Story Background In order an event to be considered successful every little detail in its organization has to be polished to perfection. The catering service at an event is one of these many details, which, however, plays an important role for the final impression left in the attending guests. Planning the catering for an event can be a challenging task even for an experienced catering manager. It depends on a lot of factors including guests’ profile and preferences, special needs, event schedule, etc. Apart from these factors a catering manager has to consider carefully what food and beverages have to be ordered and in what quantities. Furthermore, they have to ensure that the menu they have selected fits into the event budget. If the event is of a larger scale, the whole task can become really time consuming. These aspects of a catering manager job have become my motivation to develop a Fiori App, which can support them in the planning of a menu for an event. Segmentation The designed Fiori App will be applicable for the hospitality industry, especially event management. Targeting Catering managers are the main target group of this app. It could help them with the planning of catering for events of different scale. Positioning The Fiori App we are going to develop will provide a quick and easy way for a catering manager to plan a menu for an event. The app will give an overview of the most important information about an event such as its type (conference, meeting, etc.), guests’ profile, location, etc. Based on these specifics they will be able to select the menu components and dishes. They will have the possibility to see if the selected menu fits in the planned budget and finally send an order for the necessary goods.

Point of View

Julia, the catering manager, needs a way to quickly plan the menu for an event and make the order for the necessary products for it because she needs enough time to prepare the rest of the details for the event like tables, team, schedule, etc.

Mockups Below you can find four low fidelity mockups for the menu planning Fiori app. The four screens together represent one walk through the process of a planning a menu starting from viewing the event details, selecting the necessary courses, selecting appropriate dishes and finally sending an order for the required products.

Now, based on the information she has just seen, she makes a choice for the dishes. Since the event lasts a whole day she needs several courses. There are breaks at 11 AM, 13 PM and 16 PM, which pass perfectly for breakfast, lunch and a small afternoon snack. She makes her choice after checking also the details for some of the dishes:
