Past And Present BAMBOO MASSAGE THERAPY Described as a ‘hot stone massage with attitude’, Bamboo Massage is a new concept in luxurious deep tissue relaxation massage, said to help tensions melt away, boost circulation and aid lymphatic drainage. Our talented young therapist, Martha Harris – always keen to champion the newest treatments – is just one of a small number of therapists qualified to offer this wonderful therapy in the UK and is thought to be amongst the first practicing in Herefordshire. We are delighted to bring this new therapy to our clients at Aroha – Health & Beauty. Despite being a relatively new massage technique in the Western World, Bamboo Massage has ancient roots and deeper associations than simply bodywork. Originating in South East Asia, bamboo has been used for centuries in festivals, rituals, and myths symbolizing life energy, prosperity, strength, longevity, fertility and peace. In addition to its strong spiritual links, Bamboo has many practical uses too; people of ancient cultures used it to kindle fires, carry water to irrigate fields and act as guttering on buildings. It has been fashioned to make surgical tools, utensils, musical instruments, flooring, furniture, ornaments, toys and fishing poles to name but a few. Bamboo has played a vital role in the development of many cultures and civilizations and has proven to not only be a versatile, strong and very beautiful product, but one which is environmentally sustainable too and as a result continues to be used and appreciated to this day, world wide. Bamboo Massage is a technique that uses bamboo stalks of varying lengths and diameters, adapting them as an extension of the therapists hands, forearms and elbows, enabling them to work deeper and more effectively in to the muscle tissues. The massage itself promotes circulation, sensory nerve perception, and lymphatic drainage, and provides a deep sense of relaxation and well-being, working to balance, calm and rejuvenate the mind, body and soul. It can be used as a powerful preventative therapy against modern day stress and emotional problems and can ease and more importantly, help to prevent many physical injuries making it a perfect option for active/sports men and women.

Past And Present

BAMBOO MASSAGE THERAPY Described as a ‘hot stone massage with attitude’, Bamboo Massage is a new concept in luxurious deep tissue relaxation massage, said to help tensions melt away, boost circulation and aid lymphatic drainage.

It can be used as a powerful preventative therapy against modern day

stress and emotional problems and can ease and more importantly, help to prevent many physical injuries making it a perfect option for active/sports men and women.

Needless to say, as soon as Martha was qualified and confident with her technique, I required very little encouragement to try out this sensational new treatment in our therapy rooms at Aroha – Health & Beauty. I was slightly concerned the massage would be a little too ‘intense’ for my liking; I LOVE having the knots firmly kneaded in my back and shoulders, but definitely I prefer the lighter touch on my legs and calves. Martha assured me there was a ‘deep or dreamy’ option when it came to pressure, so of course I plumped for a perfect combination of the two!

The custom-made bamboo tools had been coated with silky carrier oils and nourishing creams to ensure that they glide over the body smoothly, and would be used to ‘melt’ and ‘roll out’ tight muscles. Martha’s skillful manipulation of the Bamboo Sticks, using long, fluid strokes with varying levels of pressure to knead, roll and stretch the muscle fascia in all directions

meant that I was soon in massage heaven! Shorter pieces of bamboo were used to work more specifically in smaller areas, such as under the scapula and along the length of my neck. By the end of the treatment I felt so completely relaxed that I could have quite easily spent the entire night snoozing on the therapy couch. This was truly one of the most relaxing and effective massages I have ever experienced and I simply can’t recommend it highly enough.

A Bamboo Massage with therapist Martha Harris costs £28.50 for a 45 minute Back, Neck and Shoulders

Treatment or £45.00 for a 70 minute Full Body Treatment.
