HOW WE CAME UP WITH THE BAND NAME!

Katrina and I, after some time of researching and coming up with different ideas, from trying on the computer to making spider diagrams, we came up with the name ‘Brittney and the Ladette Generation’ . (Which then we changed to ‘Brittney and the New Generation’- the explanation is below). There are multiple reasons as to why we chose this band name.The first is because we both agreed that we really liked the idea of having a sentence or a phrase for the name, this is because we thought that the target audience could abbreviate it to ‘B.L.G.’We chose to have the name ‘Brittney’ because of the fact that the artist which we took the copy right free track from was called Brittney, we thought it had a connection it made sense to us. The other reason as to why we wanted a phrase or a sentence is because we know a few artists with a phrase as their title/ logo/ name. Two examples are ‘Marina and the Diamonds’ and ‘Florence and the Machine’. The ending of their names, ‘and the Diamonds’ and ‘and the Machine’, are the audience. They did this so that the audience felt special and like part of a group and feel wanted. We also want the audience to feel like part of the band but also, since we had a name ‘Brittney’ we thought that one of the band members could be Brittney but the rest could be ‘and the Ladette Generation’. We wanted the word ‘Ladette’ because we thought ‘Ladette’, in French, meant lady but we realised shortly after that, ‘Ladette’, in English is a completely different meaning to lady so, we changed the word to ‘New’. We decided that the name was going to be ‘Brittney and the New Generation’ because we thought that the word ‘New’ and the word ‘Generation’ worked well together because the meaning is like ‘a breath of fresh air’. We chose the word ‘Generation’ to reinforce the fact that we wanted the audience to feel like part of a group/ to feel unique. The fact that the band is made up of 4 young girls and that the target audience was mainly young girls, gave us the idea that we wanted to have girl power so, that is another reason why we chose ‘New Generation’ to bring all girls together.

This was my first trial at designing on Photoshop the first choice of our band name. I really wanted to make it girly, colourful and eye catching.

I tried a bright and bold font just to experiment.

I got inspiration for my font from Cher Lloyd’s logo. I like it because it’s girly, swirly, sweet and very appropriate for

the kind of music genre we are working with.

I really liked Nicola Roberts name logo so I tried a few experiments to see if they work. I don’t think I will be using these for my band name design because they look too serious and strict.

BRITTNEY AND THE

NEW GENERATION

Although one thing which I really like and that I will be using for my band name design is the fact that for every new cd, album, poster etc….she keeps the font the same but the colour changes. This is really clever because the audience can recognize her logo but she adds a slight variety to adjust with the background so that it pleases the eye.
