Announcing New Balboa Websites: balboamagnet.com & balboaparents.org

Balboa Magnet Elementary School is happy to announce the

launching of two new websites. The official school site

www.balboamagnet.com will contain important information on

the school and its policies. As it continues to develop, families

will also be able to access important updates from their chil-

dren's teachers.

The new parent website www. balboaparents.org has also been

completely redesigned and will focus primarily on how families

can support Balboa Magnet. We intend to post important school-

wide event information, volunteer opportunities and information

on how to help raise funds for the school.

The success of these two websites will depend on you! If you

would like information posted on either site, please send docu-

ments in formats that can be edited (e.g., word, publisher. DO

NOT send pdfs). Include any deadlines in the subject line and

email to Jocelyn Guihama [email protected]. who will

forward to the administrators for approval and posting.

The Green Beat What happens to those little

plastic baggies once you’ve finished eating your sand-

wich? If you throw them in the trash, they either

make it to the local landfill where they will likely re-

main for hundreds of years or end up in our water-

ways and oceans. Sadly, up to one million sea birds

and one hundred thousand marine mammals are

killed each year by plastic trash. However, there is

some GOOD NEWS… Plastic sandwich bags and

wrappers can be recycled! Our friends at TerraCycle

upcycle plastic baggies into composite lumber, which

is used for outdoor decking, furniture and more. Last

year, Balboa Magnet students collected over 2,000

plastic baggies and, they have already collected nearly 1,000 baggies since school began this year! The news gets even better…

TerraCycle will donate 2 cents to Balboa Magnet for every baggie we collect!

Don’t forget… The next “Stop, Drop and Recycle” event is Friday morning, November 4th. Just drive up and drop off your

empty water bottles, printer ink cartridges, old cell phones, plastic Ziploc baggies, and empty glue sticks.

For more information, please contact Kelly Mitchell at [email protected]

FEELING MUSICAL?

Come help The Balboa Orchestra!

This year we have 135 students total in the or-

chestra, and only one teacher. This is 40 stu-

dents more than the district's recommended

number! In order to meet the needs of each student and

keep lessons moving forward smoothly we are looking for a

few helpers:

help with tuning violins

assistance during class time (especially

those with knowledge about playing flute,

clarinet, trumpet, or violin)

a piano accompanist (for the spring concert)
