BAMBOO CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP KARYASHALA-studio, workshop, lab and MAGRAS are conducting " Bamboo - as a structure member" workshop on July 2012-- an unique programme intended for the students pursuing B.Architecture. Karyashala -studio, workshop, lab is an architectural firm based in Delhi with sustainable ideas promoting alternative architecture. Ar. Bhaskar Kandpal, principal architect of the firm has done prolific research on Bamboo -as a structural material in architecture and accomplished numerous projects using bamboo as the significant structural member. His team comprises of young architects, believes in the philosophy of sustainability and is coming up with ventures. This workshop is carried forward with the cooperation and support of an NGO named MAGRAS. MAGRAS- MAWRA GRAM SANSTHA---- This workshop is being conducted to spread the technology of working with 'Bamboo' among the students and villagers. This endeavor is to impart construction skills to the local people and make them self sufficient and independent. Objectives of the workshop: • To learn the techniques of building construction using bamboo as the principal structure member. • To acknowledge the villagers to use bamboo- their natural resource in building their houses • To improve the economy of the villagers. • Make use of easily available local materials and resources. • Provide employment to the local people. Things you may require for the workshop:

1. 2 sets of working clothes.

2. A pair of sport shoes.

3. Notepad and pencils

4. Raincoat and umbrella

5. A good torch

6. Swiss knife (if u have one)

7. Sleeping bag (if u have one)

8. Bed sheet

11. Jacket / warm clothes

To understand the objectives better we have arranged:

Accommodation in the houses of villagers.

Food at the location served and cooked by the villagers.

Social interactive sessions in the evening between students and villagers.

Imparting relative knowledge sessions.

Projection of informative documentaries.

I Mr./Mrs._________________________ parent/guardian of Mast./Miss__________________________ give my consent for his/her participation in the independent Architecture Bamboo workshop in Mawra , Ranikhet , Uttarakhand due from 14 July 2012 till 21 July 2012. I am aware that KARYASHALA -studio,workshop,lab & MAGRAS (Mawra Gram Vikas Sanstha) are conducting this architectural workshop with an objective to study and build BAMBOO STUCTURES in Mawra village near Ranikhet , Uttrakhand . I have read the complete itinerary and I am aware of the activities to be conducted during the tour. I am also aware that the workshop is self financed by the participants and MAGRAS is facilitating the arrangements for accommodation and food and my ward will stay in dormitory provided in Mawra village. KARYASHALA -studio,workshop,lab & MAGRAS shall not be held responsible to be indemnify by me or my family for any untoward incident, natural or unnatural calamity resulting loss of life or personal belonging, during the workshop. My son/daughter/ward shall abide by the directions of the workshop instructors/supervisors and strictly abide by them for his/her safety

and conduct. I understand that if my son/daughter/ward misbehaves or indulges in activities not approved by the instructor during the

tour he/she shall not be permitted to continue further for the workshop and I shall make my arrangements to pick her/him from the

workshop site.
