Leucocephalus.(meaning: sea eagle) Bald Eagles are only one type of eagle There are many other types of eagles,
such as the Golden Eagle and the Tawny Eagle
Bald eagles are our nation’s symbol
What Bald Eagles look like Large with black or brown feathers The tail and head are white feathers They weigh about 15 pounds Their length is 1 to 2 feet Their wingspan is 6 feet wide Their face is white, while the rest of their body is
brown like a pile of mud, except for their talons Talons are sharp feet that carry their food They also have a sharp yellow beak for tearing
food.

DDT farmers used it to get pesticides off their crops but it ended up harming bald eagles.
Babies Females lay 1-3 babies. In 6 weeks they hatch. They leave their nest when they are 12
weeks old, by then they know how to hunt and live on their own.
Behaviors When they hunt they use their talons. They can actually swim! They make high chirps and piercing
screams. They mate for life.

They migrate south or they would freeze.
eagles look for a nesting site with no adults or their babies would die.
They return to the same nest or they would have to rebuild.
Physiological Adaptations They have hollow bones to help them
fly. They have sharp eyesight to see
prey(or predator). They have their heart and lungs are so
efficient that they can fly high without losing oxygen.
Eagles don’t have feathers because it would drag.
