercially available demagnetizer.

Care of discs When a disc becomes dirty, wipe the disc from the center

out with a cleaning cloth.

After playing a disc, store the disc in its case. Do not leavethe disc in places that are hot or humid.

Care of tapes Store tapes in their cases after use. Do not leave tapes near magnets, motors, television sets,

or any source of magnetism. This will downgrade thesound quality and cause noise.

Do not expose tapes to direct sunlight, or leave them in acar parked in direct sunlight.

ALIMENTACIN

USO CON ALIMENTACIN DE UNA TOMAELCTRICA EN EL PROPIO HOGARConecte el cable de alimentacin de CA como puedeapreciar en la siguiente ilustracin.

El indicador OPE/BATT se enciende cuando el aparato estencendido.

PRECAUCINUse nicamente el cable de CA que se suministra con elaparato. La utilizacin de otros cables puede representar unpeligro de incendio.

USO CON LAS BATERASAbra la tapa del compartimento de las bateras situado en laparte posterior e inserte ocho bateras R14 (tamao C), nosuministradas, como puede apreciar en la ilustracin deabajo. Cierre a continuacin la tapa.Para cambiar de alimentacin CA a alimentacin conbateras, desconecte el cable de CA de la entrada de CA. Cuando el aparato se utiliza con pilas, la pantalla no se

iluminar.

Necesitar recambiar las bateras cuando:Vea oscurecerse el indicador OPE/BATT, se ralentice lavelocidad de la cinta, disminuya el volumen o el sonido sedistorsione durante la operacin.

Notas sobre las baterasPara evitar daar por escapes o explosiones, tenga encuanta lo siguiente: Inserte las bateras con las marcas 0 y 9 alineadas

correctamente. No mezcle distintos tipos de bateras ni viejas con nuevas. No recargue nunca las bateras. No las caliente ni las parta. Quite bateras que ya no tengan ninguna potencia.Si ve que hay escapes lquidos de las bateras, frote paralimpiar concienzudamente y quite las bateras.

NOTASi se interrumpe la alimentacin durante ms de 12 horas,todos los ajustes guardados en memoria, como el de reloj, elde temporizador y la presintonizacin de emisoras de radiosern borrados y deber realizar los preajustes de nuevo.

PREPARACIONES

MANDO A DISTANCIA

CMO INSERTAR BATERASQuite la tapa del compartimento de las bateras situada en laparte posterior del mando a distancia e inserte dos baterasR03 (tamao AAA).

Cundo recambiar las baterasLa mxima distancia operacional entre el mando a distanciay el sensor remoto de la unidad principal debera ser deaproximadamente 5 metros. Cuando esta distanciadisminuya, recambie las bateras por otras nuevas.

USO DEL MANDO A DISTANCIAAlgunas operaciones slo pueden realizarse usando losbotones del mando a distancia, o slo con los mandos de launidad principal, mientras que otras pueden llevarse a caboutilizando tanto los botones de la unidad principal como losdel mando a distancia. Este manual de instruccionesdescribe claramente los botones disponibles para cadaoperacin.

Para usar los botonesPara utilizar los botones del mando a distancia, apunte alREMOTE SENSOR del aparato principal con el mando adistancia.

NOTA Si la unidad no va a utilizarse durante largos perodos de

tiempo, saque las bateras para evitar posibles escapeselectrolticos.

El mando a distancia puede no funcionar correctamentecuando: La lnea de visin entre el mando a distancia y la unidad

est expuesta a una intensa luz, como por ejemplo la luzsolar.

Otros mandos a distancia se utilicen las cercanas delaparato (el del televisor, etc).

ANTES DE LA OPERACIN

Cmo encender la unidadPulse uno de los botones (TAPE/REV MODE, TUNER/BAND, CD).Comenzar la reproduccin del disco o de la cinta que sehaya cargado o de la cinta, o se escuchar la emisorapreviamente sintonizada (Funcin de Reproduccin Directa).Tambin dispone del botn POWER.Oprimiendo el botn z CD OPEN se enciende tambin enaparato.

Despus del usoPulse el botn POWER para apagar el aparato. Lavisualizacin de la pantalla cambiar a la del reloj.

NOTACuando use las bateras no podr apagar el aparato con elmando a distancia.

Cmo conectar los auricularesConecte los auriculares con un miniconector (3,5 mm) a latoma PHONES.Observar que no se produce sonido de los altavocesmientras los auriculares estn conectados.

AJUSTE DEL RELOJ

Cuando se conecta el cable de alimentacin en un enchufede la pared por vez primera despus de comprar el aparato,la indicacin del reloj parpadea.

1 Pulse el botn CLOCK.Ver parpadear 5.

2 Gire el control VOLUME/TIMER para ajustar elreloj.Para llevar a cabo un ajuste rpido, gire el controlrpidamente.Puede pulsar tambin el botn f o g. Seguirmanteniendo estos botones har que la hora se sigacambiando en saltos de 20 minutos cada vez.

3 Pulse el botn ENTER o a para completar elajuste.Ver desaparecer 5 de la pantalla y el reloj comenzara contar desde 00 segundos.

Cmo visualizar la ahora actualPulse el botn CLOCK.Para regresar a la pantalla de operacin, pulse el botnCLOCK o uno de los botones de funcin.

Para cambiar al estndar de 12/24 horasMientras se visualiza el reloj, pulse el botn s.En la modalidad de indicacin de 12 horas, AM 12:00indica la medianoche y PM 12:00 indica el medioda.

Si la pantalla del reloj parpadea mientras el aparato estapagadoEsto es debido a una interrupcin de la potencia. La horaactual deber ser reseteada.Si se interrumpe la potencia durante ms deaproximadamente 12 horas, los valores de todos los ajustesguardados en memoria despus de la adquisicin delaparato se borrarn y debern ser llevados a cabo de nuevo.

Cmo visualizar el nivel de volumen actualPulse el botn DISPLAY del mando a distancia.El nivel de volumen se visualiza durante 4 segundos.

SISTEMA SUPER T-BASSEl sistema T-BASS aumenta el realismo del sonido de bajasfrecuencias.Pulse el botn T-BASS.

Para cancelar, pulse de nuevo el botn.

NOTAPuede distorsionarse el sonido de bajas frecuencias cuandoel sistema T-BASS se usa con un disco o cinta en la que elsonido de baja frecuencia ya estaba realzado originalmente.En estos casos, cancele el sistema T-BASS.

SISTEMA Q SURROUNDEl sistema Q SURROUND que lleva incorporado esteaparato usa solamente dos altavoces a la derecha y a laizquierda para crear una atmsfera que suena como siestuviese rodeado por dos altavoces frontales y dostraseros.Pulse el botn Q SURROUND.

Para cancelar, pulse de nuevo el botn.

NOTA El sistema Q SURROUND no funciona en modo

monoaural. Activar Q SURROUND cuando el volumen est muy alto

puede causar distorsiones en el sonido. En estos casos,baje el volumen.

MODO DEL ECUALIZADOROprima repetidamente el botn 3-MODE EQ del aparato o elbotn EQ del mando a distancia.La modalidad cambia cclicamente a ROCK, POP, JAZZ omodalidad normal.

CMO INSERTAR UNA CINTAUse nicamente cintas del Tipo I (normales).

Oprima el botn TAPE/REV MODE (o el botn TAPEdel mando a distancia) y presione sobre la marcaOPEN para abrir el portacasete.

Inserte una cinta con la cada expuesta mirando hacia arriba.Empuje el portacasetes para cerrarlo.Cmo seleccionar un modo de inversinCada vez que pulse el botn TAPE/REV MODE (TAPE),cambiar el modo de inversin.

Para reproducir slo una cara, selecciones P.Para reproducir desde la cara delantera a la trasera slo unavez, seleccione .Para reproducir ambas caras repetidamente, seleccione].

REPRODUCCIN DE UNA CINTAInserte una cinta.

Pulse el botn d (o el botn c del mando adistancia) para iniciar la reproduccin.

x: El lado que mira hacia arriba es el que se estreproduciendo (hacia adelante).

c: El lado opuesto es el que se est reproduciendo(inversin).

Para detener la reproduccin, pulse el botn s.Para pausar la reproduccin, pulse el botn a. Parareiniciar la reproduccin, plselo de nuevo.Para cambiar el lado de reproduccin, pulse el botn den el modo de reproduccin.Para pasar hacia adelante o rebobinar la cinta, pulse elbotn f o g en el modo de parada. Seguidamente,pulse el botn s para detener la cinta.

Para iniciar la reproduccin con el aparato apagado(Funcin de Reproduccin Directa).Pulse el botn TAPE/REV MODE (TAPE). Se encender elaparato, inicindose la reproduccin de la cinta que se hayacargado.

Cmo poner el contador de la cinta a 0000Pulse el botn s en modo de parada.El contador se pone a 0000 cuando el portacasetes se abre.

Acerca de las cintas Para evitar un borrado accidental, rompa las

lengetas de la cinta con un destornillador u otraherramienta puntiaguda una vez terminada lagrabacin.

Para grabar de nuevo sobre la cinta, cubra lasaberturas de la lengeta con cinta adhesiva, etc.

Las cintas de 120 minutos o de mayor duracin sonextremadamente finas y se deforman o daan confacilidad. No se recomienda su uso.

Elimine cualquier holgura existente en la cinta con unlpiz u objeto similar antes de usar. Las combaduras yholguras pueden romper o atascar el mecanismo.

SINTONIZACIN MANUAL

1 Pulse repetidamente el botn TUNER/BANDpara seleccionar la banda deseada.

Si se apaga el aparato, se escuchar la emisorapreviamente sintonizada (Funcin de ReproduccinDirecta).

2 Pulse el botn f o g para seleccionar unaemisora.Cada vez que se pulse el botn, la frecuencia cambia.Durante la recepcin de FM en estreo, se visualiza"STEREO".

Cmo buscar una emisora rpidamente (Autobsqueda)Mantenga pulsado el botn f o g hasta que la radiocomience a buscar una emisora. Despus de sintonizar unaemisora, la bsqueda se detiene.Para detener la Autobsqueda manualmente, pulse el botnf o g. La Autobsqueda puede no detenerse en emisoras cuya

seal sea muy dbil.

Cmo obtener una mejor recepcinFMExtienda la antena FM y orintela para lograr una mejorrecepcin.AMLa antena AM se halla en el interior del aparato. Sitelo demanera que obtenga la mejor recepcin.

Cuando una emisin FM en estreo contiene ruidoPulse el botn MODE en el mando a distancia.MONO aparece en la pantalla.Se reducir el ruido, aunque la recepcin ser manoaural.

Para regresar a la recepcin estreo, repita las instruccionesanteriores de nuevo.

Cmo cambiar el intervalo de sintonizacin AMEl valor por defecto del intervalo de sintonizacin AM es de10 kHz/incremento. Si utiliza este aparato en una zona en laque el sistema de asignacin de frecuencias sea de 9kHz/incremento, cambie el intervalo de sintonizacin.Pulse el botn POWER mientras pulsa el botn TUNER/BAND en el aparato.Para resetear el intervalo, repita este procedimiento.

NOTACuando se cambie el intervalo de sintonizacin de AM, seborran todas las presintonas (ver "PRESINTONIZACIN DEEMISORAS"). Deber presintonizar las emisoras de nuevo.

1 Oprima el botn TUNER/BAND para seleccionaruna banda. Luego, oprima el botn f o gpara seleccionar una emisora.

2 Pulse el botn a para guardar una emisora enla memoria.Se asigna una emisora a un nmero de presintona,comenzando desde el 1 y en orden consecutivo paracada banda.

Preparacin Ponga la cinta en el punto en el cual comenzar la

El temporizador puede tambin ajustarse cuando el aparatoest apagado. Pero en los pasos 1 a 5, el aparato vuelve apresentar la indicacin del reloj si no se hace ningunaoperacin durante un espacio de 2 minutos.

Para comprobar el ajuste del temporizador1 Oprima el botn TIMER una vez para ver el ajuste de

Si intenta usar el aparato cuando las bateras estngastadas, la cinta puede detenerse durante lareproduccin o la grabacin y el portacasetes no seabrir.Si ste fuera el caso, recambie las bateras por otrasnuevas o conecte el cable de CA que se suministra alaparato y seguidamente saque la cinta.

2 Polarit En guise de mesure de scurit, certains appareilssont quips de fiches dalimentation polarises qui ne peuventtre introduites que dans un sens dans une prise murale (secteur).Sil savre difficile ou impossible dintroduire la fiche dalimentationdans la prise secteur, retournez la fiche et ressayez. Si vous neparvenez toujours pas lenficher aisment, appelez un techniciendentretien qualifi pour entretenir ou rparer la prise. Pour quecette mesure de scurit soit pleinement efficace, ne forcez pasla fiche polarise dans une prise murale.

3 Cordon dalimentation- Lorsque vous dbranchez le cordon dalimentation, saisissez la

fiche. Ne tirez pas sur le cordon.- Ne manipulez pas le cordon dalimentation avec des mains

mouilles, car il y a un risque dincendie ou dlectrocution.- Fixez correctement les cordons dalimentation pour viter quils

ne soient plis, coincs ou pitins. Faites particulirementattention au cordon reliant lappareil la prise secteur.

- Eviter de surcharger les prises secteur et les cordons derallonge au-del de leur capacit, car cela pourrait entraner unfeu ou un choc lectrique.

4 Prolongateurs Pour viter tout risque de dcharge lectrique,nutilisez pas une fiche dalimentation polarise avec un cordonprolongateur, une prise multiple ou toute autre prise si elle ne peuttre compltement introduite de manire viter dexposer unepartie des lames de la fiche.

5 En cas dinutilisation Dbranchez le cordon dalimentationde la prise murale si vous comptez ne pas utiliser lappareilpendant plusieurs mois ou plus. Lorsque la fiche est branche,une lgre quantit de courant continue passer dans lappareil,mme sil est hors tension.

ALIMENTATION FOURNIE

UTILISATION SUR COURANT SECTEURRaccordez le cordon secteur comme indiqu sur

Lindicateur OPE/BATT sallume lorsque lappareil est soustension.

PRCAUTIONUtilisez uniquement le cordon secteur fourni. L'utilisationd'autres cordons peut provoquer un risque d'incendie.

UTILISATION SUR PILESOuvrez le couvercle du logement des piles au dos et insrezhuit piles R14 (format C) non fournies, comme illustr ci-dessous. Puis refermez le couvercle.Pour passer de l'alimentation secteur fournie l'alimentation fournie par les piles, dbranchez le cordonsecteur de la prise secteur de l'appareil. Lorsque lappareil fonctionne sur piles, laffichage nest pas

clair.

Il faut remplacer les piles quand:Le tmoin OPE/BATT devient sombre, la vitesse de lacassette ralentit, le volume baisse, ou le son est distorsionnpendant l'opertion.

Remarques sur les pilesPour viter tout dommage provenant d'une fuite de liquide oud'une explosion, observez les points suivants: Insrez les piles en alignant correctement les marques 0 et9.

Ne mlangez pas diffrents types de piles ou des pilesuses avec des neuves.

Ne jamais recharger les piles, les chauffer Enlevez les piles uses.En cas de fuite de liquide des piles, essuyez compltementpour tout enlever.

REMARQUESi une coupure de courant se produit pendant plus de 12heures, tous les rglages mmoriss, tels que l'horloge, laminuterie, et le prrglage des stations, seront supprims etdevront tre refaits.

PRPARATIFS

TLCOMMANDE

INSERTION DES PILESDtachez le couvercle du logement des piles au dos de latlcommande et insrez deux piles R03 (format AAA).

Remplacement des pilesLa porte maximale de la tlcommande, savoir ladistance entre la tlcommande et le capteur sur l'unitprincipale est d'environ 5 mtres. Remplacez les piles quandla porte diminue.

UTILISATION DE LA TLCOMMANDEQuelques oprations peuvent s'effectuer avec les touches dela tlcommande uniquement, ou uniquement avec celles del'unit principale, tandis que d'autres peuvent s'effectueraussi bien avec les touches de l'unit principale qu'aveccelles de la tlcommande. Ce Mode d'emploi dcritclairement les touches qui sont disponibles pour chaqueopration.

Pour utiliser les touchesDiriger la tlcommande sur le capteur de tlcommandeREMOTE SENSOR de lappareil principal pour pouvoirutiliser les touches de la tlcommande.

REMARQUE Si l'appareil doit rester inutilis pendant une priode

prolonge, retirez les piles pour viter tout risque de fuited'lectrolyte.

La tlcommande peut ne pas fonctionner correctementquand: La ligne de vision entre la tlcommande et l'appareil est

expose une lumire intense, par exemple en pleinsoleil.

D'autres tlcommandes sont utilises proximit (celledu tlviseur, etc.)

La touche c sur la tlcommande a la mme fonction quela touche d l'unti principale.

AVANT LA MISE EN SERVICE

Pour mettre sous tensionAppuyez sur l'une des touches de fonction (TAPE/REVMODE, TUNER/BAND, CD).La lecture du disque insr ou la cassette commence, ou lastation prcdemment accorde est reue (fonction delecture directe).La touche POWER est galement valide.Lappareil steint galement lorsquon appuie sur la touchez CD OPEN.

Aprs l'utilisationAppuyez sur la touche POWER pour mettre hors tension.L'afficheur passe l'affichage de l'horloge.

REMARQUESi vous utilisez l'appareil sur piles, vous ne pouvez pasmettre sous tension avec la tlcommande.

Pour utiliser les couteursRaccordez les couteurs mini-fiche stro (3,5 mm) laprise PHONES.Aucun son ne sort des enceintes quand des couteurs sontbranchs.

RGLAGE DE L'HORLOGE

Lorsquon branche le cordon dalimentation dans une prisesecteur pour la premire fois aprs lachat de lappareil,laffichage de lhorloge clignote.

1 Appuyez sur la touche CLOCK.5 clignote.

2 Tournez la commande VOLUME/TIMER pourrgler l'horloge.Pour un rglage rapide, tournez rapidement lacommande.Vous pouvez galement appuyez sur la touche f oug. En maintenant ces touches enfonces vous faitesvarier l'heure par unit de 20 minutes.

3 Appuyez sur la touche ENTER ou a pourcomplter le rglage.5 disparait de l'afficheur et l'horloge dmarre partir de00 secondes.

Pour afficher l'heure actuelleAppuyez sur la touche CLOCK.Pour retourner l'affichage d'opration, appuyez sur latouche CLOCK ou l'une des touches de fonction.

Pour passer du systme 12 heures /24 heuresPendant l'affichage de l'horloge, appuyez sur la touche s.Au format de 12 heures, AM 12:00 indique minuit, etPM 12:00 indique midi.

Si l'affichage de l'horloge clignote alors que l'appareilest hors tensionCeci est d une coupure de d'alimentation. L'heure actuelledoit tre remise l'heure.Si la coupure dure plus de 12 heures environ, tous lesrglages en mmoire aprs achat doivent tre rinitialiss.

RGLAGE DU SON

COMMANDE VOLUMETournez la commande VOLUME/TIMER sur l'unitprincipale ou appuyez sur les touches VOLUME sur latlcommande.Le niveau du volume saffiche sous forme de chiffre de 0 Max (31). Le volume se rgle automatiquement au niveau 21si lon met lappareil hors tension alors que le volume rglau niveau 22 ou plus.

Pour afficher le niveau du volume actuelAppuyez sur la touche DISPLAY sur la tlcommande.Le niveau du volume s'affiche pendant 4 secondes.

SYSTME SUPER T-BASSLe systme T-BASS accentue le ralisme du son bassesfrquences.Appuyez sur la touche T-BASS.

Pour annuler, appuyez nouveau sur la touche.

REMARQUEIl peut se produire une distorsion du son bassesfrquences lorsque le systme T-BASS est utilis pour undisque ou une cassette dont le son basses frquencestait accentu l'origine. Dans ce cas, annulez le systmeT-BASS.

SYSTME Q SURROUNDLe systme Q SURROUND intgr cet appareil utiliseuniquement deux enceintes droite et gauche pour crerune atmosphre qui vous donne l'impression d'tre entourde deux enceintes avant et deux enceintes arrire.Appuyez sur la touche QSURROUND.

Pour annuler, appuyez nouveau sur la touche.

REMARQUE Le systme Q SURROUND ne fonctionne pas dans le

mode monaural. des plus hauts volumes, activer le systme Q

SURROUND peut provoquer une distorsion du son. Dansce cas, baissez le volume.

MODE GALISEURAppuyer de faon rpte sur la touche 3-MODE EQ delappareil ou sur la touche EQ de la tlcommande.Le mode parcourt le cycle suivant : ROCK, POP, JAZZ, etmode normal.
