Ang YAWS o BAKATAW ay isang impeksiyon na sanhi ng isang mikrobyo na nakakaapekto sa balat, buto, at kartilago.

PAPILLOMAthis is a single or multiple yellow bumps on the skin.For children who live in endemic villages, this may be the early presentation of yaws.

BUKOLIto ay isang solo o maramihang mga dilaw na butlig or bukol sa balat. Para sa mgabata na nakatira sa lugar na may maraming yaws, ito ay maaaring mga maagangpalatandaan ng yaws.

DIAGNOSISA simple, rapid test is now available to confirm yaws using a fingerprickdrop of blood.

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER

• Yaws can be cured with a single-dose oral azithromycin (30mg/kg)

• The disease is transmitted through person to person contact

• It affects mostly children as the often play together

• Untreated, the infection can lead to chronic disfigurement and

disability

• Yaws occurs in poor rural communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America

and the Pacific

• Health education and improved personal hygiene are essential

components of prevention

• Maaaring gumaling ang taong may yaws kapag uminom siya ng isang dosis ng

azithromycin (30mg / kg)

• Ang sakit ay nakukuha sa pamamagitan ng paghawak ng balat ng may yaws

• Ito ay nakakaapekto nang madalas sa mga bata habang madalas silang

naglalaro.

• Kapag hindi nagamot ang yaws, ang impeksiyon ay maaaring humantong sa

talamak na pagpapapangit at kapansanan ng balat at buto.

• Nangyayari ang yaws sa mahihirap na komunidad sa Africa, Asia, Latin America

at ang Pacific.

mahalagang bahagi ng pag-iwas.

COMPLICATIONSWithout treatment, yaws can destroy the nose (gangosa) and the bones causing the leg to bend (sabre shin)..
