+HOME BOOKS
Children will be receiving a folder with several books that they
may read during the week. Repetition is beneficial to beginning
readers, so the books can be read over and over to develop
reading skills and familiarity. The home books will be selected
by the child, at an appropriate level, designated by the teacher.
Home Books will be sent home every MONDAY. Please make
sure you return them the following Monday.
Procedure
Read the title of the story together.
Make predictions before you begin reading.
Help your child point to each word as they read. If your child is
not ready to read, read the text with them.
Record the books on the home book log.
+HOMEWORK
The expectation of Prep students is that they spend 10 minutes
a night, reading. This may involve your child reading (from
Home Books or other source) or listening to a story. On
occasion, a Math or other activity sheet may be sent home to
completed during the week. Later in the year sight words will
be sent home for reading as well. Further details will be shared
at that time.
+FREE PLAY
The young child learns many things through play. Play activities
are essential for their development across all developmental
areas. Without the opportunity for play and an environment
that supports it, children’s learning is limited. Early childhood
programs that provide time for play that promotes and supports
learning increase and enhance children’s opportunities for
success in school and life!
