The Course

Business Administration Option - prepares students in the following: Marketing, General Management, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurial skills and Business planning.

Marketing Option - is structured to enable students develop a high level of interpersonal and mass communication skills, the capacity for self-development, and the ability to respond to changes in the business environment.

Entrepreneurship Option - prepares students to start their own businesses, to work for small businesses, work with small business development entities or introduce a new product or idea into the market place.

Microfinance Management Option - offers a wide exposure to the field an practical understanding of the fundamentals and principles of microfinance coupled with an appreciation of various microfinance approaches and methodologies and the potential of microfinance.

Management Science Option - is designed to provide the students with the logical, mathematical, project management, systems thinking, and information systems and technology skills that are much in demand. Careers include: general management; technical roles; project management: operations management, purchasing; logistics

The Bachelor of Commerce course integrates two key aspects of business training: Business and Financial Studies and Information Technology.The course has been designed to provide a general coverage of business management courses, encompassing all aspects of business, finance, management, and IT, which are a crucial part of the business training for world-class business students. Our students are also exposed to courses in humanities, business ethics and languages. which give them the capacity to analyse operations and to engage in decision-making in business organisations. The course is offered both day and evening programmes.

CareersStudents can choose an area of specialisation in any one of the seven areas: Accounting; Finance; Business Administration; Marketing; Entrepreneurship; Microfinance Management; Management Science.

Accounting Option - In addition to the normal advanced accounting units the University also offers courses specifically tailored for the Not-for-Profit Sector and other quasi-government bodies. This widens the job market for students.

Finance Option - is structured to include latest international practices such as Financial Modelling with spreadsheets. The Option prepares students to for careers in this field as well as take further studies. Potential employers include: stock broking firms; finance houses; fund/capital and asset managers.

eduCaTion FinanCing

To help you manage your education financing, Strathmore has partnered with Commercial Bank of Africa and the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation to offer low-interest loans to students pursuing degrees and diplomas at the University. Students can also get loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

Learning FaCiLiTiesE-LearningStrathmore University is a pioneer in the use of ICT. Our e-learning system enables students to view the coursework material that lecturers have posted, submit their finished assignments, update their calendars, interact and chat with fellow students, participate in various fora and communicate with their lecturer. Students have access to numerous computer laboratories, unlimited Internet, a wide range of software and e-mail. A wireless network enables students with laptops access to the network from various locations around the campus.

Library The library complex and reading room are spacious, with an atmosphere that is highly conducive to private study and research. The wide range of material contributes to the

Entrance ExaminationCandidates seeking to do the BCom are required to sit for an Entrance Examination. It consists of a Mathematics exam, an English exam and an oral interview.

Interviews will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Candidates should report to the University by 8.00am, on the day of the interview and should bring 3 passport-size photographs, copy of national ID, bir th cer t i f icate or passpor t ; or ig ina l and photocopies of all relevant academic and professional cer tificates and KShs  600entrance examination fee.
