Filtration+Separation July/August 2013
Baldwin Filters has held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of the 400 000 sq ft expansion to its headquarters in Kearney, Nebraska, USA, that the company announced earlier this year.
The new distribution centre will take 18 months to complete at an estimated cost of US$40 million. About US$20 million of the total investment will be made in fiscal 2013.
The project will more than double the number of loading docks at the facility and will feature an upgraded warehouse
management system to increase productivity and efficiency.
“We are pleased to initiate this key project,” said Sam Ferrise, Baldwin Filters president. “This expansion will allow us to better serve our customers around the world by adding significant warehousing and shipping capacity.”
“Baldwin continues to grow its market share both domestically and globally. This expansion will enable Baldwin to support its growth objectives,” said Clarcor CEO Chris Conway.

Porvair plc’s Microfiltration division has bought Eisenmann Metallurgical LLC, trading as Chand Eisenmann Metallurgical (CEM), in a deal worth US$5.5 million.
CEM designs and manufactures porous sintered metal products, including specialist filters, at a facility in Caribou, Maine, USA.
Porvair says that there is a good commercial fit between CEM and its existing product portfolio, with clear cross-selling opportunities.
Commenting on the acquisition of CEM, Ben Stocks, Porvair
chief executive, said: “CEM is a highly complementary bolt-on acquisition which broadens our product range, geographic spread and materials expertise. Its staff, based in Caribou, Maine, are skilled and highly experienced and are warmly welcomed to the group. There are many cross-selling opportunities apparent in this transaction and we plan to invest in the Caribou facility over the next 12 months to accommodate the expected growth.”

Groundbreaking for Baldwin's new distribution centre in Kearney, Nebraska, USA.
Petrobras subsidiary PNBV will use UOP Separex membrane systems to process natural gas aboard four floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels in Brazil.
The vessels will process natural gas extracted from Petrobras’s Lula pre-salt oil reserves.
Honeywell’s UOP Separex membrane systems will be
installed on the FPSOs to remove carbon dioxide and water from 7 million standard cubic metres of natural gas per day.
Earlier this year, UOP announced a similar project with Petrobras for eight FPSO units to be operated in Brazil’s Santos basin oil fields.

H2O Innovation Inc has been awarded C$4.7 million in new contracts, bringing the company’s order backlog for water treatment projects to C$17.4 million.
One of the contracts will see H2O Innovation design, assemble, deliver and commission a membrane filtration system, combining the use of ultrafiltration (UF) and ultraviolet, for a community in British Columbia. Once installed later this year, the system will produce 1.1 MGD (4200 m3/d) of drinking water from a surface water source. An end-user in California has also selected H2O Innovation to design, fabricate, assemble and deliver an integrated membrane filtration
system combining UF and reverse osmosis (RO) units. The proposed system will consist of a 0.5 MGD (1900 m3/d) UF unit and a 0.7 MGD (2650 m3/d) RO unit, which will treat concentrate from an electrodialysis reversal system to minimise waste volume for the zero-liquid-discharge facility. A nanofiltration system will be delivered to Florida’s Everglades City to treat brackish water to produce 0.55 MGD (2080 m3/d) of drinking water. H2O Innovation will also supply a 2-train RO system for an industrial water reclamation project in Iowa and a 2-train nanofiltration system for the production of drinking water in Québec.
