Background Information!
This topic supports some objectives in the EYFS and National Curriculum for Year One and Two in many
areas. The idea of this topic is to enable children to become confident with who they are and allow
opportunities to think about transition into their new year group for September. Some of the things on
the plan would be things we would usually be doing in Term 6 if school life was ‘normal’.
Key vocabulary: body parts and senses words, feelings words, same, different, individual, identity.
Key Texts: Only One You/You Be You – Linda Kranz, My World, Your World – Melanie Walsh, It’s OK To Be Different –
Todd Parr, What Makes Me Happy – Catherine and Laurence Anholt, The Huge Bag of Worries – Virginia Ironside

Learn your address. What
does the information in each
line mean?
Can you write it down?
(Remember never to share
your personal information
with strangers).
Use Topic resource 1 to label as many body
parts as you can.
You can either write or cut and stick the labels.
Alternatively, if you have an old roll of paper, lay
down and get someone to draw around you then
you can label yourself!
Things have been a bit difficult for everyone
lately and in September, things are going to
change again. It’s ok to feel worried and upset. In
fact, it’s ok to feel anything you like. The
important thing is to share your feelings with a
grown-up you trust. Use this chart to explore
your feelings, to help you feel in control (see
Topic resource 4).
Complete Topic resource 2 & 3 and keep it to
give to your new teacher in September.
We can’t wait to get to know you and this will
help us to find out all about you!
Talk to the people in your family
and find out about their favourite
food, colour, toy, story, activity.
What are the similarities and
differences? Ask your grown up for a selection of photographs
from when you were younger.
Can you put them in order? Look how much you have
changed! Think of things you can do now that you
couldn’t do when you were younger. Now think of
things you will be able to do when you are a bit older.
Sing along to “I’ve got a
Body” and
“If I were a Butterfly”.
Practise some actions and
maybe you could even
make up some new actions and verses of your own?
Our five senses help us to find out about the world
around us. Make a
senses collection of
things you like to
see, hear, smell,
touch and taste.
Make a family lockdown handprint picture. Each
person paints their hand a
different colour and makes
a print. Wait for them all to
dry then stick one on top of
the other, biggest at the
bottom, smallest on top.
Trust. Honesty. Love. Respect. Forgiveness.
These are our five Herne Christian values.
Talk to your grown-ups about what these mean then design a
poster about the one that you think is most important.
Save it for when we start school again in September and share it
with your new teacher.

English Activities:
For the next two weeks, try doing a little bit of writing each day to link in with our topic of All About Me. Here are some
activities to spark your imagination:
Handwriting: Try practising writing some of our spelling words in your neatest, joined up cursive writing – pretty,
beautiful, after, fast, last, past, sure, sugar, eye
Draw a picture of yourself and label it with adjectives to describe what you look like and your personality. E.g. blue
eyes, tall, funny, helpful.
Write a letter to your new teacher at the Juniors to introduce yourself and tell them all about you. Things that you
could include:
Your name
Your age
Your family
Your pets
Your favourite things such as favourite colour, subject, food etc
Create a fact file on yourself! Here are some suggested headings:
My family
My favourite things
Fun facts about me!
Write an acrostic poem using your name down the side e.g. A- M - Y and write a sentence about yourself using each
initial letter as the start of your sentence.
E.g. A ll my friends are important
M y dog is called Jane
Y ellow is my favourite colour
Interview a member of your family! Think about what you would like to ask one of your family members and write a
list of questions to ask. Remember to include correct punctuation!
Practise your dictation skills! Get your adult to read out the following passage (without you seeing it!) and write
down what you hear. Remember to use neat, cursive writing, appropriate punctuation and try your hardest with the
spellings.
My parents told me that I am kind and beautiful. I have many friends and we like to climb up trees in the park.
What fun we have! When it gets cold we have to put warm clothes on and go inside.
Fill in English resource 1 with key information about yourself
Imagine that you are the main character of an adventure story and create a story map (English resource 2) about
an exciting journey that you go on. Draw pictures in the boxes and label with some key vocabulary/phrases to
support your writing. Things to consider:
Where is the story set?
Who are the main characters?
Is there a problem that you have to solve?
How will your story end? Will it have a happy ending?
Use your story plan from the activity above to create your own adventure story about yourself. Remember to write
the story in chronological order (in time order).

Maths Activities:
For the next two weeks, try revising all of the different skills that we’ve learnt this year.
Here are some activities that you could try:
Measure parts of your body (e.g. hand span from thumb to little finger, foot length, height) using a
ruler or tape measure and recording in cm/mm. If you don’t have any measuring equipment, you could use
non-standard units to measure e.g. building blocks, Lego pieces.
Complete the ‘All About Me’ Maths resource 1, exploring numbers that are personal to you
Using your understanding of time to solve the word problems in Maths resource 2
Investigate the three statements below. Create and solve your own number sentences to find out if
they are ‘always true’, ‘sometimes true’ or ‘never true’
When you add two even numbers together you get an even number.
When you add two odd numbers together you get an odd number.
When you add an odd number to an even number you get an odd number.
Write your own word problems for the following four calculations, then solve them!
e.g. 4 x 5 = you could write ‘I bought 4 bunches of bananas. There are 5 bananas in each bunch. How
many bananas did I buy in total?’
25 + 29 =
42 – 18 =
5 x 6 =
18 ÷ 2 =
Use your knowledge of addition and subtraction to solve the missing number problems in Maths
resource 3
Apply your understanding of place value to fill in the missing numbers from sections of a hundred square
in Maths resource 4. Remember that you need add/subtract 1s when going across, and you need to
add/subtract 10s when going up and down.
Thinking about money, can you remember what all the coins are? Using your knowledge of coins, how
many different ways of making 25p can you think of?
e.g. 10p + 10p + 5p = 25p
5p + 5p + 5p + 5p + 5p = 25p
Find the next three numbers in the following sequences
34, 36, 38, ___, ___, ___
50, 45, 40, ___, ___, ___
12, 16, 20, ___, ___, ___
Can you make up your own number sequences going forward or backwards?
Using a pack of cards, play ‘higher or lower’. Look at the first in the deck and predict whether the next card will be
higher or lower (ace is low, king is high). This develops reasoning skills and knowledge of place value.

Maths Resource 2 (time word problems)
1. I went swimming at 4 o’clock. I was in the pool for 1 hour, what time did I
get out?
2. Mary’s birthday is in February. 4 months later it is James’ birthday. What

5. I went on holiday for 3 weeks, but unfortunately I had to come home 4
days early. How many days was I away for?
6. I looked after my friend’s dog for 2 weeks and 4 days, I picked him up on
Thursday, what day did I give him back?
Maths Resource 3 (missing number problems)
60 + 5 = ___
30 + ___ = 34
16 + ___ = 86
99 = 100 - ___
48 = ___ - 2
