We raise close to $3000 on the day which will go a very long way in purchasing resources for your child's educaon and the environment they learn in. District Athlecs: We had quite a number of our students who went par- cularly well at our district athlecs. This means that these students will now go into the Division Athlecs later this month. This is a fabulous accomplishment and I wish them all the very best at the next level. No doubt we will hear how they went aſter the event. Good luck and enjoy!! Italian Day TOMORROW: We will be celebrang Italian in our school tomorrow. We are asking that the children dress in Italian style or colours for the day. Senora Falcone has been busily or- ganising a variety of acvies that the children and teachers will be doing over the day. We hope that you are able to pop in and see what the students are doing. It should be a wonderful day with lots of fun things hap- pening. Just Get Acve Program: We have been trialling this program across the school for part of this year and all teachers have found it to be worthwhile and beneficial for the students. It consists of 5 elements in the fitness modules. They are: Engage (Mind & Body warm up); Energise (Cardio Aerobic); Em- power (Strength); Resilience (Flexibility) and Focus (Mindfulness). There is a cost to this program and we unfortunately did not factor this cost into our budget for this year. Therefore I am asking if ALL parents can contribute $2 for the remainder of this year. A note will be coming home next week asking for this contribuon. Next year we will factor this cost into our materials charge at the beginning of the year. This is a worth- while program and one that the children enjoy each and every day. Thank you for your understanding and support for this program. Tracy Doherty on Leave: Tracy Doherty our assistant principal will be on long service leave for the last two weeks of term. I sincerely hope that she enjoys her leave and her well deserved break. of deceased ex-service personnel. Each year, during the first week of September, Legacy conducts a

Badge Appeal to raise funds to help provide the care and assistance currently provided to around

1400 widows, six school children and some disabled adults in the Geelong area.

For many years we have been assisting Legacy by selling Legacy Badges within the School communi-

have the opportunity of buying badges and supporting Legacy Week. Items may also be bought from the front office.

It’s Toucan time again!!

The Geelong Food Relief Centre has been providing free food to those in need for 24 years. Work-

ing together with welfare agencies, last year we saw 11,000 families referred to GFRC for support.

Each individual donation makes its way on to a family’s table. This could be a family in your street.

Some of the most requested items are cereal, crackers, cake mix, powdered milk, pasta/sauce side

dishes, flour, sugar, foil, cling-wrap, garbage bags, toothbrushes and paste.

There is a Toucan Appeal box in the foyer so if you are able to contribute to this Appeal it would be very much appreciated.

Geelong Food Relief are also seeking suggestions via Facebook for a poster for their appeal for 2016.

BOOK FAIR

The Scholastic Book Fair for 2015 was once again a successful fundraiser for our school. Lots of excited students visited the library during the week and bought a lovely book or special keepsake. It has been great to see children so happy to read and share their sto-ries. Special thanks to all the wonderful par-ent helpers from the Blackley, Benson, Da-vis, Hauenstein, Kay, Marendaz, Sharp, Wil-son, Harvey, McLaren, Hutchison and

Doherty families who gave up their time each morning and afternoon to help out at the Fair. We sold $3591 of books and made a to-tal profit of $718.20 and we also received $100 worth of new books which we were able to select for our school library. Look out for ‘The Very Noisy Bear’, ‘The Day the Cray-ons Came Home’ and ’65 Storey Treehouse’ as well as lots of other titles on the ‘New Book’ stand now! Thanks for your support. Tracy Doherty.

ITALIAN DAY

Tomorrow we are celebrating ‘Italian Day’ as part of the Italian program at Grovedale PS.

All students from Prep to Year 6 will participate in some fun activities.

Students can become involved by:

Wearing one or all of the Italian flag colours on the day, which are GREEN, WHITE and

RED.

There will be lots of fun activities in which students can participate and learn about Italy

and its culture throughout the day.

Some of the activities with be pasta threading, constructing a colosseum, Michelangelo

paintings, pasta art and many more.

It will be a fun way of celebrating our learning.

Let’s all join in and enjoy the celebrations!
